Consolidates tools and streamlines cross-platform database work
There is not a lot that I have to complain about with DbVisualizer. Over the years, as I have mentioned, they have continued to enhance the interface and the databases that are supported, but I do not think there is a lot of room for improvement. Most improvements will come from changes in the marketplace, such as new database features that need to be interacted with or perhaps more support for new data types and databases that are going to be supporting AI. Some of that, as we have seen thus far, is not necessarily the game changer that we would have thought. Integrating a co-pilot for SQL queries would be an interesting feature in the future.

Improves time management by reducing database provisioning time
The feature I appreciate the most in Nutanix Database Service is the Time Machine. The simplicity of the Time Machine feature in Nutanix Database Service and being able to have a point in time that you can go back to at whatever your retention period is, is really great and helpful for us. The Time Machine feature in Nutanix Database Service has definitely reduced turnaround time for when we need clones or other environments spun up off of our existing environment, such as for corruption. It has helped the workload significantly. We're a very small team of database administrators. It worked really effectively for them and helped the workflow much more than our previous solution. Using Nutanix Database Service has reduced the time it takes to provision a database by 75%. The efficiency gained by using Nutanix Database Service has led to a positive impact on our business as far as bringing in new applications and workloads. Being able to clone and spin up other environments off of what we already have in NDB eases turnaround time when requests come in, and we're able to fill them and get them back to the business and make them available to customers. We've been able to automate DBA tasks. It simplifies turnaround time. Our DBA can deploy on how own and no longer waits for requests to be fulfilled.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Actions like exporting grids to Excel or other tools is a very easy task."
"For over 10 years I have been a frequent DbVisualizer user, it is very comfortable and has some features not found in any other SQL tool."
"Timed SQL execution and real-time graphs are the killer features."
"Timed queries that add their result to the result grid for every execution are helpful."
"DbVisualizer is invaluable to me because it allows me to work from enterprise database systems like Oracle to more emerging database providers like CockroachDB, and can scale to anything up or down from SQLite or standard PostgreSQL."
"The Time Machine is the most valuable feature for us. Using it means that we don't have to take regular snapshots, yet we are still able to restore the database quickly in the event of a problem."
"It is also a single platform, all in one place, and that is a reason we went for this solution. Earlier, we had multiple platforms, the database and the OS, but this is a single platform that helps us with what we are doing."
"We use the solution to save costs and simplify operations."
"The provisioning and other features of Nutanix Database Service have improved my company by making it easy to deploy the databases, and DBAs can just deploy what they need as needed instead of having to manually create VMs for them individually and install the databases and setting everything up with DBAs provisioning databases themselves."
"Days have been saved thanks to its provisioning utility."
"The time to provision the database went from taking a couple of days to now taking a few minutes. That is the immediate impact we saw. It helped the team to focus more. They can now be focused on support rather than spending time provisioning, which is a repetitive activity."
"Nutanix Database Service is a scalable solution."
"The benefit I see from the product in terms of its solution is that flexibility regarding where the workload runs is probably the biggest advantage with Nutanix Database Service."

Cons

"One thing I would like to see changed is having the JDBC drivers in a fixed location outside of the application package."
"Sometimes, I feel that the startup time takes a bit more time than needed."
"One of the things that we've discovered specific to SQL is that the deployment options that are available do not match our company standards, so we have asked the Nutanix team if that is something that is customizable or if we need to adjust our deployment strategy. That's the only thing that we've discovered so far."
"The only improvement I would suggest is making the template creation and updating process more straightforward and automated."
"The initial setup was a little tedious and complex."
"We are also overwhelmed with the quality of technical support associated with the product."
"If there were data integration services included with the platform then it would be interesting, and it would help us a lot."
"The only thing which is stopping Nutanix from being a bigger player in the market is the price of the software."
"We faced some performance issues with Nutanix."
"The patching should be a one-button function. Also, it works about 80 percent of the time, but 20 percent of the time it requires manual intervention. And sometimes, until you understand the technical underpinnings of that process, you can't fix it. I thought we would move past that. In the last version, they broke a big chunk of that for me, and that's why I'm waiting for the new release because they promised me it would fix the problem."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"A license with a few years of support is a good and valuable option."
"The pricing for DbVisualizer is fair."
"I wasn't involved much with the pricing and setup costs and licenses. The pricing was as expected."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten."
"The price of the solution is expensive."
"The tool is expensive."
"The pricing is competitive."
"The licensed-based pricing is confusing and too high."
"It's priced fairly... It's a good value. When you go looking for something from Oracle that automates things and makes your life easier, it's always going to be a minimum of $500,000. Era's nothing like that."
"Licensing costs will be the main scalability problem."
