Cloud data catalog has streamlined lineage and quality while leaving more automation to improve
I have not explored IDMC's automation capabilities driven by AI and metadata too much at the moment, but it is on the cards. We are basically creating the foundation, as the whole migration has taken place recently and it is still early days. I think Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) is evolving, and as the vendors move forward, they pick up new concepts from each other. I have seen that products leapfrog each other, and from my experience over the years, the big players tend to copy features or add enhancements based on industry trends. I feel whatever the tool does not have now, there is a feedback loop allowing us to request new features, and we continually ask for different ways to do things as we have a pipeline into the product management team. It is difficult to say what additional features I would prefer to see in the next release of IDMC. I would appreciate more automation on the lineage front, with more AI to seamlessly join independent sources and create seamless lineage between different technologies, such as from file into database A into a different database and landing up in a reporting system such as Cognos, Qlik, Qlik Sense, QlikView, or Power BI.

A solution that offers good performance, good stability, and a straightforward setup
We are a reseller of the solution. We handle on-premises deployment. The solution is very similar to IBM. It may have a bit more integration capabilities that IBM doesn't have yet, but they are similar. In terms of which would be better, it would come down to the customer's requirements. I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. All of our customers are very happy and very impressed with the product.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I give the stability a ten out of ten."
"Axon has something called Overlay, which can be used to extend the technical lineage."
"The best part about the Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) is the modularity; when I say modularity, I mean the things get easier by working into different modules."
"Single and consistent view of Customer Data arising from a centralized data set with unique customer records."
"It has improved the customer data management where we had the incorrect addresses and data cleansing, also in finding the duplicates so as to ensure the customer data is not duplicated."
"It's got a reputation in the industry as one of the best solutions for master data management. So, it's what we see in the Gartner top right quadrant as the best product in that space."
"The most valuable feature of Informatica Cloud Data Integration is Pushback. You are able to push the data to the solution itself, and it can handle the queries. It helps us a lot. With other tools, the burden is kept on the server."
"The feature that allows me to search across the entire organizational database and then look through what objects are in which tables and which locations is quite handy."
"With regards to choosing flash versus traditional storage, it's just so much simpler to manage and users get so much better performance from flash."

Cons

"Asia pacific region address validation needs to be improved."
"I definitely will not recommend Informatica Cloud Data Quality because it's very hard to manage the licensing model and the price is very high."
"When we compared Informatica to SAP, we realized that we lose the ability to integrate easily with our SAP business applications"
"Informatica MDM has limitations with connectivity."
"The major area of improvement is its GUI front end."
"New machine learning could be added to Informatica MDM because the solution is outdated and is not moving with the current trends. The solution is good, but it definitely needs a lot of improvement and needs to speed up as per the market."
"One thing to consider is that while Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services already integrates with AI platforms, we need to use these tools rigorously and check all these aspects, including machine learning and analytics. I feel that more work needs to be done on this aspect."
"Performance issues can be looked at Improved release documentation is expected because I feel that the current release document doesn't give you the clear picture of what has been fixed and what has not been fixed from previous versions."
"The pricing model could use improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The platform has a premium cost. I rate the pricing as seven out of ten."
"Informatica MDM is a costly solution because it comes as a bundle. They are also globally positioning themselves and are definitely working on very upgraded technologies. If someone wanted to do it on the cloud, they have a lot of flexibility because they upgrade themselves according to the current needs. It definitely comes with a lot of features and that's the reason why it's costly. The licensing cost should be approximately one million dollars. It's about four to five times that of other vendors."
"Cost-wise, I think it is on the higher side, and that is why we are looking for some better options. Licensing costs are huge compared to other players in the market and for my company."
"Pricing is determined by the number of licensed users as well as the number of Core CPUs."
"It's pretty high for us. It's more on the higher side, like low to middle high."
"So, there are plans for licensing. There are subscription-based and usage-based licenses. Also, there are licenses for exceptional analytics, etc. In short, there are different models of licensing for every enterprise."
"it's expensive, but if you're looking for a stable solution, Informatica MDM is a good one to choose."
"I rate the product's pricing a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive."
