Useful for virtualized environment, node management, configuration deployment, and system management with artificial intelligence
I've worked with Dell and had the privilege of working with many OEMs. I started my career as a system engineer, working with HPE as a partner, and then moved to other OEMs like IBM and Lenovo. Currently, I work with a small team. I don't believe any solution is bad. It's just that you might not have identified what the solution is addressing. It's about choosing the right solution for your needs. In terms of hardware or infrastructure, it's an Intel platform. What differentiates everyone is the additional value they can provide. Dell has many values that meet customer needs. I look at the customer's objectives and requirements as an IT professional to find the best solution. I haven't seen any drawbacks regarding the infrastructure deliverables or the value built into the tool. However, Dell as an organization could improve its channel management. For example, we've been trying to resolve an issue with our portal for two weeks. I'd like to see more simplification regarding integration, deployment, and connectivity for future releases. In deployment, I'd like to see simplification in creating VNets and positioning VMware across nodes. I want a template that simplifies the creation of VNets and VMware positioning. I'd push for more simplification and an intuitive graphical GUI that simplifies things with just a click.

Provides excellent internal communication and scalability
Scalability depends on the workload because SuperCluster is available in three models: small, medium, and high-end configurations. The high-end configuration is suitable for very large organizations. However, scalability is limited by the initial configuration. You can upgrade to medium or high configurations if starting with a small configuration. Expanding with a high-end configuration requires adding a new rack or configuring a new SuperCluster instance and integrating it with the existing setup. Approximately three thousand or more users can simultaneously access the SuperCluster.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The stability is good, we haven't had any problems and we're happy with the product."
"With a converged infrastructure, it's easy to troubleshoot from network to server issues from a single point of reference."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the speed."
"Virtual machines for the infrastructure."
"The monitoring and management parts are the most valuable, and monitoring is specifically valuable because you have one console to monitor everything, called Vision."
"Good flexibility and speed."
"There are several valuable features in this product, as it offers flexibility, security, and speed."
"The most valuable features of the solution would be its good default features and the compressions."
"The scalability and the technical support that you get from Oracle are very valuable to us."
"It is easy to integrate Supercluster into IT workflow. It has a forty-gigabit InfiniBand switch. It also includes Exadata and a very powerful M-series machine. These are not mainframe processors but provide excellent internal communication and scalability."
"Unix is not as easy for the users, it needs more maintenance and costs extra."
"Upon migrating to OSC M7, the customer achieved significant performance, reduced cost for licensing and used the Exadata and SuperCluster features."
"The two features that I find to be the most valuable are high availability and high performance."
"In this setup, the traffic is distributed among the nodes, enhancing the overall performance compared to a scenario where all traffic is directed to a single server."
"The promise of consolidation is still a strong selling point, especially if the prospective client has applications that run on SPARC and has its data store in an Oracle Database."
"The performance is significantly improved, and the administration is easy because it is a single platform end-to-end."

Cons

"This solution does not support Hyper-V, and we would like the new version to be supported and certified to work with Hyper-V."
"It is a good product, but for us, it is like a black box. We are not really sure about its internal components, and how to do the terminal upgrade, and how to make sure about the security of the device. We understand how it works, but in order to do the upgrades, we have to get help from the company. We cannot do it ourselves. In another model that we had, the internal team could do the upgrade but not in this one. There is no clear process for a new upgrade or update. They should provide a software intelligence tool that has a dashboard where you can see the current firmware, the latest firmware, and the documentation and the process for the upgrade. For VxBlock, we have different management consoles. There is no single management console that you can use to manage all components inside VxBlock. Their scale up and scale out process is also not clear. Their support is also a little bit slow in responding to the cases."
"It's a good product but the price could be lowered. It's expensive."
"I'd like to see hardware improvement and the ability to support different kinds of mixed applications - a mixed workload support."
"We are finding it a bit challenging in terms of the management of a specific VxBlock component. Currently, we have different units as a part of the block storage. We have one for Cisco equipment and one for Dell. When we have an issue in the infrastructure, Dell EMC VxBlock System should automatically detect it and send a notification to VC support, but, unfortunately, it is doing that only for one unit. It is not working for Cisco components. We have informed them about this area of improvement, and they are working on this. The way different parts are integrated should be improved. We should have one console to log in to see all the infrastructure in terms of each machine and hardware."
"The solution lacks some flexibility with third-party applications."
"Scalability is an area that needs to be improved."
"It is a good product, but for us, it is like a black box. We are not really sure about its internal components, and how to do the terminal upgrade, and how to make sure about the security of the device."
"If you have a need to connect to a lot of stuff, you should perhaps look at other systems as well, not just Oracle SuperCluster, because it's very Oracle focused."
"Unfortunately, I have not had the best experience with Oracle’s SuperCluster. Zones were rebooting at random due to Clusterware bugs, there were various ZFS issues resulting in performance decreases and node evictions and, I’m sad to say, we did not receive the strongest vendor support in resolving the issues."
"A major issue for us is that after the most recent update of SuperCluster, they have now stopped all future production of new versions."
"Oracle SuperCluster M7 is bit expensive."
"There are many areas for improvement. For example, better guidance in terms of troubleshooting issues relating to ZFS, as well as better tools/diagnostics for monitoring that specific component, to better identify potential issues. Hardware monitoring via OEM 13.2 is not 100 percent, as Ops Center is still required in some instances."
"They may have made some improvements but based on the version that I am using, it is a little complicated because it is based on the Unix Operating system."
"The problem with the scalability at this point is that, while it is field upgradable, in order to do a field upgrade at this point in time, the entire SuperCluster has to be rebuilt."
"Oracle SuperCluster M7 is bit expensive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its price is high. That's why people are now moving to hyper-converge."
"Compared to other solutions, Dell VxBlock System is more expensive."
"We purchased this solution with a ten-year manufacturer warranty, and we have a three-year warranty with our local partner."
"For us, the licensing costs are a large amount, but we are also paying for the rack, the SLA, and other extras. When I look into our organization's requirements regarding performance, machine load, etc., I believe that, while expensive, SuperCluster is nevertheless good for us."
"Due to the multiple products involved in our use of SuperCluster (including different software, hardware, etc.), I cannot comment on the licensing aspect."
