Collaborate effectively with partners and benefit from robust data management capabilities
The functions of HPE StoreOnce that I find most valuable are its deduplication and replication options. These features save data and reduce the size of data significantly. If the actual size for backup data is 100 terabytes, using StoreOnce, it will be around less than 10% of the original size due to the 1 to 10 deduplication ratio. So, compression and replication are critical features I appreciate. Additionally, adaptive backup and restore capabilities of HPE StoreOnce are indeed very helpful functions. As I know from my technical team, the process is very easy for end users because the GUI and user experience with StoreOnce are straightforward. They can restore their backups at any time. An important feature of StoreOnce is that they can reserve an amount of storage capacity as protected capacity for a limited time, safeguarding their data against intrusion and other interactions. Based on feedback from customers, StoreOnce is regarded as a highly useful solution for backup. I am satisfied with the security aspects of HPE StoreOnce, but it's crucial for any company to maintain a multi-layer security approach. Starting with a firewall is essential for maintaining their environment. Additionally, security features on StoreOnce are useful. I believe that no company should rely solely on one layer of security; they should adopt a multi-layer security strategy that begins at the network level and extends to their internal solutions.

A virtual deduplication backup appliance that protects physical and virtual data across remote sites, the datacenter and cloud deployments
Given its ease of use and management, I believe there are no specific caveats that users need to be aware of during the setup of DXRIS for backups. The process was straightforward, and I did not encounter any challenges or issues. As for a rating on a scale of one to ten, with one being the worst and ten being the best, I would rate the Quantum DXI Series a nine. My deduction is primarily influenced by personal preferences, particularly regarding the user interface and it is a highly commendable system, I would rate it a solid nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Before we used HP StoreOnce, the backup was stored on DAS, which was fine until you have a problem in a disk and lose all your data."
"The deduplication feature is awesome; the storage space has been cut down by at least 50% and on some instances greater reduction has been achieved."
"Deduplication and many integration options ie. NAS, VTL, Catalyst."
"The most valuable features for us are the ease of use, the reliability, and the exceptional deduplication that we get across that data that we store on those devices."
"Excellent and seamless virtual and physical backup."
"It makes it a lot more cost-effective because you're not buying ten pieces of technology separately."
"StoreOnce has the following advantages: Fast backup, no need to manage and store tapes, ability to run data straight from the device in case of a disaster, reliable compared to weekly problems with tapes, and the data is replicated to two remote locations."
"The implementation is straightforward."
"I am impressed with the tool's technical alliance with Veeam and Veritas."
"While the challenges posed by the difficulties were significant, they prompted the replacement of problematic components, resulting in the resolution of issues. Importantly, there were no substantial ongoing concerns. Regarding the overall performance, it has been consistently excellent."

Cons

"The user interface of HPE StoreOnce is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"Six months after purchasing StoreOnce, the database became corrupt and the unit had to be replaced."
"It's not big, but it could be smaller and take up less space in the data center."
"Initial setup is done via ssh connection and not web based, and the web based management is a little less appealing visually than the previous incarnation."
"We're unable to expand our storage capabilities smoothly."
"In order to import tapes from StoreOnce, we had to identify the ID of the items in each store on the appliances, and then create them manually on the HP Data Protector."
"It is difficult to solve issues with this solution remotely. I prefer to use the knowledge base platforms. The response time could improve."
"StoreOnce software is sometimes unstable."
"The product needs to improve performance while scaling out. It also needs to improve stability."
"Perhaps the most notable area for enhancement lies in the web interface for management. The current limitations in LDAP editing capabilities are not addressed in the UI, and I haven't observed any recent updates. It's possible that the new version of the DXI service incorporates improvements in the GUI, but I cannot confirm. While there is room for improvement in the current GUI, it remains a relatively minor issue. Overall, the system is comprehensive, covering aspects such as reports on latency and networking, leaving little room for additional enhancements in those areas."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"HPE StoreOnce is cheaper compared to other solutions in the market."
"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten."

"The solution is pretty expensive."
"There are costs for additional storage and space."
"The price puts me off. It's definitely on the high side."
"The licensing costs is capacity-based and come bundled with support."
"I do not oversee this aspect, as pricing is contingent on factors such as volume, technical specifications, and the desired features. Consequently, I lack information on the pricing details and structure."
