Robust product, helped with workload management and offers remote configuration
In this specific model, it could be beneficial to have a server configuration similar to Cisco, like the kind offered in HPE Superdome Flex X280. The ability to separate the chassis is important because we are forced to use two chassis even with lower loads. So introducing more flexibility in the Superdome environment would be helpful. One other problem is energy consumption. We are forced to use both chassis even when we only need, for example, all four processors. It's not always used at full capacity every day. When underutilized, we still need to have both chassis powered, which creates an energy consumption issue. While the machine can be configured to reduce consumption, the idea of having different possible configurations with varying chassis usage, similar to the Flex version, could be interesting for this model, too. This model leverages specific features of the Intel MAP board, so switching like in the Flex might be difficult due to the motherboard switching involved.

Manage servers efficiently with an integrated view while reducing downtime
My use case is to serve the complete IT environment of the telecom, including all cloud applications. I use HPE Synergy servers for my private cloud and for network management systems. 70% of my workload is running on HPE servers The integrated view, such as managing complete servers and…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Superdome X is a system that can compete in terms of performance and uptime, but it's now standard. That is the great value. There are competitors like IBM, for example, but IBM has a propietary operating system. With Superdome X, you have a system that can run Windows, Red Hat, or VMware, but in a mission critical server."
"In summary, this is a good product and I recommend it."
"HPE Superdome X is a very resilient infrastructure, and stable."
"I like the robustness of the machine. Similar performance could likely be achieved with other configurations, but this machine is very stable."
"I would tell you that if you are looking for a product that can be used by multiple groups especially multiple groups with one point of administration, Superdome is very good."
"If you're looking for a solution where you need a lot of workload and power, it's a great solution."
"The most valuable features of HPE Superdome X are speed, performance, and resilience."
"It's an amazing product, an amazing technology, that has the best of that world: performance and uptime, and standardization."
"Our maintenance and production times have been cut in half over our previous solutions."
"The solution helps us to implement new business requirements quickly, by using the Composer for efficiency, and it has improved the productivity of our development team because we are able to deploy development environments rapidly and have seen about a 25 percent reduction in deployment times."
"It's a fully integrated solution with OneView."
"For me, this is the best frame server technology available in the market. We can compare it to Cisco UCS. It is robust and stable, and it is also easy to deploy and scale. Their support is the best."
"On the previous HPE platform, we struggled because everything was independent. We had to manage firmware on each server, storage and network configuration on each server. Synergy is template-driven so we can ensure consistency of all of those settings. It allows us to standardize configuration and ensure consistency across the board."
"We bought it with the intent to replace the c7000 workstation blades, and it is bigger than the workstation blades in core count, memory, and graphical capabilities, so it has broadened us in that regard, and we have more capabilities."
"This solution has decreased our deployment time by approximately sixty-five percent."
"Its versatility, performance, and size are most valuable. It is very decent for its size. It has very good performance and very good specifications."

Cons

"Looking back to our original purchase of Superdome X, we bought the smallest model."
"There's a big upfront investment, but the total cost of ownership should be cheaper over the long term."
"It would be helpful if you could do the maintenance completely online."
"The price of this product should be cheaper."
"HPE Superdome X can improve by adding a lot of cloud capabilities to allow this solution to be cloud-ready in case the customer wants to move it to the cloud."
"In this specific model, it could be beneficial to have a server configuration similar to Cisco, like the kind offered in HPE Superdome Flex X280. The ability to separate the chassis is important because we are forced to use two chassis even with lower loads. So introducing more flexibility in the Superdome environment would be helpful."
"I know we support Windows and I think it's Red Hat, and I'd like to see more OSs supported."
"I'd like to see the onboarding of some storage class memory to really expand the already very large RAM, into something that could be even much bigger."
"Gen 11 is being released. That's going to have a lot of advantages over Gen 10 and previous generations in terms of the cooling modules in the servers to keep them cooler and run with more efficiency and better performance. There are more management features with iLO 6 and the latest OneView management."
"There is certainly a feature or two missing."
"The post-sales activity needs improvement."
"The main challenge we faced was that when it was installed it just did not work. There were faulty components and it took weeks of troubleshooting to find the faulty components, get them replaced. Getting help from HPE was difficult. Nobody knew about the product. It was a brand-new product and people had not been trained on it. That part was not a great experience."
"Technical support was time consuming and unsatisfactory. The initial product setup was complex, lasing around three weeks to a month."
"The only issue that we had was our rack was too small. The product is heavy, so it took a lot to get it in there."
"The deployment time of a system through OneView is pretty slow, but apparently that's being addressed in an upcoming update."
"I am rating this solution an eight (out of ten) because it is really good. However, you can always improve some things."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is not very cheap. I would rate the pricing a seven out of ten, with one being very inexpensive, and ten being very expensive."
"There is a very expensive one-time cost with no licensing fees."
"We pay about £500 for the solution."
"We are satisfied with its price."
"The solution can be expensive because it requires both hardware and software purchases."
"When we made the purchase of the hardware, we added Professional Services to it."
"The solution has reduced our IT infrastructure costs by 50 percent."
"We outright purchased Synergy."
"There is a perpetual license given when you purchase HPE Synergy."
"The Nutanix platform came in a little more expensive than the Synergy."
