Dell PowerEdge MX-Series and HPE Synergy compete in the high-density server market. Dell PowerEdge MX-Series holds the upper hand in cost-effectiveness and modularity, while HPE Synergy excels in composability and resource management.
Features: Dell PowerEdge MX-Series offers modularity, scalability, and features like vSAN and SmartFabric, allowing for easy integration and superior performance. Its robust modular design supports dynamic upgrades. HPE Synergy stands out with its composable infrastructure, enabling efficient and flexible resource management. It centralizes IT landscapes with HPE OneView, which simplifies management tasks. Synergy's dynamic resource allocation adds value for busy IT environments.
Room for Improvement: Dell PowerEdge MX-Series faces challenges with chip creep, complex BIOS updates, and limited GPU support, affecting AI application suitability. Its technical support can be enhanced. HPE Synergy requires better integration with third-party hardware and a simplified setup process. Users seek improvements in firmware handling and management interfaces. Scaling and user experience also present challenges.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: Dell PowerEdge MX-Series is deployed on-premises, offering straightforward deployment with reliable technical support, though part availability can be an issue. HPE Synergy supports hybrid cloud environments but has a complex deployment process that involves firmware alignment. Dell's support is often seen as more accessible compared to HPE's, which may face integration challenges.
Pricing and ROI: Dell PowerEdge MX-Series is competitively priced, offering good value with modularity providing a compelling ROI. Its cost-effectiveness appeals to clients seeking reliable, affordable solutions. HPE Synergy, being more expensive, justifies its cost with superior integration and features, targeting enterprises with extensive infrastructure needs. Synergy’s pricing can deter smaller enterprises, even with lifetime and subscription options.
Regarding the cost-effectiveness and measurable benefits of Dell PowerEdge MX-Series, I find it worth the money because they are modular and consolidate most things, making it good for future planning.
The servers save around 70 percent of the time for our clients.
It offers long-term high ROI by reducing operational costs and improving business agility.
I would rate customer support on a scale of 1 to 10 as a 10.
They provide excellent help when needed.
Regarding technical support from Dell, I find them to be one of the best support providers in the industry right now.
I would rate the technical support from HPE Synergy, and for all other solutions, as very good and appreciable with a score of nine out of ten on a scale from one to ten.
Dell PowerEdge MX- Series has very high scalability because I just need to add new blades to the chassis that are in operation, which gives us a high level of scalability.
Regarding scalability, I can scale up to 64 enclosures, and each enclosure can hold around 7 blades.
It is very scalable because, as I mentioned, normally we are selecting some series of servers that can be upgraded anytime.
Despite power fluctuations, the server is working fine without motherboard or hardware issues.
I can say that the uptime was more than 99.8%.
Predictive monitoring using iDRAC and OpenManage can detect hardware issues before they become critical outages.
If we can have one or two additional disk support, so that we can have RAID 5 as well managed at the OS layer, that will make the device much more robust.
We can manage all the servers from one GUI.
The main challenges of PowerEdge MX-Series are higher investment and increased architectural complexities, which require greater data center resource requirements.
Currently, it supports only two drives in the blade server, which can be limiting.
Currently, the server price is significantly higher compared to one year ago, with the server price being four times higher.
Total cost of ownership depends on the purchase cost plus deployment cost and other things such as maintenance cost and upgrade cost.
Buying a Dell PowerEdge MX-Series chassis along with its corresponding high-bandwidth fabric switches requires a high upfront capital expenditure.
Pricing in the blade server market is very competitive, with HPE offering a competitive price.
The ease of troubleshooting and managing through remote access, using tools like iDRAC, significantly saves me time.
From the networking perspective, the advanced networking capabilities have excellent features called SmartFabric; for upgrades, it is just plug and play, and SmartFabric takes care of everything.
The most valuable feature is that it does not experience downtime easily.
It offers significant compute power in approximately ten rack units, making it practical for workload optimization.
