A stable and flexible product that improves development time
The product is very stable and flexible. The product masks data throughout the entire structure. It helps us to work in a differential integrity environment. We conducted testing directly on our production environment in the past, but that’s no longer the case. We can now work with actual data in a production-like setting without production data. The shift to non-production data for testing and development has significantly improved our workflow. Developers can now work with fewer errors when deploying to production. The delivery of new software became faster, and errors significantly decreased. Working with actual data during the development phase allowed us to catch and address issues early rather than encountering them later during acceptance or production.

The manuals should be clearer. There needs to be an online course or tutorial for faster management training. The maintenance was slightly complicated. I had to read the manuals carefully and even failed the Guardium certification exam due to insufficient information or time. Improving the tool learning process would be beneficial.

Pros

"The product is very stable and flexible. The product masks data throughout the entire structure. It helps us to work in a differential integrity environment. We conducted testing directly on our production environment in the past, but that’s no longer the case. We can now work with actual data in a production-like setting without production data. The shift to non-production data for testing and development has significantly improved our workflow."
"The purpose of EBM Guardium is to monitor database activity and who is accessing it. This is the most valuable feature."
"The vulnerability assessment is a valuable feature."
"We used to use cobbled-together scripts, different products and different pieces on different platforms, and this solution automated all that and made it such that the security administrators can run it themselves and not involve us, saving time, money, and people effort."
"We are using it to do a lot of data discovery from a data classification for structured data."
"Being an IBM product it really offers security integration capabilities and robust features. Over the years, it has satisfactory met the requirements of our customers which makes it a very reliable and versatile solution."
"The product has proven to be flexible"
"The investment return was good because IBM Security Guardium Data Protection provided significant security and compliance benefits."
"The ability to collect the data without database administers being able to modify it."

Cons

"We have encountered challenges with different intgrity structures. In my experience, I’ve encountered challenges with implementing business cases. While the product remains stable, translating its use cases can be more complex. This involves both technical and functional considerations."
"The solution could be improved for NoSQL databases."
"Initially, from 32-bit to 64-bit was a nightmare, but the latest 64-bit versions are pretty straightforward."
"It was difficult implementing it, configuring it, getting it up and running and in production."
"Guardium has not saved us time or money."
"Real-time masking is a bit simple and doesn't allow you to create complex masking rules."
"Right now we're having some issues where it's using a high CPU, we don't know why. So, better testing before the product is ready would help."
"Flexibility could be improved."
"We had instability with reports, they were giving some errors."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"IBM InfoSphere Optim Data Privacy's pricing is not expensive. It was less than what we expected. The licensing model for IBM Optim involves a one-time purchase followed by an annual subscription fee. This fee covers ongoing support and access to new versions. However, there are no options for extended or additional support."
"The biggest challenge is the cost associated with the product, and the cost of maintaining. Everything is not translated directly to the benefits we see. There are benefits, yes, but if I were writing the check, would I buy Guardium? No."
"The price of the solution could be better."
"Its cost is good. With the new metric of licensing, such as PDO not being available now, customers are expecting a good price for the solution."
"The product's pricing is reasonable and affordable. It is in the moderate range."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is low price, and ten is very high price, I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."
"It's an expensive solution"
"The tool is not cheap, but it is not expensive."
"It is not an expensive product. We purchase its yearly license."
