High-performance servers have powered secure database analytics and flexible virtualization
The processing power and computing power are very good. Even with the Xeon Gold processor, it is performing very well without any issues. After migrating to these servers, we reduced the number of cores or CPUs from our infrastructure level. However, it is still not reaching the threshold limit of CPU usage. The bandwidth handling capability as well as computing capabilities are excellent. Day by day, Dell is enhancing and releasing new models and new Dell PowerEdge C- Series systems with new computing capability CPUs from Intel. These types of compatibilities are getting evaluated, and I am keeping my eye on that aspect so that when new technologies and new areas emerge, we can buy new hardware to migrate and host our other applications. Dell PowerEdge C- Series advanced security features are noteworthy. My applications are running without any issues, without any hacking or data leakage. Our security team and gateway firewall teams are always concerned about security, and I have peace of mind. Of course, Dell PowerEdge C- Series security features are helping us improve that. The hardware design is getting more and more powerful day by day. Whenever Dell releases new things, it is getting compatible with our different types of Gold, Platinum, Intel Xeon, and AMD type of CPUs. Dell PowerEdge C- Series handles L2 and L3 cache capabilities, caching capabilities, memory computing capabilities, and the NVMe RAM type also improves performance. The OS level hardware also has this type of NVMe type of high-speed storage implemented on that hardware. The hardware is getting improved day by day. Dell PowerEdge C- Series storage is used in our data center, but I am not concerned about that because it is not used in my division. Although I am part of that organization, in my division, I am not using that.

Robust product, helped with workload management and offers remote configuration
In this specific model, it could be beneficial to have a server configuration similar to Cisco, like the kind offered in HPE Superdome Flex X280. The ability to separate the chassis is important because we are forced to use two chassis even with lower loads. So introducing more flexibility in the Superdome environment would be helpful. One other problem is energy consumption. We are forced to use both chassis even when we only need, for example, all four processors. It's not always used at full capacity every day. When underutilized, we still need to have both chassis powered, which creates an energy consumption issue. While the machine can be configured to reduce consumption, the idea of having different possible configurations with varying chassis usage, similar to the Flex version, could be interesting for this model, too. This model leverages specific features of the Intel MAP board, so switching like in the Flex might be difficult due to the motherboard switching involved.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a scalable solution."
"The most significant benefits, in my experience, are the configuration, reliability of the equipment, and the support of Dell."
"The scalability of the product is good since it offers high performance and capacity."
"The product's initial setup phase was easy."
"The performance is good."
"It provides the necessary infrastructure for our operations."
"I like the feature that allows for a backup and that is suitable for me."
"The security of the product is very good."
"I like the robustness of the machine. Similar performance could likely be achieved with other configurations, but this machine is very stable."
"One of the really cool things about Superdome is, depending on the model you choose, you can put 8-16 blades in it."
"SDX gave us a very large RAM and we need that for the large-scale graph-handling applications."
"The most valuable features of HPE Superdome X are speed, performance, and resilience."
"This product is very reliable."
"We've got a few of them, because we needed some really large machines. So far, they've been working pretty good."
"Superdome X is a system that can compete in terms of performance and uptime, but it's now standard. That is the great value. There are competitors like IBM, for example, but IBM has a propietary operating system. With Superdome X, you have a system that can run Windows, Red Hat, or VMware, but in a mission critical server."

Cons

"The reliability needs improvement."
"Customer service and support have been generally helpful but can be slow due to the need to navigate different specialists."
"They could automate or simplify it more."
"I am uncertain about the return on investment and whether I have seen a return on investment with Dell PowerEdge C- Series."
"There is some trouble with the stability part of the product, making it an area where improvements are required."
"The need to update the firmware and check if there is any bug in the product is one of the areas where Dell PowerEdge C falls short and needs to make improvements."
"The product’s cost needs improvement."
"The VxRail should be opened to allow other virtualization platforms to be used."
"I know we support Windows and I think it's Red Hat, and I'd like to see more OSs supported."
"HPE Superdome X can improve by adding a lot of cloud capabilities to allow this solution to be cloud-ready in case the customer wants to move it to the cloud."
"What would make it better from my point of view is if HPE spent more time on testing with the actual built-in Red Hat Linux drivers, as opposed to always trying to say, "Use our driver.""

"It would be helpful if you could do the maintenance completely online."
"I'd like to see the onboarding of some storage class memory to really expand the already very large RAM, into something that could be even much bigger."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When we talk about pricing it is the cheapest on the market that I have found."
"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"We buy licenses for the solution's advanced features."
"The price could be reduced."
"PowerEdge C is a product that is priced at a medium range, so it is not too expensive."
"There is a need to pay towards the annual subscription-based licensing model offered by the solution. The product is moderately priced. Price is a critical issue, and it is always good to have moderately priced solutions."
"I don't handle the financial aspects, so I don't know the exact costs, but in terms of the value it brings, it's worth it."
"PowerEdge C is very expensive, but personally, I think it's worth the price."
"The pricing is not very cheap. I would rate the pricing a seven out of ten, with one being very inexpensive, and ten being very expensive."
"There is a very expensive one-time cost with no licensing fees."
