An open-source database to hold customer data, but its performance should be improved
Firebird SQL significantly improved our data management in many parts of our self-developed ERP system. I rate the solution's performance and speed a six out of ten. Two or three database administrators are needed to maintain the solution. A few years ago, migrating data to or from Firebird SQL was a little bit difficult because the identifier names for tables or stored procedures were limited to 20 to 30 characters. Transferring the structure to Firebird SQL was difficult, but they fixed it in version 3, which was much easier. We are developing software with Delphi, and Delphi is also by Embarcadero. Using InterBase or Firebird SQL databases is very common, and you have some good tools for developing with Firebird SQL. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Offers reliable engine for legacy needs but requires enhanced cost management and AI features
While MongoDB is a good product, it is also an expensive product for support, and its scalability is acceptable, but the big problem with MongoDB is the cost. For security in MongoDB, we work with encrypted databases by default, but we have not contracted the security options in our contract because it is too expensive, so we only implement encrypted databases without the security pack, which is very expensive for us; in security, we are at the first steps, just using encrypted databases. I think additional features needed in MongoDB include perhaps vector databases, as I think they are not supported right now.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product was easy to use."
"I appreciate the fact that, once the database is embedded, it doesn't need to be administered, and removes the requirement for a specific server."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is that it is reliable, offers good performance, and is easy to use."
"The reliability and ease of management are very valuable."
"It helps us in detecting all kinds of problems in the code, such as bad quality, unclear code, or any violation in the code or best practices."
"Robustness is the absolutely main feature."
"The solution is very useful for stock management."
"I can deploy it on Linux, Mac OS, and Windows — it's very easy."
"One of the most valuable features of MongoDB is it is Its open source."
"The initial setup isn't really that complex."
"The aggregation framework is very powerful when elaborating on data."
"like its performance and the stability. It's very stable and, performance-wise, it's really great."
"The aggregation framework is really good, allowing a developer to build very complex queries."
"I value the API integrations."
"It is easy to use."
"It is very easy to create a MongoDB cluster. You can deploy three nodes in one hour. You can do small configurations to enable routing. It is easy to implement."

Cons

"We would like to improve the management of very large databases."
"Database sharing is a capability that Firebird SQL lacks."
"Firebird SQL's performance has slowed since Firebird SQL 3 or 3.5 versions, where they developed over-the-wire encryption."
"Technical support and performance could be better. We have some problems with this solution, but we don't know if the problem is with the database or the configuration. For example, sometimes, the users can't access the database."
"It would be nice to have a graphical user interface to handle the product."
"The security of the users could improve in Firebird SQL."
"The solution could improve by providing partitioning and encryption. It is not at the higher level of database solution but it could be with some upgrades."
"On large databases, we have some difficulties."
"MongoDB is a very useful and convenient choice, but sometimes for more complex projects, there are certain niche requirements that appear, so using a different tool could be beneficial. It raises the complexity of the architecture, but it could be beneficial to the world, the features, the ease of the features which are being implemented."
"I think that MongoDB's search engine should be improved."
"The solution can be a bit tough to set up if you don't have knowledge about how the database works."
"Sometimes, the tool goes down temporarily. There are some stability issues in the product."
"The solution could have more integration."
"MongoDB should be more stable, and support should be more efficient."
"More stable indexes would be helpful in a future release. That's been an issue for some time. I don't know if it's been fixed now but we transitioned to it because we needed a search index to be able to search for things and if that goes or starts disappearing, we have to move away from that solution. I don't know if they fixed it, last time I had this issue was three years ago so they might have solved it."
"A normal Oracle or database tester will take some time to gear up to MongoDB because the way of writing queries is different in MongoDB. There should be some kind of midway where a person who is coming from an Oracle background can write a query and get a response by using something like a select * statement or other such things. There should be some way for MongoDB to interpret these commands rather than making a person learn MongoDB commands and writing them. I struggled while writing these MongoDB commands. I had not seen such queries before. It was pretty difficult to get them. This is one of the areas where it would help from the improvement standpoint."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The most valuable feature of the solution is that it is freely available."
"We are using the free solution, so there is no cost involved."
"I was using the free version of Firebird SQL."
"The tool is open source."
"There is a yearly maintenance fee for the use of the solution."
"It is okay."
"Firebird SQL is an open-source solution, which means it is a free product."
"It's open-source and free."
"At the moment, all customers are using the community version."
"There is an enterprise license and it could be cheaper. We are using the free open source version."
"MongoDB is a free solution. We wanted to have high availability and the subscription cost was quite expensive because the basic one is free and then when you want to have some other replications or other features you will need to pay money. Overall the solution is expensive."
"The product is affordable."
"The solution is open source, so it is free."
"MongoDB is an open-source product."
"I chose MongoDB because it is cost-effective compared to Oracle, which can be expensive. In addition, MongoDB has good performance and has not caused any issues while working with it. It has been a good choice for me."
"We are using the Community Edition of MongoDB."
