Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

Easy to categorize documents and offers transparent view of documents
I found Relativity very useful because it's easy to categorize documents. If you get more complex litigation, like around 500,000 or 1,000,000 documents, it's easier to categorize them in Relativity. So, it's a more powerful tool for reviewing documents. I haven't faced any problems using Relativity yet. I found it very useful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The diversity on offer is very, very good. Everything is supported. It's great."
"A very stable and scalable platform (you can backup/restore/protect a couple of MBs or hundred of TBs as well from the same console/platform)."
"Everything is flexible in the web console."
"It is just about as flexible as you can get; simple. You can put it anywhere you want. You can put it on-prem or in your cloud. I could see where a team that's looking for more of a follow the bouncy ball type of solution might get a little confused. "Oh, no. What do you mean I might have to do it this way or I can't do it that way?" Sometimes, people just want to be told what to do. For an enterprise environment, like we are at NDOT, everything we do is not standard. It is not industry standard; it is not normal. We have all kinds of one-offs. We do need flexibility in the solutions that we get. I will say that Metallic has been extremely flexible in that sense, where we are able to follow the bouncy ball if we wanted to. Obviously, we didn't. We did it our way and Metallic, as a whole solution, provided that to us with no issues."
"The product is user-friendly."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to backup over the dedicated Fiber Channel directly from SAN."
"With Commvault it is a single job, which does both backup and archive, so it does not touch the data twice."
"It's very stable."
"kCura Relativity is easy to use, and it is reliable."
"I like Relativity's blackout feature, as well as the Case Dynamics function."
"kCura Relativity is easy to use, and it is reliable."
"The searching capability of the product is definitely very valuable to our organization."
"There are a lot of ways to QC your work and save your searches, and we had really good case support from the Relativity team."
"The solution has great searching capabilities, and it's very reliable."
"It is easy for a beginner to learn to use Relativity."
"Caplets are a very good technical feature."

Cons

"One issue we face is the complexity of the console. That could be improved on. It takes users time to get familiar with Commvault. On average, it takes our customers between one and three months to learn it. The console and the way you configure Commvault have very advanced settings. It takes time to understand how it works."
"I would like Commvault to have a feature for cybersecurity threats, e.g. securing the target backup repository."
"With so many features, sometimes you cannot find what you are looking for in the interface and you have to dig into books online to find out how to solve an issue."
"The product is a bit complex."
"In an upcoming release, the reports could be better."
"Commvault HyperScale X is more expensive for hybrid environments than traditional solutions."
"The solution is expensive in comparison to similar solutions."
"They don't market their products well. They don't do a lot of marketing to enable them to move forward."
"They require more built-in support for some third-party applications."
"I would definitely not recommended it unless you have someone who has had experience with it and knows how to work the program."
"I think RelativityOne, because it is so powerful, can be very difficult to use and there's a lot that can go wrong if you don't know how to use it."
"What I dislike about Relativity is that we have to go through the host in order to do productions and loads. It is not a do-it-yourself tool."
"I haven't seen anything on AI merging with Relativity."
"You are charged per user. It can get pretty expensive if you have a lot of users in your organization."
"The price per user could be improved. We'd like for it to be more affordable."
"What I dislike about Relativity is that we have to go through the host in order to do productions and loads."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is cheaper than NetBackup, but its price can be lower. If a good solution can be cheaper, it is always an advantage. Its licensing is on a yearly basis."
"The price is not cheap, but when you compare it to the other products they are all almost the same level in terms of price."
"HyperScale X is expensive."
"The pricing is fairly in line with the other products we've compared it with recently. We do spend more on it than we did in our Backup Exec days, but it's fairly competitive with some of the other best-in-class data protection platforms."
"Our yearly cost is around €20,000... The cost is based on the number of users and the amount of data. They sell it per terabyte."
"The price is a little bit high."
"We have checked some other products, but we are not testing them because price-wise, Commvault is better than the other solutions."
"Using a subscription-based license has been advantageous."
"Users are typically charged a fee per user account and a separate fee based on the amount of data processed and hosted."
"They are maintaining the per gigabyte pricing, and it's based on tiers of how much data you host with them."
"It's worth the money."
"The pricing is extremely complicated."
