A stable solution that can be used for data discovery, but it should include more tutorials for new users

Microsoft Power BI has many features and there is not a lot to improve. However, the licensing can be confusing. When deciding between Pro and Premium, I find it difficult to distinguish what features are offered by Pro and what features are offered by Premium, including the particular differences to choose between both licensing models. Additionally, some features such as DAX, which I mentioned previously, involve DAX calculations and complex data modeling, which are somewhat advanced and not easily understandable. Prior knowledge is required or you need to go through the documentation. If the documentation is made comprehensive so that anyone with no knowledge on DAX can easily use it by going through the documentation, it would be really helpful. Additionally, if the integration with non-Microsoft tools is improved and performance is optimized, then Microsoft Power BI can become a top-ranked visualization tool. The user experience with Microsoft Power BI is quite good. The intuitive user interface makes it easy for both technical and non-technical users to create reports. However, only the advanced features are somewhat complex, and if the documentation is improved, it can be easily accessible.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features of Kyvos are reconciliation and its ability to query big data."
"It is quite easy to use and it helps me to achieve the projects that I've been assigned."
"The best feature of this solution is the way you can plan, communicate, and visualize all the knowledge you extract from the data for the customers. I like the way you can show or visualize the information a client needs to answer a business question."
"The initial setup is simple to do."
"One of the most valuable features of Power BI is the ease of use; it is comfortable and there is not a steep learning curve for this solution, and if you have some idea of the data and basic visualization ideas, you can use this solution comfortably."
"There is also a chart store where we can download charts, which is extremely useful."
"Power BI stands out because it provides considerable flexibility in creating reports, dashboards, and various types of analytics to meet those dynamic requirements. It is lightweight and easy to use with good support."
"So far, this product has met our needs pretty well."
"The stability is good."

Cons

"Since I couldn't find any tutorials or a handbook, I had some initial difficulty understanding the UI and the whole interface of Kyvos."
"I would like for there to be some type of user manual that shows steps on how to navigate the solution."
"Regarding drawbacks or weak points in Microsoft Power BI, it may not be directly related to the tool itself, but with our architecture, as we couldn't get a service account, which is an email address that has no relationship with the employees, just to establish the connection with Anaplan."
"The only concern I have faced with Microsoft BI is the time it takes to find out an issue and rectify it."
"What you get with Power BI is that you start to find that even simple stuff requires a lot of gymnastics to achieve because there's no in-built, straightforward feature for it and you need to come up with a workaround."
"One thing I would like to have is the scripting language, as they already have within Excel. It's already within a Microsoft business product, because Excel is the number one business product out there. So it would be nice to have the scripting capability in order to automate certain processes."
"The solution needs better technical support."
"A lot of people work on Excel, so being able to export an Excel file as part of a subscription would be an improvement."
"The solution's documentation needs improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"I would rate the pricing an eight out of ten, with one being cheap and ten being expensive."
"As far as I am aware you do not need a license for the solution."
"We have a premium Power BI license in-house that's quite an expensive license. It's $10 a month for four users and then I think 35,000 at the premium rate."
"MS BI comes with all the tools and it is, to the best of my knowledge, the most affordable solution."
"Microsoft BI for desktop is free to use, and you can download and use it."
"The price of the license can be better."
"Its price is very low. It is like $10 per user, per month. The clients pay for their own licenses. It is not on us. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees. That's the beauty. With other systems, you need to spend a couple of thousand dollars just to get started, and then you need to spend $500 per year for the license, which becomes much more costly. You have a system here where for $120 to $140 a year, you can start with two people and start developing and deploying. You can see why the cost difference is huge, especially when you are on a low scale, like us, and you're not building something very huge."
"They have a free Power BI Desktop version, but it has limitations."
