Data governance has transformed business glossaries and now drives AI-ready insights
I think it's a great platform. Searching can be made a little better. The data marketplace which it provides is also great, but sometimes when we are searching an element and we know we are not sure if we can find it or if we have missed it. Listing data domains in one place for quick visibility will be an add-on. I am not a hardcore coder. For a coder to create workflows and automate the process, I needed to learn Groovy script and create some workflows. In the automation part, I think it can also introduce a low-code, no-code platform where we can connect different connectors and we can quickly create some automated workflows, if at basic level only, because the next big thing is automation and AI. Low-code, no-code platforms are being used by everyone. I think that will be useful. When I look for a data domain, I'm not able to find it very quickly. For a business owner to know data domains and search data domains, it could be made a little easier. Also, the automation part needs improvement. We are only able to enter the data manually or connect to a data source, but now we want to create some workflows as well. That's why I've chosen a rating of eight. Otherwise, it's really great.

Good integration, simple to maintain, and very stable
Scalability shouldn't be a problem, at least for the size of network team that I work with. Right now we have between 400 and 500 users. This is deployed in a network that is actually about 500 users. We don't plan to increase usage. We're already using it as fully as we can and we don't have any more room. We might look at all the Microsoft programs that relate to office 365, like the ATP, because there is a difference between the ATA and the ATP. We are going to look and see whether there's any gaps that we can close. I think if you compare ATA with the actual ATP it's basically the same functionality. One is more on-premises versus the cloud. Since we are progressively in moving to the cloud, we might look at the ATP, which integrates better with the Microsoft cloud.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The feature I like most in Collibra Governance is the lineage. It lets me do lineage that you can set up, for example, technical lineage and business lineage. The solution lets me associate the right people with the right assets, so anybody who has to look at end-to-end instances can use Collibra Governance and figure it out, in terms of who to contact, what to do, and where to find what you need."
"The solution makes data more discoverable and transparent."
"Except for data quality, everything is perfect."
"Collibra Platform is a wonderful platform that has helped with metadata ingestion in real projects."
"The solution's technical support is helpful and responsive."
"We have found that Collibra Catalog is very easy to use."
"It is user-friendly."
"As far as the functionality of the tool is concerned, it's pretty slick."
"It has also measurably decreased our mean time to detect threats by about 50 percent, and helped increase staff productivity, saving about an hour per day."
"The stability of the solution is very good."
"I like the fact that it looks for some of those very, very obscure techniques and attacks like golden tickets; those are very difficult attacks to spot and with Microsoft ATA I was able to have visibility over those kinds of techniques and attacks."
"One of the most valuable features is the ability to report on questionable activity."
"The solution works well when used with other Microsoft solutions."

Cons

"The license for Collibra Governance is expensive."
"The management of the speed of the tool is not that great."
"It would be better if there was a way to import all data and metadata in an automatic way in one block form."
"The licensing is one area that could get improved."
"More automation and artificial intelligence involvement are necessary. Reducing required employee involvement and enhancing ease of use are vital."
"It should have more integrations with things like CyberArk because its main purpose is GDPR implementation. We have to have more scope for things that implement more privacy. CyberArk makes sure your credentials are vaulted and your things are secure when you're creating your integrations or connecting to an application. I do believe that they are working on this feature."
"Collibra, as far as I know, does not have a connector like Oracle, or a mainframe. It's important to have a connector so that you have access to up-to-date information."
"Collibra Platform could be improved regarding data quality, as the rules cannot be defined as easily as in other tools."
"There are occasions where it generates some false positives and you have to embark into figuring it out. You need to find out if it was a true alert or a false positive. It's a little bit cumbersome in that area."
"It would be ideal if the interface allowed for more granular configurations. For example, if I were to set a rule that is a deviation from the pre-defined rules in the Microsoft product, there's conflict."
"The software is not as advanced as many competitors."
"Some of the newer features are not completely there yet... For example, there's a tool that allows you to grade your overall internal security and I don't feel that it's completely accurate."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Collibra Governance is expensive - I would rate its pricing as one out of five."
"Collibra offers a per-user licensing model."
"Many of our customers I spoke to felt that the solution is a bit highly-priced."
"Collibra Governance is extremely expensive"
"Collibra Governance is an expensive solution."
"We purchase its annual license. There is an extra cost for additional users."
"I think they have a trust issue. I did not like the way they recently went through the process. They were like, "Finish this SOW first, only then will we sign the other SOW." Or, "Finish this code." I didn't like that much."
"I would say it's probably in line with what other vendors charge for licensing."
"I believe we are looking into new licenses. They may be called the E5. Honestly, I don't have it on top of my mind, but I think it's around seven to $10 a user per month."
