Fast, reliable, and rock solid
The solution is intended as the backend for our reporting solution MicroStrategy. It's also used for ad-hoc analysis or to fuel other tools with data as it's the only place where some of the data points are available within an acceptable SLO We used it to decouple ETL and reporting databases. The…

Offers robust security and availability with impressive replication capabilities
Regarding their documentation and interface, there is room for improvement. Documentation is definitely required when running multiple databases on a cluster system. The load balancer, MySQL LB, which is used to connect to the application, lacks clear documentation. When there are multiple application servers connecting to the MySQL cluster and going through the MySQL load balancer, the documentation is not user-friendly. It's there, but only technical persons with deep knowledge of the MySQL database can implement it. Most of the community users or ISVs who use MySQL don't have many technical persons or DBA experts, so they face some challenges for the high availability of connecting high available databases from high available applications. That documentation should be simplified.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The speed is very good compared to other databases, like SQL Server or Oracle."
"We can quickly scale the solution as it works on an MPP system."
"The most valuable feature of Exasol is its speed."
"Its speed is great."
"It is easy to scale."
"The solution is hands-off; you set it up insert your data and it self tunes queries."
"We mainly chose Exasol for its performance reasons."
"This solution is extremely fast and very stable; you set it up and put your data on it and as long as it's structured, it self-tunes queries and doesn't require a database administrator."
"I am totally satisfied with MySQL."
"The most valuable feature is the on-premises data encryption facilities."
"I would recommend the solution to those interested in using the free, stable version of the solution which incurs no licensing costs."
"ACID attributes are the most valuable feature, as data reliability is a top concern."
"The initial setup was easy. I work in an agile way, which means coding and deploying quickly."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is its ubiquity. MySQL is everywhere, so if I need to find a developer to do things to it that I don't know, it's very easy to find someone who has expertise in it."
"Reliability Security Flexibility Functionality Availability - controllability anywhere and with different methods"
"MySQL is open-source. There are a lot of open-source communities trying to come up with their own patches, and to come up with their own features, which help MySQL develop faster than traditional databases like Oracle, which is closed source."

Cons

"The only area where we found it could improve was in custom role creation and security, and it was difficult to work with."
"Lacks a cloud-based platform."
"There are limited resources available to help me resolve the issue with Exasol."
"You have to install Exasol drivers, and it's not easy to find or implement a driver into different systems."
"It would be beneficial if the updates would occur more often."
"It's not cloud-native so many maintenance operations require downtime."
"The price is quite expensive relative to other similar solutions, it could be more accessible in that sense."
"They should improve the security features for MPP processing."
"There should be more tools to manage the on-premises version and more automation features."
"While utilizing a comparable algorithm, is noted to be sensitive, especially when configuring the inner device."
"We have encountered some performance issues, and the solution takes time for performing complex queries."
"It would be helpful if there were a graphical user interface to administer, configure, and tune it."
"The performance issues in the product can be considered as an area where improvements are required."
"Security is a concern. MySQL could have better security features."
"The solution could be more secure."
"It does not stand out regarding scalability. When the company size increases, the user base having actual experience with (very) large MySQL solutions is reduced."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution's cost is mid-ranged."
"There is no licensing fee."
"We are using the free community version of the solution."
"I use a free version at present."
