From my perspective, there is significant room for improvement in Horizon 8. Many customers are actively seeking alternatives to VMware due to recent licensing changes after Broadcom's acquisition, necessitating upgrades or bundles that they often do not require. Given that Omniser builds on VMware technologies, this creates a negative perception, pushing customers to consider different brands or solutions.

FlexApp and FlexIO Helps us be more flexible in how we deliver applications. The overall install process seems simple but many times just doesn't work. Support needs to be more readily available. More staff is needed. 3 years. Yes. Sometimes. Yes. Customer Service: Fair. Technical Support:…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a stable solution. It is wonderful for multi-user environments, and it supports different virtual machines and operating systems. You can go for any kind of virtual machine. It has many features, especially for a call center. You don't have the issue of computers going down from time to time. You just need to copy the virtual machine to deploy it. You also don't need many people to maintain computers. With Horizon 7, you just need one or two people."
"The solution simplifies our work."
"VMware is a hyper-converged infrastructure model. Therefore, for scaling it you just add more servers to it in the inputs. It's rather straightforward."
"Great sorting feature to create UI on demand."
"If it is a uniform VDI client, such as all Windows 10 systems for users to log in, like on host environment, or it's all a server farm, etc., for those kinds of environments, Horizon is a no brainer."
"The solution includes good user profiles and policies."
"It is easy to maintain."
"The product is quite stable; there are no bugs or glitches, it doesn't crash or freeze, and it's reliable."
"Liquidware Labs ProfileUnity with FlexApp is a valid third-party solution that seems to be primed to hit a sweet spot in the market."
"Helps us be more flexible in how we deliver applications."

Cons

"Considering the tool's weaknesses, the product probably has scope for some improvement in the context of how the applications or Linux operating systems are delivered using VMware Horizon View."
"We are not satisfied with the storage vendor. I would like to see the VDP or other features for backing up the VMs."
"If we can go into a cloud environment, then I see a lot of things I would need."
"The solution’s stability and initial setup could be improved."
"The solution must be faster and smoother."
"P.s. without UEM, App volumes will show you the applications instantly, just when you add UEM you add management on a different level that for now hurts me."
"The vendor must move the infrastructure into the public cloud."
"Horizon View's pricing is high."
"I tried to install all components on one server with limited resources and that kinda failed."
"The overall install process seems simple but many times just doesn't work."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"VMware Horizon is expensive. It should provide a special price for more user licenses."
"We are happy with the price."
"The VMware Horizon 7 license is for three months. We are in the testing stage, we are still evaluating the product. We are sure now that we need to buy a license for the production environment."
"It is hard to know for sure. It is definitely in the $20,000 to $30,000 range. It is quite expensive, but you do save money on desktop power, desktop upgrades, etc. You're able to extend the useful life of your previous desktops. Previously, we used to change desktops regularly, and now we just change them when they break."
"The license cost has increased significantly, so we’re helping some customers with Azure VMware desktop solutions to save on licensing."
"I rate the product cost a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is high price, and ten is low price."
"This solution is expensive. A lot of companies in Mexico find that the price is too high."
"VMware Horizon is expensive and I would rate it an eight out of ten."
