AI-driven insights have reduced downtime and improved cross-team collaboration
We encountered some challenges while using Dynatrace. Although the initial setup was smooth, fine-tuning alert thresholds and custom metrics took some time. Another challenge was that Dynatrace charges based on host units, so we had to carefully plan our agent deployments. The licensing model is expensive. Additionally, the complexity of setup is an issue. While OneAgent and auto-discover services are powerful, the setup is more complex compared to other tools such as Prometheus and Grafana. These integrations are simple and basic, but Dynatrace setup requires more complexity based on the environment. For new users wanting to use Dynatrace, it is difficult. However, the AI-related solutions and metrics took us to the next level for identifying and fixing things. Dynatrace requires an agent for operation. OneAgent is powerful, but it is also resource-heavy. On lightweight nodes or older systems, the agent can slightly impact performance. If Dynatrace could implement a lightweight agent behavior, we could make things faster. Additionally, if Dynatrace could add a long-term retention policy so that we could store more data and find fine-grained details, that would help us. While Dynatrace managed edition supports on-premises deployment, the SaaS version depends on cloud connectivity. For highly regulated or air-gapped environments, setup and updates can be challenging. Although the initial setup is smooth, if someone wants to fine-tune it and fully understand the tool end-to-end, it could be tricky.

Managing application health has become simpler but new monitoring features still need faster delivery
I use application discovery and dependency mapping. It helps with managing application health What I like about ManageEngine Applications Manager is the ease of use and ease of deployment. I cannot remember anything specific for future updates of the product. The new features take a lot of time…

Pros

"It has enabled us to have a deeper insight into our application availability and performance."
"When I first started, it was about five years ago, I don't really recall what was being done for application performance monitoring, but about three or four years ago they put Dynatrace into place, and I know it's provided a lot of insight, especially when we had production outages, to troubleshoot and quickly identify the problem."
"Dynatrace has contributed to significant improvements such as reducing P1 tickets resolution time from four hours to under one hour and drastically cutting alert volumes from between two hundred to four hundred alerts per week down to approximately sixty to one hundred twenty."
"It is very stable. The improvements that they keep making just make the tool more useful."
"The most valuable feature is the workflow, which helps you to easily have an overview of the infrastructure that you are analyzing, without having worked with it previously."
"The solution's most valuable features are AI and root cause analysis."
"Through Dynatrace feedback, we were able to figure out bottlenecks, plan performance user stories, optimize execution time, and make numerous corrections."
"It has helped us to deliver the numbers the moment it counts, and today every digital moment and every touch point is vital to your business Revenue, loyalty and brand image hinge on application performance and Dynatrace gives you the application insights you need to achieve digital success."
"I found Application Manager better than other products, including Solarwinds, because there are so manys option in Application Manager that makes it unique, such as supporting all servers, networks, cloud systems etc."
"I am impressed with the tool's reporting feature which is simple."
"The initial setup was straightforward, without complexity."
"ManageEngine Applications Manager maintains the historical data and it's easy for us to analyze the trends and patterns and fix them accordingly."

"We do not have pricing constraints as an organization, because we do have reservations about ManageEngine being functionally scalable."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is its ease of use."

Cons

"Setting up the thresholds and alerting, it is complicated to understand their use cases."
"There is still a certain amount of technical skills needed to be able to understand what you are seeing on it, and you also need a large amount of technical or infrastructure skills to understand how and where to install it."
"For AppMon, in order to use the rich client especially, I think you have to be somebody who is in there more often than not. It's not necessarily as intuitive as it could be."
"There was complexity to AppMon and getting everything set, but more specifically getting the dashboard setup."
"Mainly navigation needs improvement. It is easier to follow a flow. Following the flow of the admin now is not easy."
"The tool needs work on the performance monitoring part, as it is not providing specific details due to some issues in agent connectivity."
"The thing that is preventing us from moving forward with Dynatrace right now is that we can't tag our customer traffic with a customizable tag."
"I think they're working on even more integration from external third party input, but that is ongoing. So the faster it's there the better. Clock monitoring is one of these areas where improvements can be made."
"I would say that the implementation of ManageEngine Applications Manager is too detailed. You need some training to effectually use it."
"It can’t be configured to store APM Insight data for more than one month."
"More modem support for SMS feature."
"The integration process with third party tools poses some challenges; enhancing the robustness of these integrations could greatly improve overall functionality and user experience."
"My suggestion for improving this feature is to also monitor the end-user experience for application clients and servers."
"I assess the impact of real-user monitoring of this product on my application's performance as not good. I am not satisfied with monitoring."
"The dashboards in the interface need a lot of work."
"They could probably rearrange the UI so that it would be easy for people who are new to the Application Manager to configure things."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would like to see them improve on their licensing and the cost. It's been a challenge for us because the way they have it broken out right now, you have to buy it by units. It's hard for us to know where to put those units because our company is broken up into all these different business units, so it's been challenging in that sense. I just would like to see them improve that model a little bit."
"The limitations I see are more to do - and maybe it's because of the nature of the job I have - but they have to do with pricing. It's a little bit pricey. It's a very good tool. It's worth the price, to a certain degree. But it's hard to justify when it's that costly."
"We license it for two environments, typically all of production and all of one lower environment, usually our staging environment. If there is a downside to Dynatrace, the only thing I can think of would be the cost. If it were cheaper, I'd have it in all my environments. I don't think they're charging more than it's worth, by any means. It's just that good software costs money."
"Product pricing can seem a little over complex, however this is minor and does not detract from the benefits of the solution."
"The price range is quite high."
"Dynatrace has a place for everybody. How you use it and what your budgetary limitations are will dictate what you do with it. But it's within everybody's reach. If you're a small organization and you have a large infrastructure, you may not be able to monitor the whole thing. You may have to pick and choose what you want to monitor, and you have the ability to do so. Your available funds are going to dictate that."
"I feel the price is good for what the product does."
"The price could be improved."
"ManageEngine Applications Manager has reasonable pricing. It's more affordable than other solutions in the market. My company has an instance-based license for ManageEngine Applications Manager. You can purchase a yearly subscription or a perpetual license. The standard license covers most features, but you can still have some paid add-ons."
"The cost of this solution is not too bad, although it could be cheaper considering what you're getting for the price."
"It is a cost-effective solution."
"Price-wise, it is a cheap tool...The solution's licensing model is subscription-based, in which yearly payments are to be made."
"The annual licensing depends on the number of monitors you have connected. Once you get to two hundred monitors you can see the price reflect."
"Its price is good."
"The licensing costs for ManageEngine Applications Manager are around $1,200 per year. For additional monitors, you have to pay extra."
"The solution's licensing costs are yearly."
