Has enabled me to simplify complex infrastructures and support virtualization projects with efficiency
In HP, I have been on board on a project study until 2018 and we studied the server rack model that supports HPE Hyper Converged board and Windows configuration. HPE Hyper Converged is excellent because it can avoid the usage of storage area network. For example, if you have three servers in parallel in a battery, a cluster, you can share the local storage for each server in a hyper-converged virtual storage without the storage area network. The architecture here has a simple physical structure. The logical configuration is complex, but the physical infrastructure is simpler than the old legacy cluster with the storage area network. The possibility of issues is minor. There is a very high level of redundancy and very high level of performance distribution and parallel usage of resources. It functions as a grid configuration. HPE Hyper Converged can be improved by replacing the old infrastructure based on legacy clusters and old servers. It can replace and dispose of legacy storage that is very expensive to maintain and has great dimensions to manage. You can dispose of big storage to have a battery of local servers with local storage in a hyper-converged architecture. This is not the future, it is the new technology. It is probably the best solution for cloud service and also for companies that require several virtualized environments. The foundation for using the hyper-converged solution is virtualization. First, every company must switch from physical setup to virtual configuration. Second, HPE Hyper Converged is a technology upgraded to avoid local big storage, storage area network, and complex fiber cabling from server to storage. You can eliminate everything and just manage the battery of servers in hyper-converged configuration as they share and are able to share the local storage as main big storage area network.

Has integrated solutions and rapid recovery made management smoother and more reliable
There is the latest update from HPE regarding HPE SimpliVity. For virtualization, HPE has to depend on other manufacturers, OEMs such as VMware or Hyper-V. Recently, HPE declared the VM essential virtualization solution. In the future, if HPE integrates HPE SimpliVity with VM essential, that will be a great combination. Functionality-wise, I am totally satisfied with HPE SimpliVity, but for improvement, if HPE integrates its own virtualization solution, this combination and integration will be beneficial because this integration can be configured with the cloud-based system. A VM can be uploaded to the cloud from this, which will be advantageous for backup to other sites.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Before deploying the product, we did not have any enterprise IT infrastructure, and now with the HC380 deployment we succeeded in building all the required servers, organizing and protecting the data, which has increased our operational efficiency and level, and given us flexibility thanks to HPE HC380 and VMware."
"The features I've found most valuable are manageability, integrated backup solution SimpliVity, and deep integration."
"The HPE Hyper Converged solution is used in a hybrid cloud configuration. We assess the disk space and partition additional capacity."
"The most valuable feature was its time to delivery."
"HPE Hyper Converged is stable."
"Now, our storage and IT are at an enterprise level with all the necessary controls and restrictions being enacted."
"Ease of management, as I come from a software background, and I'm responsible for IT overall. I can get in there and turn some nuts and bolts and make things happen without any trouble."
"There are multiple advantages. Typically, being an all-flash storage, which is available through either SimpliVity or dHCI, the performance is much better because the IOPS goes high, so it's more powerful in terms of performance. Secondly, if I'm talking of SimpliVity Hyper Convergence solution from HPE, unlike the competition, even if three hard drives fail, you are still running the solution."
"The whole backup and recovery capability, where we are able to create full backups and restore full backups in typically 40 to 50 seconds with a data reduction ratio of 290:1, has been a great feature."
"The globally federated architecture means that the backup across sites does not consume precious MPLS bandwidth, which is cool."
"All of these awesome features make Simplivity a real game changer in the market."
"We had a standard HPE blade server, our reseller put forward SimpliVity to us, we tried it out and tested it, and I was like, "Wow," it blew us away."
"We chose this solution because the product was very innovative."
"Performance scalability was easily achieved for a virtual environment running a mix of common IT business applications, while providing fast, predictable response times."
"It has been performing well. It was more than what we expected."
"I like that I can create a service as I need it, I don't need new licenses for operating systems, I don't need to ask for server space, I don't need to wait for support, and I don't need to wait for monitoring."

Cons

"In the Hyper Converged environment, some of the brands only support the OS VMware and not Hyper-V from Microsoft or even Red Hat or KVM."
"Providing local technical support and improving the price are areas this service needs to consider improving."
"This solution is very costly."
"One problem I've had is that I was trying to do a move and it was not working. I was given an error and a message asking me to shut down the machine first and then move it to another host."
"Though with HPE Hyper Converged, you get everything, the documentation part is very much required, especially if you opt for the solution's subscription-based licensing model."
"In my country, the biggest issue is probably pricing."
"I would like to see a more intuitive, user-friendly UI."
"The downside of the solution is the scalability because they grow using nodes, but it's not desegregate."
"Let us populate the entire node; right now, there are 24 slots in a server and you're only allowed to populate 14."
"Now that the technology has been changed, the product stability will always be in doubt."
"I don't think it's as simple as it is marketed, but it is a new product."
"HPE could give us more options for server models to chose when using the product. Right now, we can only use the DL380."
"SimpliVity has this thing where if a virtual machine is on the wrong node with two nodes, it will be optimized. However, if one of the nodes won't be optimized, then it will complain about that. It will give you a little warning to say the source is not optimized. Please move this to one of the other hosts. They should just add a little thing in SimpliVity to move all the VMs to the right host, because it is a pain to load balance across the three nodes when all these VMs are complaining and you have to move them to one."
"When we make some upgrades to the platform, it does take time to stabilize the structure again."
"The initial setup is not that easy."
"I have not seen ROI."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive - not only the hardware costs but server costs too. And the more you scale, the more expensive it gets."
"Pricing with Dell EMC is double the price which I paid for HPE. However, in the end, Dell EMC is double in performance. This is not an apple to apple comparison though, as I have a four node from Dell EMC and a three node."
"The solution is too expensive for our customers. The pricing should be lower."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"HPE Hyper Converged is an affordable solution."
"It could be cheaper, everything could be cheaper."
"We have a very good return on investment due to data savings through compression and deduplication methods. It simplifies IT management and enhances security, including the end-to-end security of the IT data engine. The product is complete, simple, and provides visibility."
"It is an expensive solution, however. If they could adjust the pricing, that would be helpful."
"ESXi licensing is a big part of initial investment if you do not already have that covered."
"For three years, it is $60,000 for three nodes. It is quite pricey."
"There are additional costs for storage."
"The product is expensive."
"Its licensing is quite easy. There is a model license, but it depends on the system you buy. There are no extra costs. There is only one license."
"HPE SimpliVity is much more affordable than Nutanix or VMware vSAN...The first pair of servers was about 90,000 EUR, including three years of warranty. It is 30,000 EUR per year."
"Its licensing is yearly."
"Investing less time in configuration and management means that you will have more time to focus on what is really important: Your company's innovation and rapid commercialization."
