Infrastructure management simplifies for clients with integrated interface and enhanced resource utilization
Currently, the HPE HCI is based on the VMware solution, and most clients are skipping VMware because VMware has changed its licensing method. If HPE starts to use its own hypervisor for its HCI solutions, it will be the best solution. We push a different vendor for the backup and replication, so we only use the HCI, then we use Veeam for the backup and replication section.

Experience improved integration and cost-efficiency while facing support challenges
The best features of VxRail are its compatibility with VMware, its hyper-converged solution capabilities, and its single line of support. These are the most beneficial aspects of VxRail. I switched from the previous HP solution to Dell solution because it was a good decision. With HP servers, we dealt with a vendor for the compute servers, another vendor for the storage servers, and another vendor for the networking, which required us to manage multiple vendors. Now, we have a single team who can handle VxRail and a single line of support. We don't need anything other than that, and these are the differences we noticed after we switched.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We like the fact that the hyper-converged infrastructure provides a simple to grow, easy to configure platform."
"The solution's most valuable features are scalability, easy migration, easy recovery, and flexible backup possibilities."
"It provides unmatched performance, productivity and reliability."
"The provisioning is very fast. It’s not a problem for us to achieve the goals of the client."
"Our storage and IT are now at an enterprise level with all the necessary controls and restrictions being enacted."
"The most valuable feature is the in-built backup system. The backup speed is also excellent."
"There are multiple advantages. Typically, being an all-flash storage, which is available through either SimpliVity or dHCI, the performance is much better because the IOPS goes high, so it's more powerful in terms of performance. Secondly, if I'm talking of SimpliVity Hyper Convergence solution from HPE, unlike the competition, even if three hard drives fail, you are still running the solution."
"If you were comparing this solution to VMware, it has more features, and it's very fast on the recovery."
"The solution has simplified our operations."
"One-click upgrade is valuable because upgrading an environment that is considered a traditional one is something that we never do or are never going to complete. It is very time-consuming for my team. With the one-click upgrade, it is much quicker. There are preparation stages, but it takes less time, so we are also saving time in the daily administration."
"I can roll out the system in thirty minutes and the customer can work with it."
"t's a very good solution with multiple options with VxRail series like based on customer requirements whether they're focused on compute, storage, scalability and high performance, etc. Whether a customer you are going to start your IT Infrastructure footprint with a limited budget, you have freedom of choice and non-disruptive expansion in the future, whether in the main data center or branches. Any idea coming in system admins mind to run this setup continuously and keep service 100% 24/7 is possible in this product line. Hyper-converged appliances allow a datacenter in a box approach, with G, E P, Vand P series."
"We were able to speed up our gaming software, which was a big plus."
"Enterprise is a complete solution that includes performance, backups and disaster recovery."
"For me, the most valuable feature is in relation to the software updates."
"There are so many features, but if I have to choose, I would go for scale-out upgrades and performance. Scale-out upgrades are very valuable. Typically, when customers engage in virtualization, they're committing themselves to run many virtual machines on a fewer number of hosts. They'll have five or six hosts, and they will run all their virtualization on vSphere. They could be having anywhere from 50 to 100 or even more virtual machines. Once all these go into production, getting downtime or getting planned maintenance windows is extremely difficult. It is something that typically businesses will frown upon. With VxRail, you can just go ahead and add a node without disrupting the existing environment, which works very well. That's why scale-out upgrades are a key feature. Its performance is also valuable. It delivers a very high number of IOPS for a hybrid configuration or an all-flash configuration. The processors that are available in the Xeon family are very powerful. They are multi-core with typically 2 gigahertz, 2.4 gigahertz, or higher frequency, so the performance is very much appreciated."

Cons

"I think that OneView should be replaced by something else for the management."
"A software-only version of the solution, without the hardware, would be nice."
"There are some general issues around component failure and raising technical support. Overall, the stability is rated seven or eight out of ten."
"Data protection and optimization: It is really weak. They do not offer deduplication or compression."
"Scalability requires using additional nodes."
"The solution's pricing for the hardware and support could be reduced."
"Though with HPE Hyper Converged, you get everything, the documentation part is very much required, especially if you opt for the solution's subscription-based licensing model."
"'ve heard from other people that maybe there could be some improvements around technical support."
"One area of the product that could be improved is the support."
"The major issue with VxRail is the razoring process, which can only be performed by Dell."
"They should add automation and activation going forward."
"There is an area for improvement with VxRail, specifically the upgrade process. Upgrading the is quite complex and almost exclusively requires Dell support. You can't do it alone, so you need to have support contracts running, which could be streamlined to improve the solution."
"There are still some features which aren't built into Cisco, like virtualized networking, that use its applications. However, these can be purchased through another product as an additional licensing cost to us."
"The only issue which is every now and again is that when you log in it will tell you that there's an issue with VxRail when there actually isn't. All that's required is a refresh or reload. The solution itself works but you may get some bad reports every now and again. Probably once every couple of months; there is no effect to the solution's capabilities."
"The present SaaS model license structure can be improved."
"From a hardware and software perspective, there could be an improvement in the sales cycle, as there is a lot of hoops to go through to get pricing on a solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing with Dell EMC is double the price which I paid for HPE. However, in the end, Dell EMC is double in performance. This is not an apple to apple comparison though, as I have a four node from Dell EMC and a three node."
"It is an expensive solution, however. If they could adjust the pricing, that would be helpful."
"It is a cost-effective solution."
"The product's pricing is very competitive because HPE provides a buyback policy to users...Users can make either monthly or yearly payments towards the licensing cause of the solution."
"I would rate the price at seven out of ten. There are no additional licensing fees, but it would be cheaper to go with a dHCI solution."
"The price per value compared to other solutions, like Nutanix and SimpliVity. (We made the deal before approval of HPE SimpliVity deal)."
"It could be cheaper, everything could be cheaper."
"HPE Hyper Converged is an affordable solution."
"The pricing is very accurate, and we haven't had any problems with the licensing costs."
"Since VMware is detached from Dell, the solution's pricing is a bit higher than before."
"Though somewhat expensive. But in terms of performance and stability, it's worth it."
"The price could be lower."
"It is expensive as compared to other products in the same category."
"The price is rather on the high side."
"The licensing of vSAN and VMware for different editions of VxRail is not easy."
"Compare the VxRail product to Nutanix. Nutanix has more features, but its pricing is higher."
