Robust security layers have supported mission-critical banking and protected sensitive data
Where I have not really enjoyed is the flexibility of doing things. You are just in a straitjacket with what they give you. The flexibility of doing things is limited compared to other platforms. The backup and restore features on that module were a bit old. I couldn't create a snapshot and provision a server in minutes. The VM features that I can use now easily were not that easy with HPE Integrity and were not even available for us. I had a lot of interaction with HPE Integrity and wanted to move to a different platform for a different experience. I did not see any products matching the Dell PowerFlex environment in terms of server capabilities when it comes to HPE Integrity. We are now using Oracle products and Oracle Data Guard. Oracle on HPE Integrity was a bit more difficult because you have to get separate patches, separate tunables, and separate kernel settings for HPE Integrity. Everything was so proprietary on HPE Integrity, making it difficult to have one solution. The Dell Linux environment with Oracle Linux OS now will be much easier.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The stability is pretty good."
"HPE Integrity is a reliable solution, but you'll need to refurbish the hardware because it's approaching the end of sale."
"We need to be able to offer our customers continuous service 24/7, and we are able to do all this with Integrity."
"The added value of Integrity has always been the reliability of the processors and all the parts in the servers."
"We currently deployed HP Integrity blade servers; they offer great versatility, redundancy, and a rapid method of deploying multiple virtual guests within 10 minutes."
"HPE Integrity is a mission-critical server, and we are using it for our SAP; we require zero downtime, which is why it is typically used in environments like banks or air traffic control where the downtime requirement is absolute zero."
"We use it as a database server for SAP systems, and it is performing very well."
"It just keeps on going; we don't have any problems with any HPE equipment, to be fair."
"The solution helps us to implement new business requirements quickly, by using the Composer for efficiency, and it has improved the productivity of our development team because we are able to deploy development environments rapidly and have seen about a 25 percent reduction in deployment times."
"All components in the HPE Synergy solution are redundant; if we experience any downtime in a component, a redundant one is available in our Synergy frame, therefore the downtime and stability for HPE Synergy solution are very good and highly appreciated."
"OneView, as a single point, a single management tool, it makes me delirious. It's really nice."
"We have seen a huge ROI: instead of having to buy 50 workstations - and we didn't have room for them, where we would need another classroom or another area - we didn't have to invest in any of that."
"Synergy is much easier to use, which is saving us time. We are able to set the profiles for firmware upgrades. This makes the process for the care and feeding of the IT environment much simpler, quicker, and cleaner."
"For us, it's all about up-time and a good performance experience for our customers and Synergy helps us do that."
"Valuable features include its dependability, reliability, and the ease of managing the system."
"HPE Synergy software-defined infrastructure simplifies our operations by quickening deployment, quickening roll-out and services to our clinicians and physicians."

Cons

"Don't do it. Go x86."
"I don't know if Integrity will survive too much because if the Itanium processors are not going to be supportive anymore, I think in the midterm (4 or 5 years), Integrity's going to be replaced by another product line."
"The virtualization of HPE Integrity could be simplified. We have discussed this issue with HPE and hopefully, they will have an update."
"Blade system backplane is SPOF."
"Where I have not really enjoyed is the flexibility of doing things. You are just in a straitjacket with what they give you."
"HPE Integrity needs improvement in terms of pricing for scalability."
"Unlike other platforms, it lacks easy integration with popular cloud services like Office 365."
"The monitoring is an area that needs some improvement."
"I would really like a way to validate the firmware in my specific environment before trying to deploy it."
"I would like more storage with this solution, because we still need 3PAR or other storage outside the box for the amount of data that we have."
"I'd get the firmware to be a little more secure and a little more streamlined."
"The lowest echelon of HPE technical support is sadly uninformed, unknowledgeable, and dependent on wrote scripts. They won't answer a question without going through their script. It's not like you're actually talking to somebody who has any depth or time using any of the equipment."
"ICMs could be better in this model."
"After delivering the contract, they became a little less active. So, it needs some pushing from my side sometimes."
"The cost is high or a big investment and that is a drawback for some customers."
"I would like to see more nodes in a single chassis so we wouldn't have to purchase additional chassis."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Price-wise, the solution is very expensive."
"The pricing is the best."
"There is no license required to use HPE Integrity."
"The price is not very expensive."
"HPE Integrity's pricing could be better."
"We bought everything outright to start with. We don't do much consumption-based stuff."
"In our whole environment, the cost is in the millions. On this particular chassis, the annual cost is 12 blades times approximately $40,000."
"Synergy has lowered our total cost of ownership significantly. I would say ballpark around 25 percent, maybe more."
"We pay about £500 for the solution."
"When we made the purchase of the hardware, we added Professional Services to it."
"The hardware licensing cost is reasonable."
"The cost is high and that is a drawback for some customers."
"Nutanix was really hard to implement, and it was very pricey compared to what we get from Synergy."
