Database Manager at a tech company with 51-200 employees
Provides High Reliability and Data Security
• Data in the datahub refreshes nightly. As the data only refreshes once every day, it is necessary to have to wait for any changes to thesource systems to become available. The daily refresh can be extremely useful for reconciling data. • DataHub only displays details of current members of the Organization. So it has much limited data available for generation of dynamic reports. • DataHub is volatile. The records are completely re-loaded each day. It puts burden on the system. • There are very few summary tables available due to storage of data in a detailed format. • The detailed information is not stored in the DataHub. It is stored in the relevant source system. Only commonly required data is stored within the DataHub.

Manager, SAP Practice at a computer software company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Has consistently provided impressive data handling capabilities and robust security features
Some of the most valuable features of SAP Data Services include data extraction where SAP is the best in that perspective, but when it comes to analytics or the reporting tool, I prefer to connect with Microsoft Power BI, which is a fantastic tool. Typically, from an end-user perspective, SAP has a huge amount of data, in terms of terabytes of data, but when you analyze that, the best form of visualization is always through Microsoft Power BI. SAP Data Services provides a best-in-class return on investment, as SAP's vision and forecast are absolutely amazing. They are ahead of technology, building an ecosystem that meets the standards of the fast-changing digital economy. SAP is indeed good at all this now, with so many components such as SAP Signavio, SAP EINS, SAP Work Zone, SAP ALM, Cloud ALM, SAP public cloud, SAP private cloud, and BTP, all of which are essential to meet the latest cutting-edge technologies.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"All staff members and users can request an account which can be accessed from all PCs on the company’s network."
"The most valuable feature is the ETL functionality."
"The solution's most valuable feature is the scheduling part."
"From my point of view, Dataservices is a good ETL choice if there are SAP systems in the sources or the targets (it can help to make BW transformations much easier)."
"We can extract data at a table level, extract data at the ETL level, and we can extract data at an ODP level."
"It helps our organization and our clients achieve its goals and objectives by having the right information at the right time and at the right people."
"You can always manipulate a lot of things as long as you have the skill level."
"The most valuable feature is the logging capability."
"The fact that it's built on SQL, it makes it easy to write code. The database and the connection are quite smooth."

Cons

"DataHub is volatile; the records are completely re-loaded each day, which puts a burden on the system."
"I want some more business intelligence applications. People need to know more and more about data, including the transformation rules, etc. Informatica is a better product for data cataloging. SAP should update the data catalog."
"The support is poor because of the time and the knowledge of the support team."
"While Data Services performs very well when dealing with relational structures and to a lesser degree with delimited files, there is significant room from improvement with the integration with web services and related data formats (XML, JSON, etc.)."
"Source code control is another headache. When your source code base gets too large, managing the source code becomes cumbersome."
"SAP Data Services should be made a web-based solution."
"The execution engines and processing engines have shortcomings and need improvements."
"We used a different repository for every consultant and it created problems to maintain the final version of each dataflow in every user."
"The migration of the solution between different environments is quite complex."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"At the entry level, if you're using it only for data integration, it is a little bit cheap. However, for large organizations it can be expensive. There are additional costs apart from the license."
"The product’s on-premise version is expensive for a medium-sized company."
"I rate the product price as one or two on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"Speaking about prices, Oracle and SAP are market leaders. So, the prices are more."
