Has integrated solutions and rapid recovery made management smoother and more reliable
There is the latest update from HPE regarding HPE SimpliVity. For virtualization, HPE has to depend on other manufacturers, OEMs such as VMware or Hyper-V. Recently, HPE declared the VM essential virtualization solution. In the future, if HPE integrates HPE SimpliVity with VM essential, that will be a great combination. Functionality-wise, I am totally satisfied with HPE SimpliVity, but for improvement, if HPE integrates its own virtualization solution, this combination and integration will be beneficial because this integration can be configured with the cloud-based system. A VM can be uploaded to the cloud from this, which will be advantageous for backup to other sites.

With an easy deployment phase, the tool offers good scalability and stability
Suppose you don't compare Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series with the newest features available in the other variants of the product, then everything is pretty standard, so I cannot pinpoint any areas of issue in particular. With Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series, the firmware from VMware or Nutanix takes time to be made available compared to other products that we use in our company's IT environment. If you want to go to a certain version of VMware and check what Nutanix offers, you see that both the offerings don't go hand in hand, and you have to wait for a quarter or two quarters until you see the same versions of both being made available for the other products, like Dell or HPE. There is a delay in the availability of similar versions of firmware from both the products, which are VMware and Nutanix for Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series, due to the delayed releases from both products, maybe by a quarter or so. The aforementioned area can be considered for improvement in a solution. In future releases of the product, I may want some improvements to be made in the products from Nutanix and VMware.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The ability to restore quickly and get the business back up and running is priceless."
"The main thing is its performance. In terms of performance, it is a lot better than VMware. Obviously, technology is changing a lot all the time. We were on just VMware with a separate attached array. The performance was kind of a step backward from just running separate servers. Now, the performance is much better, and we can take snapshots and backups of really big servers in just a matter of seconds. We can even restore them in a matter of seconds."
"Within our first year, one of our SQL servers got corrupted somehow and wouldn't boot, and we restored the VM from the previous backup, which was at that time about an hour old, and in under a minute we had that 950 GB VM up and running."
"The most valuable feature is that it's easy to manage, and it also has instantaneous backup and lag-free restore, so when everything is running, I can bring back a huge VM in less than 30 seconds, which is even better than Veeam."
"Has good performance and ease of use"
"The configuration capabilities are good."
"It's allowed us to be more efficient in disk space usage with a reduction of 47 to 1 in hard drive space."
"With Simplivity we are able to backup file servers every 4 hours and restore them in less than 20 seconds."
"Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series is cost-effective, and when comparing this solution to other OEM solutions it is relatively inexpensive."
"The initial setup is simple. We were able to deliver the hyper-convergence solution in a very good time."
"The most valuable features of the Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series are the ease of use and simple configuration."
"The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that the product's deployment phase is pretty easy."

Cons

"It crashes often. When one particular VM has random, large IOPS requests, it will bog down the node, and there isn't enough time for the replica to be brought up. So all the VMs on that one particular node will essentially become offline."
"The fact that it is compatible with vCenter (VMware) only; however, the company says Hyper-V and KVM are coming shortly."
"The only problem I had was that when we initially purchased SimpliVity, I didn't know that the OmniCube took up 60 GB of RAM."
"The graphical interface and reports need to be improved compared to other brands."
"When we make some upgrades to the platform, it does take time to stabilize the structure again."
"The price could be better and it needs to back to other storage."
"There is room for improvement in the operations area because the support for that server space is minimal."
"SimpliVity has this thing where if a virtual machine is on the wrong node with two nodes, it will be optimized. However, if one of the nodes won't be optimized, then it will complain about that. It will give you a little warning to say the source is not optimized. Please move this to one of the other hosts. They should just add a little thing in SimpliVity to move all the VMs to the right host, because it is a pain to load balance across the three nodes when all these VMs are complaining and you have to move them to one."
"Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series could improve by having better integration with the solutions from VMware and vCenter"
"Here in Nigeria, the only challenge that we have, which I think is also experienced globally is the delay in bringing in the spare parts. This is a challenge facing our country, such as the Forex market. However, this is beyond the control of Lenovo themselves."
"The technical support of Lenovo ThinkAgile HX can improve. I rate the support from Lenovo ThinkAgile HX a three out of five."
"There is a delay in the availability of similar versions of firmware from both the products, which are VMware and Nutanix for Lenovo ThinkAgile HX Series, due to the delayed releases from both products, maybe by a quarter or so."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is priced high. However, there are plenty of features as part of the package that other solutions do not have."
"The price should be cheaper."
"We're paying $3,000-$4,000 a month."
"It has helped to reduce our VMware licensing costs due to host consolidation."
"It seemed like it was expensive at first. Now that I have had it installed for a period of time, I think I got a great deal."
"It is expensive for this market. Everyone says that it is a very good product, but the only complaint is about the price."
"Its licensing is yearly."
"We bought this solution as a package that included all of the hardware and all of the software."
"When comparing this solution to other OEM solutions it is relatively inexpensive."
"Price-wise, it is a pretty good product. The product's price was one of the main criteria that made my company choose it over the other products in the market."
