Good reporting and interface, but supports limited types of protocols and requires low-level script editing
It should have more interfaces. In terms of interfaces or protocols, what you can do with Rational is far limited as compared to other products out there. What it does, it does great, but it only gives you limited types of protocols. It supports between 8 to 15 types of protocols, whereas other test tools give you 20 to 30 types of protocols with which you can do testing and convert to script. It records Javascript-based scripts, and you got to know a little bit of Java to basically be able to edit them, but the level of editing you got to do is very low. I like that, but the ability to edit the script is not as good as Parasoft or LoadRunner, which have C-Script.

Automated testing optimizes API workflow and collaboration
Since I am using the free tier, one improvement would be to increase the number of requests you can send in a short time period. Currently, if I send 200-300 requests in a short period, Postman Enterprise requires a 30-second wait before sending another bundle of requests unless you upgrade to a higher tier. Secondly, Postman Enterprise sometimes takes several minutes to load the whole workspace. With 2,000-3,000 requests in a workspace, it can take a minute or two to load all requests. When creating a new workspace and moving requests between workspaces, depending on internet speed, it can take a longer period to copy those requests or workspace from one place to another.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This solution provides for API testing, functional UI testing, performance testing, and service virtualization."
"Reporting is pretty good. Its interface is also good. I'm overall pretty happy with the functionality and use of IBM Rational Test Workbench."
"In Postman, we have an option to directly import a call, make it a Postman collection, and execute it in a batch. This feature is very useful. It saves a lot of time. The manual effort is also reduced when we can just pick it in a Postman collection and then run and execute it to get the results."
"Postman is easy to use and enables us to test all possible API testing scenarios."
"It is a scalable solution."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is Collections."
"We use it for REST API testing. Feature-wise, it is pretty lightweight. It is pretty fast, and we don't have to do a lot of things. We can just simply go and post our endpoint, and it gives different kinds of authorizations. We usually use authentication 2.0, which is the most common industry practice. So, it has the support for authorization through 2.0."
"Simple to use and you can easily store your projects."
"Postman uses the DRY framework of JavaScript and that framework is easy and a good way to put assertions on responses."
"The environment variables are a valuable feature because I can easily switch them and see all the developments in different cycles and stages."

"There are a number of things that they can do to simplify the tools, but the most important thing that they need to do is simplify the installation."
"The scalability of the solution can be improved."
"Postman could be improved by providing options for performance testing of APIs."
"They should provide more specific documentation on configuration."
"If there is any way to have a record and playback feature through UI, as we do in Selenium and IDEs such as Eclipse, it would be great."
"Postman does not have a check-in balance. Essentially what I mean by that is if there is something that is already configured on a particular device, it just overrides it without checking whether you really want to override it or not."
"Integration should be improved with our continuation system because we use Azure DevOps separately."
"The management of endpoints' headers sometimes conflicts with APIs that require information in the body, leading to difficulties."
"It should be able to check the records and compare them to the regression testing more on the automation side."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is a little bit on the higher side, although it is really good."
"It doesn't really concern me. Licensing is on a yearly basis."
"I use the tool's free version."
"I am using the free option."
"We are using its free version."
"We are using the free version that is available."
"It is free."
"The solution is open-source and free."
"Its price is moderate as compared to other competitors. The version that we are using is not open source, so it is not free."
"I rate the product's price a nine or ten on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is very expensive. Postman is an expensive tool for Turkey."
