Have supported critical environments despite room for improvement in legacy backup options
It is very efficient in cyber resilience. Deduplication, automation, and everything is very efficient. It is multi-cloud enabled and has broad protections. The software delivers flexible and efficient backup and recovery options through its cyber resiliency features. Dell PowerProtect Manager provides insights in managing backup processes. Its encryption mechanisms are very efficient, helping to secure sensitive data. Its integration with Dell EMC Data Domain is very good. It is easy to integrate with Data Domain. Multi-cloud options are enabled, and backup in cloud options exist in Dell Avamar.

Fast data recovery for large scale datasets
The Infiniguard (dedicated disc storage), offers a petabyte of storage space for on-site disc storage for backups. Because of this, we were able to get rid of our tapes. Essentially, it replaced our tape backups. We're definitely going to be buying another INFINIDAT array. We do have another location that is going to be needing a new array sometime soon, so we'll be buying another one. The beautiful thing about them is that you can set them up to replicate for disaster recovery between the two of them and set up some nice replication jobs, site to site, for automatic database replication.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are talking about a complete end-to-end solution which comes with its own hardware storage to back up the data on tape-less."
"The most valuable feature for me is the backup functionality."
"The most valuable features are scalability and integration."
"For the needs of my organization, EMC Avamar is the preferred option."
"I recommend it to everyone who is searching for any complete backup for an entire infrastructure, for example, for a virtual server, a database server, or a laptop or desktop."
"We used Dell Avamar for backup and recovery of a virtual environment."
"They are extremely reliable and scalable — they provide the best de-duplication on the market."
"Avamar evaluates the data that's already backed up, and only the chain blocks can be transferred via the network, so there won't be any heavy network traffic and the time it takes to backup is quick and within the window."
"Essentially, it replaced our tape backups."
"Overall, this solution has been very cost-effective for us."

Cons

"The recovery is a bit slow."
"Avamar cannot back up Nutanix as a virtual solution."
"The tool's interface is very much in a spreadsheet format...reporting is an area with shortcomings requiring improvement."
"There are limitations when trying to use this solution with Hyper-V."
"I have found the support from Dell EMC Avamar to be not as good as Veeam. The time it takes to receive support could be improved. However, once we have the support the agents are knowledgeable and helpful."
"Avamar's user interface could use some work. When we open a ticket, they are working with Linux commands."
"Desktop-laptop backups and backup over the WAN needs lot of improvisation. For DTLT there must be a provision to push agents from the management console."
"Compared with Cohesity or Rubrik, which have some continuous data protection for backup and replication, this solution tends to lack in this area."
"I would like to see more improvement in the GUI."
"I would like to see more improvement in the GUI; for example, better graphs and statistics so that you have a better vision of what exactly you have stored."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's an expensive tool"
"It was approximately $70-80,000 when it was under support, but right now EMC has not been supporting this product for two years."
"I'm not sure, but perhaps the pricing could be done better at the moment."

"Dell EMC needs to lower Avamar's price and add more features to stay competitive."
"It is easy to use."
