The vertical database loads faster than any other product available
We experience disconnections between the solutions own components. In the last five years, there have been many intermittent connection issues with the four components and we still don't know the reasons. The solution has issues when loading groups that have been created in the application interfaces. It would be nice to have a mobile application. In the current industry and technical word, the mobile phone is the only thing that is always in your hands. Other Broadcom products have mobile applications but the solution doesn't offer one. It would be great to view device parameters and view or download graphs from a mobile device.

Gives an overview of the entire infrastructure and helps with the optimization and capacity planning
It is not very easy, but it is also not very complex. You need good technical expertise to understand how to work with the product. The deployment duration depends on the scope of work. It depends on how much integration you need. This product can integrate with many other applications. It depends on whether you want to integrate or whether you want a standalone system. It depends on how many different systems you need to capture the data from. Do you want to integrate with a reporting product? Depending upon that, you have to decide. The product installation takes one or two days, but you need to define a use case for what you want to do after the installation.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The ability to very quickly and graphically navigate around, being able to zoom in to a timeframe, apply it to all the other panels... are all very intuitive."
"What is most useful is visibility."
"Scalability is the reason we bought the product to begin with. It was designed from the ground up for carrier-grade services, and we are in effect a MSP ourselves. So we were really interested in looking at something to be able to handle the multi-tenancy and scale as large as possible. This was the only solution that we really considered at that level."
"Since the implementation of the tool, it has cut down on probably 60% of our outages and letting us know what is going on."
"It is the gathering of the whole performance data in our environment and our network environment, for us and our customers."
"The solution's performance itself is very good because it is a vertical database that loads very fast in comparison to other products."
"We have been able to get a little bit better at seeing more things in real time and more just in time, so we're less reactionary."
"My sales representative, I would not trade him in for the world. He has done a really good job. I am really happy with him."
"Easy access to resources of our cloud."
"It helps to plan how you can scale up your environment, and it gives an overview of your entire infra."

Cons

"Since we are out of registered IP space, we are moving to ipv6 and we expect our vendors to move with us, and they have not delivered yet."
"Policies could be improved."
"Install is done as root, which is a security no-no, and the database IO requirements were not stated correctly, which lead to a year of instability."
"Spectrum's topology view sometimes does not rebuild automatically when a device is shut down and reconnected. It requires manual discovery and rebuilding of the topology, which I hope can be improved."
"This may be available by now but for server space, when it comes to the disk file system, I'd like to see that graphically represented, or the trend, rather than what I'm seeing now."
"Even though we can see when something is not available, it would also be it would be nice if some sort of alerting took place to that you could know immediately if something went down."
"This tool gathers so much data, which makes it hard to convert over. To upgrade it, you really need the solution backed up. That is the issue that we are facing right now."
"For CA PM, there should be a way of easily migrating the reports coming from eHealth going to CA Performance Center, since CA PC is replacing eHealth."
"It should have more reporting features. It will help in getting more reporting information."
"It needs to improve the capacity planning."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Do your homework and know how many devices you will be managing out of the gate. Be sure to project what your growth will be each year."
"The tool's pricing is based on the number of network devices."
"They should provide more scalable licensing for the product."
"We purchase a license to use the solution every three years and we have multiple contracts. They have been increasing the price annually. We have a baseline for three years and then we need to pay the difference from the baseline, and we are in the process of negotiating a new price for all the licenses we need. The price overall is affordable."
"We were looking at other vendors in the marketplace for NetFlow, and CA just beat everybody else in price, cost, and the size to implement. "
"I like the licensing model because it's device-based."
"It depends on the agreement that you have with Micro Focus. It can be a year-based term. It can be perpetual, or it can be subscription-based. Depending upon whether you're looking for an annual or a multi-year contract, the pricing would vary. It also depends on whether you are looking for standard support or premium support."
