Provides a comprehensive view by integrating with other monitoring systems
There may be an issue since there are many tools like Splunk involved in network monitoring. From an IP perspective, Dynatrace is performing well. If they want to develop in network monitoring, they can, as it's part of their product line. It's not rocketry, so they can accomplish it. If I, as an SI, look at it from an enterprise perspective, considering the cost from the client, I prefer not to go with multiple systems, as they don't provide a complete 360-degree view. They need to improve on claims about being an enterprise system. The definition of enterprise is loosely used, however, from a holistic security perspective, including infrastructure, network, ports, software, applications, transactions, and databases, there are areas lacking, especially in network monitoring tools.

I use JenniferSoft to monitor the performance and transaction traces of our applications The most valuable feature of the solution is the ability to divide the authorization of users because a lot of the people in our organization have different authorizations. The dashboard is a valuable…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"You can see every step a transaction goes through, which servers it hits, and what technology it uses."
"We are able to fix issues rather quickly, by identifying then fixing them. Therefore, the efficiency of the organization has improved. We are spending less time fixing issues."
"Reduced incidents, as alert monitoring aids in quicker resolution of events."
"We setup triggers for certain critical events. When these events happen, alert notifications are sent to the support team to take immediate action."
"Integration within the CI/CD pipeline helps avoid problems in production by detecting application faults upfront."
"It has more functionality, better additional components, and better management of problems. It also has a good AI."
"We were quite happy with the easy installation process and how quickly we received a good overview over all of our web applications."
"We have used Dynatrace in our performance testing environments to get ahead of issues before they make it into production."
"The dashboard is a valuable feature."

Cons

"Because we are financial, there are certain things that we cannot put on the cloud. However, that is a given fact, not only for us. It is a given fact for any financial company because of PCI compliance. Because of PCI compliance, companies don't take the risk of putting data in the cloud."
"Dynatrace must reduce the required resources for on-premise, because they are too high."
"It would be nice if there were a way that it could be made simpler, given the complexity of the things that we're monitoring."
"Session export for offline analysis, like it was in AppMon, would be also nice."
"We'd like it to be more user-friendly, which, in our case, might be a big ask as we have a fairly complex environment."
"Cloud monitoring is insufficient. We would prefer Dynatrace to make more partnerships with major cloud applications like Salesforce, C4C, etc."
"Some of the analytics that you get in, e.g., a waterfall analysis of a web page could be clearer. A lot of that is not directly attributable to Dynatrace. Sometimes a vendor will implement a tag or JavaScript plugin that's named something entirely different than what it does. This makes it difficult to track that from the waterfall list, figure out where exactly that component is, and dig more into what it's doing. Dynatrace could probably improve a bit on that waterfall layout to make it clearer as to what exactly is there. It does a wonderful job of telling you what loads and when, but it could be improved in terms of telling me what exactly it is loading."
"Its needs to focus more on open source areas, like Apache umbrella products and availability motioning areas."
"The solution is pricy and has room for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing and licensing are very expensive."
"The solution has saved us money through the consolidation of tools. With a hybrid landscape, we had multiple tools. When we consolidated, we removed four or five other monitoring tools with one. For the last ROI calculation that I did, Dynatrace was saving us up to $500,000 per year."
"Surprisingly, it is quite expensive. That is something that we could always see: Improved pricing and the overall construct on how do we use each license in regards to usage of the tool."
"Licensing is very interesting, as you pay only for what is being monitored. A lot of things are given away for no additional cost. If you have a great IT consolidation, it will be pretty cheap. If you have a lot of servers, it will be heavier."
"It is quite costly. Dynatrace was the most expensive, compared to the other products we looked at. But it was also a lot better. If you want value for your money, Dynatrace is the way to go."
"I have not been able to observe more than 1% overhead, despite Dynatrace saying that it can be slightly higher in some situations."
"Licensing is a bit complicated for Dynatrace, and pricing is dependent on how much your organization invests."
"The cost is somewhat high."
