Standardized releases have reduced errors and now streamline our cloud resource management
To improve Digital.ai Release, I think the user interface could be improved. For example, I have a plan phase before my build phase, and sometimes the toggle button is hidden. I have to toggle it before the step can be executed, or it will be skipped. Many people who did not use Digital.ai Release before do not even know there is a toggle button, and the first time when they run into that phase, they will definitely skip that step. Regarding needed improvements, I did not do extensive reading on documentation or training material directly from Digital.ai Release. My knowledge comes from the team who has been using it. However, I would appreciate standardized training material that would give me hands-on experience.

Has supported container-based deployments and improved infrastructure visibility through monitoring tools
Aria Operations, formerly known as VMware vRealize Operations, has been renamed to vROps. We are currently using this for monitoring purposes. For orchestration, we are using VCD to automate Telco Cloud. VCD is an automation tool, and we are also using VMware Tanzu Platform for the Kubernetes environment, alongside TKG, Tanzu Kubernetes Grid. These are also other solutions for the Tanzu Kubernetes environment. For Telco Cloud, we are using it to automate our company's operations, which is for a telecom company. We are familiar with these products, especially vCenter, ESXi, VCD, vCF, and vROps. It is very easy to integrate applications when we deploy vCenter and ESXi since we can enable vSphere with Tanzu feature. We can build namespaces and provide application developers the platform to deploy their applications on pods within containerization. We can easily manage, pull results, and create containers efficiently, making it a simple way to handle applications. We provide namespace labels for application developers, and we can manage their resources along with other aspects easily. Regarding security, we use many tools such as CDX and LDAP, AD for integrating our Kubernetes cluster with the developer teams. We can manage roles and permissions simply. It is very straightforward to integrate with EDX and other third-party tools, Active Directory, to the Kubernetes cluster, allowing easy access and management.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of Digital.ai Release is its ability to communicate with various deployment systems, such as XLD and batch deployments, as well as integrate with tools, such as Flyway and Bamboo. We use Bamboo as our build orchestrator, and Digital.ai Release also integrates with Jira, another Atlassian solution. These capabilities make it a powerful tool for managing workflow, test automation, and other processes."
"Overall, I would give Digital.ai Release a rating of nine out of ten; there's always room for improvement, but it's really good."
"Involving both infrastructure and application teams in the same pipeline has genuinely helped my process, as we have one specific person starting the pipeline, another approving it, and another coordinating as DevOps or monitoring all processes from the infrastructure side, providing excellent assistance because we have different and clearly separated responsibilities."
"The orchestration, building the release, and then just executing it and managing that pipeline — the orchestration capabilities are great for that."
"Since using Digital.ai Release, time has been saved, money has been saved, and staffing requirements have been reduced."
"The solution can apply one template across multiple applications."
"Since using Digital.ai Release, one of the benefits is standardizing the way I release to my Azure environment, which in the long term will help me reduce costs and improve efficiency."
"The time is also reduced because the manual work has tremendously decreased. We just have to click one button, and it will create everything for us."
"We feel very good about these features."
"I have multiple Kubernetes environments within my environment, and TMC gives me a single pane view, which is good for managing everything."
"A feature we find valuable is that other products can also be integrated with Mission Control. This means that we can see the status of specific clusters, as well as view the monitoring application logs all from one point."
"It has provided us with one central point where we can easily track our product QA, and our project resources, across multiple projects and multiple business units."
"The multi-tenancy with the VCD is great."
"Tazu is a developer-friendly and highly mature product."
"The most important thing about the solution is its flexibility."
"Defining security metrics has proven beneficial for customers in maintaining a safe environment."

Cons

"Sometimes it can be tedious when fulfilling multiple different packages with their key and value pairs."
"Digital.ai Release could improve by having a better plugin that works with Guardian that we use for mainframe migrations. If there could be an interface or plugin for Guardian that would be beneficial."
"One improvement for Digital.ai Release could be to simplify the user interface for beginners."
"Overall, the price is just too high; especially considering we're in the middle of a pandemic."
"To improve Digital.ai Release, I think the user interface could be improved."
"Currently, we put artifact details manually. What we could improve, in our case, is the deployment instruction base. Developers input all the information, including which artifact and where it needs to be deployed. What Digital.ai could do is automatically go to the deployment instruction page, take those artifact details, and implement them."
"I would like to improve Digital.ai Release by exploring its cloud capabilities as we are currently in the middle of migrating to the cloud, but I actually have no idea what Digital.ai's cloud capabilities are."
"The solution is a little bit expensive."
"It is not easy to build a solution with containers. It has a graphical user interface, but you need to have a lot of knowledge of Linux and how to work in the command mode. Its support can also be improved. Currently, its biggest disadvantage is that it is a new product, and the clients prefer to go for a solution that has been in the market for a long time. There are not that many people who know this product."
"Tanzu is not yet a mature product, and it's not present in large environments."
"The infrastructure is quite challenging."
"This product doesn't have a GUI. In order to use it properly, I need to connect it to a new GUI or build a GUI to manage it — it's pretty difficult."
"Customers have noticed a considerable price increase after VMware's acquisition by Broadcom."
"Tanzu could provide more granular control over whatever networking is being done on the containers."
"The solution is currently focused on VMware infrastructure and I would like to see more options made available."
"The disaster recovery feature could be improved to provide better tracking of issues. I would also like to see the introduction of a dashboard view, for even further integration of all the areas that Mission Control looks at."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution's license includes all features."
"Overall, the price is just too high; especially considering we're in the middle of a pandemic."
"The least expensive licensing cost for VMware is around $350 per core."
"The price of VMware Tanzu Mission Control is greater than that of Red Hat's competitor solution"
"Its pricing is very competitive. We get around 70% or 75%, sometimes even 80%, discount on the product. I would rate it a four out of five in terms of pricing."
"There are different licenses available. You have to upgrade your license if you want to scale the solution more."
"The solution is bundled in with Cloud Foundry so the pricing is not independent."
"The license for VMware Tanzu Application Service is expensive. The license should be cheaper."
"The licensing cost is expensive."
"The product is not expensive, but it is not cheap."
