Review summaries and opinions

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

ROI

Sentiment score
6.1
Domo's impact varies widely; some report negative returns, while others achieve over 300% ROI through improved efficiency and decision-making.
Sentiment score
7.0
Tableau Enterprise delivers rapid returns through efficiency, cost reduction, quick insights, and enhanced decision-making within six to twelve months.
This saves a significant amount of time, particularly for reports that would have needed around fifty people.
The ROI of using Tableau extends to its seamless integration across various platforms, as it's from Salesforce and thus not limited to any specific cloud provider.
Tableau is saving me time, money, and resources, which I would rate as ten.

Customer Service

Sentiment score
6.9
Domo's customer and technical support is generally responsive but inconsistent, with room for improvement, especially for smaller clients.
Sentiment score
6.1
Tableau Enterprise support is praised for professionalism and multilingual assistance but needs improvement in response times and technical expertise.
They were quite professional and in around three to five working days, they had identified where they suspected there was an issue and I was able to fix it.
It's very easy to get technical support from Domo.
Support-wise, they are good.
They provide quick email and phone responses and have Thai-speaking personnel.
There should be consistent standards for all users.
The technical support for Tableau is quite good.

Scalability Issues

Sentiment score
6.4
Domo supports scalable growth and user expansion, despite challenges with large files and some performance issues at high volumes.
Sentiment score
6.7
Tableau Enterprise's scalability varies, effective with design and configuration, but big data performance concerns and costs remain.
The fact that you're able to easily identify the pipelines or flows that have errors, and it notifies you when you're building a pipeline where you can run previews and tell where to fix issues, is helpful.
When fetching files larger than 100 MB from SFTP or any other portal, Domo becomes slow due to the heavy file size.
Sigma, which is written for Snowflake, scales more easily than Domo.
Tableau is easy to use across various dimensions, whether on-premises or on the cloud.
The solution is fully scalable and performs well even with large datasets, provided there is proper supporting hardware.
Tableau is easy to scale.

Stability Issues

Sentiment score
7.1
Domo is reliable with 99% uptime; issues usually arise from external factors, not from Domo itself.
Sentiment score
7.4
Tableau Enterprise is generally stable and reliable, with occasional issues mainly related to large datasets or server configurations.
In recent years, I haven't had such cases. It's quite stable and I don't have any reservations on its stability.
In terms of overall stability of the platform, it's very stable.
During that time, we faced issues from the project side as Domo was not visible in our portal.
The application hangs after continuous use due to the buildup of cache.
I rate the stability a five or six because Tableau updates very often with new versions or patches.

Room For Improvement

Domo needs improved usability, integration, and support, along with intuitive interfaces, flexible pricing, and advanced features for better user experience.
Tableau Enterprise users seek better data integration, improved performance, cost-effective pricing, and enhanced analytics and collaboration features.
End users require a license to run their own reports and dashboards, which are fairly expensive.
Some technical aspects such as Beast Mode calculation could be improved in Domo, as it would provide more clarity and help in giving insights to clients or customer business team requirements.
One of the areas where we've had frustrations with Domo is the aesthetics. The aesthetics are quite limited compared to other BI tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
We cannot send the entire Excel file reports via email within Tableau.
The product owner should enhance its benefits or clarify its role.
It sometimes requires extensive investigation to determine why the data does not appear correctly.

Setup Cost

Domo offers costly but comprehensive BI solutions with flexible pricing, valued for integrating multiple functions without extra infrastructure.
Tableau's pricing is high yet competitive, with increased costs for added features, posing challenges for small organizations.
Domo's pricing is high compared to other BI tools, and it is costly.
For long-time users, it can become expensive, but the trade-off is access to the entire platform instead of licensing different components separately.
They quoted approximately one dollar per KB.
Power BI as a much cheaper alternative.
A license for 150 users costs around $17,000 USD per year.
Looker is known to be quite expensive.

Valuable Features

Domo offers user-friendly tools for data transformation, visualization, and analytics, supporting scalability and diverse data source integration.
Tableau Enterprise excels in data integration, visualization, and analytics, offering customization, real-time processing, and advanced capabilities for decision-making.
App Studio is valuable because it allows all the customization we needed; we can decode it, with the view and grid which are all I need, drill-downs, and everything can be done the way I need it.
I have been using it for four years and have been able to extract the information I need from it.
The most valuable feature of Domo is the fact that you can connect multiple inputs and you don't have to have a data warehouse.
A significant feature for me is the real-time connection to data sources because it effectively manages large data sets.
Tableau serves as a stable dashboarding tool for higher management, aiding in quick decision-making.
Building hyper extracts and visualization capabilities make Tableau a robust tool for data analysis.

Has enabled me to integrate AI workflows and drive self-service analytics across organizations
There's room for improvement in their focus on enterprise clients. As a small business owner, there's nothing as powerful as Domo available for smaller organizations. I understand it's a business focus for them as they're looking to expand in that direction, but there's an opportunity to capture the SMB market by creating more capabilities. It's not necessarily about technical capabilities, but rather pricing that's geared towards the small business market. Capability-wise, it's very robust. If I had to stretch, I would suggest more integrations to other common tools, such as Zapier and operational tools like Mailchimp, where you can build and extend ETL in a no-code environment. While there are capabilities you can build from Domo's open APIs, having more native integrations in a no-code, low-code environment would be beneficial. Domo has many native integrations, but better tools for the SMB operational pipeline would be valuable.

Ease of developing dashboards and receiving strong technical support have enabled efficient data visualization
Introducing custom features, such as NLP-based reports, is not very good in Tableau. My MD has been asking us for a way to write in natural language to request reports that the system should generate, but that isn't very effective with Tableau. As a developer, I can develop an on-demand report in Python quite easily, but exposing a REST API on the Tableau platform is not a very easy task. AI enablement is an area for improvement for Tableau, and that is something they might have to work upon. I have heard that ThoughtSpot is quite better in this regard, but the cost of ThoughtSpot is much higher. ThoughtSpot has lots of natural language-based report generation features that Tableau lacks.

I  think you should first decide which budget you can allocate for it.You can find "free' tools like Google Looker Studio, which have limited reporting and email capabilities. I assume other cloud vendors have similar "free" tools.Other reporting tools can cost from 10's $ per user per month to 100K$ for a year and more. There is also an open-source tool named Superset
