Previously, we were using a very small ERP called Visual Udyog. Visual Udyog is a very cheap solution. For a startup company, it's useful. It's not an elaborate ERP, but it gives at least 25% of what IQMS gives. It can give 25% or even close to 50% of what IQMS can give and at 10% of the cost. Initially, for the first five years of the company, where it has only one million turnover or two million turnover, it is enough. Once you want to scale up, you have to go to SAP or IQMS. I also worked with SAP. I would say that IQMS and SAP go hand-in-hand.

Long-term adaptation and evolution meets changing technology trends
SAP ERP is not really real-time. We use the HANA database which is supposed to be memory data in memory, but we are still not very happy. It is supposed to be real-time and come very quickly, but in reality, it still takes time to run. That is why we use BW of SAP, Business Objects, and now we have moved to the Analytic Cloud where we start using predictive AI. SAP recently implemented Databricks, and they started investing significantly in the analytic environment. SAP ERP has been left behind as they moved to S/4HANA with the HANA database. They restructured the whole table structure of SAP ERP, introduced simple finance, simple logistics, and moved HR to SuccessFactors. They have the BTP layer where they manage everything from integration to master data management. The challenge with SAP is that they move very fast to different products and buy different products. It requires significant investment and many skills to catch up because all of these have different sets of technology. The fundamental has changed differently. It is not monolithic anymore but different products under one name, SAP. You have to buy it model by model for additional models. Products such as SuccessFactors, Ariba for procure to pay, Concur for travel, and Facility Management use totally different technology. They try to integrate with each other, but it remains a challenge for SAP to make them have the same management, technology, and operational approach.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"This solution has all of the features you need: sales, distribution, supply chain. It has logistics and production management capabilities. It has so many modules, which were integrated using our expertise."
"Finance, Controlling, Material management, and Plant maintenance are valuable features, especially the integration between the various components."
"Everyone who uses SAP ERP has benefited from the functionality."
"This product is very scalable and easy to expand."
"It is a stable solution."
"The most valuable features of SAP ERP are that its robust, user-friendly, and secure."
"The most valuable feature is the robust workflows that SAP provides to us in our organization, and overall, I find it the best ERP solution compared to other similar solutions."
"The Material Management and Sales and Distribution modules are great, and the Financial Accounting module is also great."
"The solution is scalable."

Cons

"It was very complex, which is why it took us so long."
"Setup is very complex."
"I'm only working on the front end with ERP's user interface, which isn't very easy for end-users. It's an old-school interface, so it's often challenging to find what you need."
"I think that implementation could be simplified."
"Functionality could be improved."
"Although you can use SAP as a Warehouse Management System, and you don’t need any other program for that purpose, it is not enough as a Transportation Management System. You need another program which is integrated with SAP."
"The setup is difficult so implementation consultants are needed."
"The user interface could be improved. For example, sometimes you're missing some data and can't complete a task. There should be some built-in support and suggestions on how to solve your problem. I would also like the interface to be optimized to work better with mobile devices like tablets and smartphones."
"The service could be more user-friendly in the area of transition codes."
"There will always be something within our business that it won't fit."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We paid about 20% with the purchase order. Six months later, we paid another 20%, and then another 20% after another six months. We paid the remaining 40% after 18 months."
"I rate the product's price a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive. SAP ERP is a costly tool."
"SAP is a bit on the costly side, but they also provide support and other things. We are paying for licenses and the use of the cloud."
"The solution can cost approximately $1 million a year for maintenance for a small-size company and can grow from there. Approximately $1 million is needed for a good-size company."
"The solution has moved from a licensing model to a rights-based, subscription model in the cloud."
"SAP ERP is an expensive tool."
"The solution is expensive so I rate cost a five out of ten."
"It is less expensive than its competitors."
"The product has high pricing."
