Centralized metadata has empowered governed data discovery and clarified ownership for all teams
The impact is very positive, and there are many benefits for us using Data Hub because it was easier to make data governance, create centralized metadata management, improve data discoverability, and manage data in general. The areas for improvement, in my opinion, are the initial setup and configuration that can be complex without prior experience, especially in large-scale environments. User experience for non-technical users could be further simplified, particularly around advanced metadata concepts. The out-of-the-box governance workflow, for example, approvals and certification, could be more prescriptive for customers at early maturity stages. Data Hub can be improved in the initial setup and configuration that is somewhat complex, and also in operational monitoring that could benefit from more native dashboards and alerts. However, these are not blockers, but areas where additional guidance or product enhancement would further accelerate adoption.

Handles large data volumes effectively and offers competitive pricing
There is a lot of improvement required, as we still face some cache issues most of the time, which is a challenge that we expect to see resolved in the future. Additionally, there is some limitation when we are working with a tool, especially regarding In and Out parameters, and I feel that this aspect should be improved going ahead. We face issues with the API side, as Cloud Application Integration cannot handle large volumes; according to the API page, there is a limitation of 500 records or 500 MB. The AI integrated into the Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services solution is called Application Integration, where we still face challenges when dealing with huge volumes, as previously explained.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Data Hub has positively impacted our organization by bringing the tribal knowledge that resides with team members into a single place where users can discover and understand the data elements before they make use of it."
"Data Hub proved to be a robust, scalable, enterprise-ready data catalog that is well-suited for AWS-based architecture and complex organizational environments."
"I would definitely recommend Informatica Data Quality to others."
"I was responsible for installing Informatica Cloud Data Quality on Google infrastructure, which was straightforward."
"The tool does give a good ROI."
"The capability of the tool to scan and capture the metadata from a variety of sources is one of the capabilities that I find most useful. The central repository into which it is going to put that captured metadata is the best."
"It's helpful in integration, and it can be moved around in SharePoint. So, from the SharePoint View, data integration and reporting, it help a lot in that way."
"The solution's initial setup is quite straightforward."
"Able to customize data search and data sharing."
"The Mapping Designer allows for declarative ETL development (visual scripting) that leverages a wide array of different transformations."

Cons

"I chose seven out of ten because there are better catalogs available in the market that offer more features."
"The areas for improvement, in my opinion, are the initial setup and configuration that can be complex without prior experience, especially in large-scale environments."
"Informatica's support understands the solution, but they lack the experience we need for our use case. That was one thing that we prioritized when we started searching for this kind of solution."
"The product requires more polishing and hardening."
"There is room for improvement in the support. The response time could be faster."
"The tools required to migrate existing mappings and server rules through cloud data quality are not available."
"Interoperability is one area where EDC has room for improvement. It was challenging when the faculty took over the data world and had specific vendors they wanted to use, and some were not particularly open platforms."
"The cloud version of the Informatica, it's a very substandard product. They might say it's enterprise-ready but it's not at all ready. They need to add more features, such as improved data replication features. If you look at other tools, such as Matillion they are now cloud-native and flexible. Additionally, Informatica Cloud Data Integration should have a good migration strategy from Informatica PowerCenter to Informatica Cloud Data Integration."
"The licenses are too expensive compared to before, which is why customers are now preferring other data metadata management tools like OneTrust, Collibra, and Azure Purview."
"The cost of Informatica MDM is expensive and has room for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"We pay for a yearly subscription."
"You can purchase licenses for this solution at different intervals. For example, annually or every three years. They recently changed their terms for licensing and now it is more flexible."
"The price is very high and has become a big concern for our customers who require the solution in order for their business to function smoothly."
"There is no doubt that it is very expensive, but the brand value comes at a cost. Other MDM solutions in the market that haven't proven themselves like Informatica are also pretty expensive. We need to understand that MDM itself is very expensive to implement. So, Informatica is also pretty expensive. I would rate it a two out of five for being pretty expensive."
"I rate Informatica MDM's price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"The pricing structure is good, but having to pay for extra drivers to be used in an ICS environment makes me a little nervous."
"In terms of the licensing for Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services, we had the option of paying based on the number of users and paying based on the volume of data, and we went with the data volume licensing option. Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services isn't as expensive as CIG. The pricing for it is okay, so I'm rating it a four out of five in terms of pricing. We did use the email verification and address validation services which weren't part of the contract, so we had to pay additional fees for those services."
"Comparatively, their prices are a little bit too high."
