Expert Backup at a tech services company with 201-500 employees
A virtual deduplication backup appliance that protects physical and virtual data across remote sites, the datacenter and cloud deployments
Given its ease of use and management, I believe there are no specific caveats that users need to be aware of during the setup of DXRIS for backups. The process was straightforward, and I did not encounter any challenges or issues. As for a rating on a scale of one to ten, with one being the worst and ten being the best, I would rate the Quantum DXI Series a nine. My deduction is primarily influenced by personal preferences, particularly regarding the user interface and it is a highly commendable system, I would rate it a solid nine out of ten.

High-speed backup and strong deduplication have supported secure long-term data protection
In my opinion, what can be improved about Veritas NetBackup Appliance includes licensing. A mixed licensing model would be more helpful, such as terabytes plus virtual machines, terabytes plus instances, or number of instances. I believe this could work and create a new competitive licensing model against other products. Additionally, embedding Enterprise Vault or some of its features in the backup software would enable better competition with Commvault, which offers backup and archiving from the same console. For the next release of Veritas NetBackup Appliance, I would like to see improvements in licensing, increased deduplication ratio, and enhanced high availability. Having high availability for Veritas NetBackup Appliance without requiring virtual storage like Cohesity would be important. Improving the overall high availability of Veritas NetBackup Appliance would be beneficial.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"While the challenges posed by the difficulties were significant, they prompted the replacement of problematic components, resulting in the resolution of issues. Importantly, there were no substantial ongoing concerns. Regarding the overall performance, it has been consistently excellent."
"I am impressed with the tool's technical alliance with Veeam and Veritas."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance is a total backup solution. We don't have to buy other applications to do it."
"The customer service and support are excellent."
"I have no stability issues to report...The initial setup is quite simple."
"I like the solution, it works well, the integration to the VMware environment is good, and the documentation is helpful and easy to follow."
"The most valuable features of Veritas NetBackup Appliance include extension syncing, making copies of the data, expiring images, replication, and speed."
"It’s quite scalable."
"The benefits I have observed from working with Veritas NetBackup Appliance include the throughput of the appliance, starting from 2 to 50 terabytes per hour, which compares favorably with other competitors' products in this competitive domain."
"I think the solution is very intuitive, effective, and easy to use."

Cons

"The product needs to improve performance while scaling out. It also needs to improve stability."
"Perhaps the most notable area for enhancement lies in the web interface for management. The current limitations in LDAP editing capabilities are not addressed in the UI, and I haven't observed any recent updates. It's possible that the new version of the DXI service incorporates improvements in the GUI, but I cannot confirm. While there is room for improvement in the current GUI, it remains a relatively minor issue. Overall, the system is comprehensive, covering aspects such as reports on latency and networking, leaving little room for additional enhancements in those areas."
"Veritas NetBackup would benefit from better explained error codes."
"Feature-wise, it is quite good, but it is very costly. Its price has gone up quite significantly over the years, and that makes people like us look at alternatives."
"I contacted their support once, and the process was slow, which discouraged further contact."
"The costing part is on the higher side. The reporting could also be improved."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance could improve by having a site recovery feature."
"The tool's pricing is expensive and could be lower."
"They could improve the process of installing by not wasting so much local disk space during the process."
"Technical support could be improved, the knowledge base is quite low and it's complicated to deal with them."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I do not oversee this aspect, as pricing is contingent on factors such as volume, technical specifications, and the desired features. Consequently, I lack information on the pricing details and structure."
"The licensing costs for this solution are very high."
"The price of Veritas NetBackup Appliance is competitive. There are different models of Veritas NetBackup Appliance, such as perpetual licenses and subscriptions. Having the choice is good."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance is priced well compared to other solutions."
"I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."
"There is a license required for this solution."
"The licensing costs are approximately 150,00 Saudi Riyals."
"The pricing for the solution's software maintenance and licensing is high."
"This solution is expensive."
