Centralized log insights have reduced investigation time and improve security response
One improvement I want to see in Graylog Enterprise is artificial intelligence to help us automatically identify unusual patterns and suggest possible causes. I also want to see more ready-made dashboards and alert templates for common security use cases to help us gain value from the platform faster after deployment. Lastly, I want to see improvements in handling very large volumes of data, especially after searching, and a more user-friendly log management system, particularly in large environments. I give Graylog Enterprise a 9 out of 10 because it has a limitation of a steep learning curve for new users due to the many configuration options. It takes considerable time to become comfortable with creating searches, dashboards, and alerts. Additionally, in very large environments with large volumes of logs, it requires careful planning, and its data retention is quite limited.

Great for PCI compliance but issues with stability and large amounts of data
I mainly use this solution to meet PCI compliance The automation of compliance reports and the correlation of the log have been major improvements.  The most valuable feature is the predefined reports for PCI compliance. The correlation suite needs to be improved. I also think they need to…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I like the correlation and the alerting."
"With Graylog Enterprise, monitoring improved by up to 80 percent because of having all the logs centralized."
"Feature-wise or from the end user perspective, Graylog is just great."
"It is easier to find some issues, and if I find some issues, then it is easier to resolve them."
"While I cannot provide an exact number, Graylog Enterprise has reduced our investigation time by around 80%."
"Everything stands out as valuable, including the fact that I can quantify and qualify the logs, create pipelines and process the logs in any way I like, and create charts or data maps."
"What I like about Graylog is that it's real-time and you have access to the raw data. So, you ingest it, and you have access to every message and every data item you ingest. You can then build analytics on top of that. You can look at the raw data, and you can do some volumetric estimations, such as how big traffic you have, how many messages of data of a type you have, etc."
"I know that there are other similar tools available, but I enjoy using Graylog the most."
"Customer Service: The service we've seen from NNT to date has been extraordinarily good."
"The FIM features in the Change Tracker and the Log Tracker are the most valuable."
"The Change Tracker tool is very good and will reduce your overall workload."
"This is a very easy-to-use interface with a quick ramp-up time."
"File integrity monitoring is a very important function."
"If you want to deploy a SIEM and you want it to be simple, and not deal with much maintenance or help from the OEM, then I would say that NNT is the one."
"The most valuable feature is the predefined reports for PCI compliance."
"The automation of compliance reports and the correlation of the log have been major improvements."

Cons

"Graylog Enterprise performs well overall; however, the UI could be improved because the SOC team creates multiple dashboards based on their use cases, and creating dashboards is complex."
"Graylog could improve the process of creating rules. We have to create them manually by doing parses and applying them. Other SIEM solutions have basic rules and you can create and get more events of interest."
"Dashboards, stream alerts and parsing could be improved."
"If you have a whole team trying to fix the Graylog instance for two days, that's a bit too much."
"Its scalability gets complicated when we have to update or edit multiple nodes."
"The support from the Graylog community is helpful, but they can do better."
"Elasticsearch recommendations for tuning could be better. Graylog doesn't have direct support for running the system inside of Kubernetes, so it can be challenging to fill in the gaps and set up containers in a way that is both performant and stable."
"Graylog can improve the index rotation as it's quite a complex solution."
"There are some issues with the stability - the correlation engine has failed multiple times, and the reports sometimes take too long, so we have to involve the tech team to get them."
"Only one minor deployment issue came up and it was resolved quickly. No other areas of improvement come to mind yet."
"For the NNT Log Tracker and Change Tracker, they have to make their knowledge base available online because there is very little information available on the internet."
"The correlation suite needs to be improved."
"I would like to see the integration of AI technology, so rather than manually monitoring the logs, the tool will understand it and take care of it."
"It is able to identify the vulnerability, however, they need an option to auto-mitigate."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"You get a lot out-of-the-box with the non-enterprise version, so give it a try first."
"It's an open-source solution that can be used free of charge."
"We're using the Community edition."
"There is an open source version and an enterprise version. I wouldn't recommend the enterprise version, but as an open source solution, it is solid and works really well."
"I am using a community edition. I have not looked at the enterprise offering from Graylog."
"We are using the free version of the product. However, the paid version is expensive."
"Having paid official support is wise for projects."
"I use the free version of Graylog."
"Consider both their on-premises solution and their hosted solution. Both are reasonably priced."
"We have selected a perpetual license along with support."
"NNT's pricing is moderate - I would rate their pricing two-and-a-half out of ten."
