Customizable features streamline installation and integration challenges remain
Our company is a partner of Infor in Germany. We mainly use Infor DEPM for finance solutions Infor DEPM has features that are well-prepared by Infor. I do not need to have my own tools; I only need to customize many elements. This makes it easier to install and work with. With the prepared…

Empower financial planning with user-friendly and robust features
The best features of Oracle Hyperion revolve around their cloud-based technology, which is gradually moving to cloud solutions such as EPMCSG, while Anaplan uses two engines for calculations, the classic engine and the Essbase engine. Anaplan allows for quick module changes, where adjustments in one module reflect throughout the user experience. In contrast, Oracle Hyperion relies on Essbase as a database with calculation scripts and business rules, and it incorporates Smart View technology for Excel connections, providing a familiar interface for users. Oracle Hyperion is fundamentally a good technology and does not require significant improvements compared to other technologies because it is user-friendly and offers several advantages in financial reporting and consolidation. However, I have observed that Anaplan has built-in UX pages for report preparation, unlike Oracle Hyperion, which often relies on third-party tools such as Hyperion Financial Reporting and Power BI for reporting.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I do not need to have my own tools; I only need to customize many elements."
"If you are using only spreadsheets and have to download your data from various sources then you will have to reconcile these to build reports that make sense, this product will improve your life."
"Our customers have the solution deployed on the cloud or on-premises. The deployment took about a month."
"Integration with other software applications is so user friendly and also it's a single ledger designed system."
"All our customers have experienced a return on investment, as they have been included on the list of calls."
"It has given us the ability to not only deliver key reports and metrics, but also to make them available on a self service basis."
"The robustness of the Infocubes, and the possibility of integrating both strong data analysis characteristics with pleasant aesthetic features."
"For planning and consolidation this is a perfect choice."
"Scalability is one of this solution's big plus points."
"We like the reporting and tracking of financials."
"We can integrate with any system and pull data from SAP or SQL Server. We can also design our own role files to establish how we pull the file data and store it in our database."
"Hyperion is helpful for all our budget processes."
"The roll-up potential of the product is very good, meaning we have detailed information and we want it to be summarized, based on geography, based on different product lines, or based on different charts of accounts in the general ledger. It rolls up the information in a very concise way. This makes it easy to understand the overall performance, for it's forecasting aspects, or quarterly reporting, year to year, or month to month reporting."
"Oracle Hyperion is an engine allowing you to build whatever you want on it."
"This product is very scalable and provides high ROI."
"Stable and scalable solution with a valuable data integration feature which allows the slicing and dicing of data. It also has a workforce planning feature that allows you to bring in your HR data."

Cons

"The latest version has been cloud-enabled, but it requires a deeper understanding of programming skills compared to the previous versions, which were more user-friendly."
"Only sometimes, there are server start-up issues."
"It's a very expensive solution."
"The bigger the database with accelerators the more unstable it is, but without accelerators the model would not run."
"The usability could be better."
"The mobile offering and dashboards need work, however this has been improved upon in more recent versions of Infor BI."
"A web-based version would provide greater usability and I believe is still in the development pipeline."
"There are questions about how Infor DEPM can be used with other solutions and the difficulties in connecting it with other software solutions. Integration is a concern."
"As an intuitive, user friendly, GUI application, I would rate it a 4/10."
"We are still having some issues with the ASO Cube. It can take a long time to clear the data in the ASO Cube compared to BSO data-clearing operations. We don't have a specific calculation in the ASO, and we only have these aggregate options on the ASO side. If we need calculations, we have to calculate them in the BSO and pass the data to the ASO Cube for the reporting. That's one of the drawbacks. Oracle could also improve on the data logging side as well."
"The user interface is in need of improvement. The forms should be more user-friendly."
"Occasionally, though, we get issues such as process hangs or something similar, although they're usually known bugs the fixes for which we can find in Oracle support fairly easily."
"Integrating Oracle Hyperion, a multidimensional database, with relational databases poses challenges due to the differing database structures."
"From a technical perspective, the technical support could be improved and the price could be reduced."
"The level of complexity of the implementation is always a challenge."
"The biggest issue we have had for end users was that we lost control of functionality."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's a very expensive product, and I would rate it at nine out of ten, with ten being the most expensive. There are yearly licensing costs."
"While the licensing cost of Infor dEPM may be costly, it is still more affordable than SAP BusinessObjects EPM, for example."
"The pricing is competitive."
"We pay for licensing yearly."
"Compared with MSBA, it is quite reasonable."
"Oracle Hyperion's licensing structures are quite expensive for some companies, especially medium-sized companies because of the user-based license."
"As Oracle's pricing is on the higher end, most businesses prefer to have their own private cloud."
"Oracle Hyperion is not an inexpensive solution."
"The licensing cost for the on-premises version of the solution is too high."
"The solution is affordable."
"The licenses cost approximately $1,000."
