With a perfect record for uptime, the solution ensures a return on investment
Since it is a legacy tool, there is a need to change it for flexibility. I think now it has improved because the security is very good. It is very secure for the performance of the machine critical application service, and it is very good. I don't know how to speak more on improvement needed because it's a good enough tool. However, depending on the application, it's limited. Not a lot of applications run on HPE NonStop. It is not flexible because I know that because of the compatibility of Java with HPE NonStop. When we are using Java, the performance is not good.

Helps grow horizontally or vertically within one box or chassis
The initial setup is very easy. We deployed this in two days, including installation, system setup, firmware upgrades, configuration, and network connection. By the next day, we were already deploying virtual machines. We initially began with the Blade system. As the migration to SAP HANA approached, it seemed prudent to upgrade our hardware. Consequently, we facilitated their transition from the Blade system to Synergy. Subsequently, we collaborated closely with the SAP consultancy company to oversee the migration process, ensuring seamless integration of all workloads and sub-environments. We have four people working on the deployment, including a project manager, two specialists, and one tech support.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"They've been very reliable since we started using them in 1978, but we're going to replace them in a few years."
"It helps us to keep the business running 24/7."
"The HPE NonStop solution is rated with the highest level of availability in the industry."
"This is the standard for reliability and fault-resilience."
"Technical support is A++. If there is a problem, HPE will fix it."
"If you are contemplating a fault-tolerant, high uptime transaction processing machine with above normal transactions volumes - to act as a transaction server with infrequent changes to code - and you simply must have bulletproof performance - this might be the ticket."
"It is a nearly perfect product, although it also has some restrictions and short comings."
"Feature-wise, the most valuable one is the fact that it has 100 hundred percent uptime every year. Secondly, it is stable."
"The Synergy environment provides us with one view. We're able to manage the entire stack, top to bottom, from that single view."
"The most valuable features are the converged network adapters."
"The initial setup is straightforward. The infrastructures as code enables you to fill out the configuration before you even deploy it, then it is just a one-touch deployment."
"The Online firmware update for the virtual connects has minimized our downtime windows."
"Support is very helpful."
"We like that the solution can be arranged for an all-in-one single pane of glass, something our customers find important."
"On the previous HPE platform, we struggled because everything was independent. We had to manage firmware on each server, storage and network configuration on each server. Synergy is template-driven so we can ensure consistency of all of those settings. It allows us to standardize configuration and ensure consistency across the board."
"The solution's greatest strengths lie in its ability to maintain a high availability and combine networking with hyper channel connectivity into a single component."

Cons

"There were some scalability issues. When we decided to migrate an application or port application, the limitations of these servers did not help us."
"It would be helpful if they brought the price down."
"Currently the NonStop platform doesn’t support virtualization of servers or CPU’s. Only storage."
"I would never advise someone to buy or to implement the new NonStop because it's hard to find skilled people."
"The NonStop Support Center is very good, with an occasional bump in the road."
"HPE NonStop could improve by having infrastructure management."
"If pushed, then the only thing I can think of would be utilities provided by the vendor."
"The hardware fails often, and I feel that HP really needs to pay more attention to this issue."
"I rate this solution a seven out of 10 because I think we were promised a little more than we were given."
"Instead of having Synergy vertical, make it horizontal. It is easier to stick in when it is vertical."
"It would be nice if the updates were not accompanied by downtime."
"When templates are created, there are some steps where you need to reboot the machines. Being in production, this is not a good idea. For example, if you reconfigure the network, you should not have to reboot the machine. You should just apply the new template and that's it."
"After delivering the contract, they became a little less active, so it needs some pushing from my side sometimes."
"The update is problematic. When you want to update the firmware, or when you want to update software on Composer, it takes a lot of time. A lot."
"In the past, I have had issues with configurations."
"The initial setup was complex. We had a couple of bright engineers working on it, and they figured out a lot of things that they don't know... The problem was that they couldn't find documentation easily, to walk them through setup when they just didn't know the platform."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"HPE NonStop is definitely on the higher end."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is very cheap, and ten is very expensive, I rate the pricing an eight."
"The price of the solution is too high. If they lowered the price substantially it would open up more opportunities. It's considered a replacement for the old 9000 boxes of HP. If it had a lower price, we would be able to compete in the financial, and other sectors and other solutions such as Terraform. Having a high price makes other solutions more attractive."
"The Nutanix platform came in a little more expensive than the Synergy."
"When we made the purchase of the hardware, we added Professional Services to it."
"There was at least about a 20 percent savings in cost over our purchase based on the purchase price of the compute modules themselves versus what we've had to pay before. It was significantly less."
"The price point is a little high. We were able to get a good deal on a promotion, to go with it. It would be nice to see the prices come down a little bit."
"The biggest cost is the VMware licensing."
"We do CAPEX."
"The licensing is more around the software for RGS, because we are deploying bare metal installs. It is mainly the operating system and any lights-out management. So, licensing is minimum. We are licensing it annually."
"In our whole environment, the cost is in the millions. On this particular chassis, the annual cost is 12 blades times approximately $40,000."
