Has the ability to have a single-pane-of-glass using the VMware interface but it needs better support
The product helped improve the way our organization functions starting with our hiring practices. We do not have to have a storage engineer or other engineering specialists. So, for example, I had a budget to get someone for a security engineer position of $120,000 a year. In the end, after talking to several local people in my industry, they just told me that security guys will come in and then somebody will offer them $5,000 more and they will just go where the money is. So I went with a third party called the Arctic Wolf Networks to do all my monitoring of my Office 365 environments, all of our servers, collect all the logs, and get all the services I needed from one source that would be consistent. This way, I can hire just general networking engineers and they can run everything. I do not have to have special employees and the benefits of that flexibility are pretty great. With the solution, you can swap out a drive for a larger capacity drive. You can lose a couple of drives and everything still runs. You can lose the server and it is self-healing and you can schedule maintenance around events. But I do not have to have staffing 24-hours a day because we do not have outages. That is probably the biggest thing. Meanwhile, in another part of the network that I am currently taking over from the global holding company, they have outages all the time. Sometimes it is due to a network failure or sometimes it is just poor engineering practices and standards. Over there we just set up to large servers and a couple of data centers using the VxRail system, which is like vSAN, so it is pretty similar stuff to our current setups but just uses other products.

Experience improved integration and cost-efficiency while facing support challenges
The best features of VxRail are its compatibility with VMware, its hyper-converged solution capabilities, and its single line of support. These are the most beneficial aspects of VxRail. I switched from the previous HP solution to Dell solution because it was a good decision. With HP servers, we dealt with a vendor for the compute servers, another vendor for the storage servers, and another vendor for the networking, which required us to manage multiple vendors. Now, we have a single team who can handle VxRail and a single line of support. We don't need anything other than that, and these are the differences we noticed after we switched.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I think my favorite feature is the ability to have a single-pane-of-glass using the VMware interface."
"The single-pane-of-glass VMware interface makes configuration and management easy so you do not need IT specialists."
"Customers can get many benefits with utilizing VxRail and all the innovations that are coming up, specifically being able to move VxRail workloads into the various public cloud solutions."
"Everything that a company needs can be found on VxRail."
"The solution has simplified our operations."
"This solution, on the other hand, does not need heavy system maintenance; people prefer to use the system rather than the desktop, which makes it convenient for them to work from anywhere."
"There is a single vendor with the hardware, software, and maintenance. Thus, there is a single vendor with whom we can contact."
"The technical support from Dell was very good."
"The most valuable feature in the VxRail solution is the software that binds the management portal and its ease of use of managing the environment. The guys don't have to worry about getting multiple solutions specialist. You can have one person looking at and managing the whole environment."
"By going with the VxRail and full speed of VCM and VCF, it's a much greater investment and creates a greater flexibility and scalability for the customer."

Cons

"A new company took over the product and now the support for Maxta has gone way downhill."
"The support of Maxta has a lot of room for improvement. It was good before the company closed and sold out, but the level of service has changed."
"Deployment was not initially straightforward for us. We had an incompatibility issue that was very difficult for Dell Professional Service to solve."
"It still has some maturity to grow. It needs to be more tightly integrated with its own family of products. It has shown that it is open with the other products within the market, through its stack, but it needs to have the proof in the market (with use-cases), and it has to have the scalability with the integration."
"The SCL database sends out a warning and you have to download the adjacent file from the Dell website. You have to upload it and retest it."
"During upgrades, some aspects get broken, requiring us to follow up with the VMware team to fix them."
"It would be an improvement if VxRail could be integrated with some other hypervisors and not just with VMware."
"The major issue with VxRail is the razoring process, which can only be performed by Dell."
"Technically speaking, the vCenter and the administration of the integration of the vCenter could be improved."
"I would like to see integration with vCenter if possible."

"The solution can be pricey depending on the project."
"The price could be lower."
"The tool is expensive."
"At about $200,000, this solution is a little bit pricey but it is more economical than others such as Nutanix or Cisco Hyperflex."
"It's a highly expensive solution"
"Licensing and price for this solution is reasonable."
"There is a permanent vSAN license included since it is required, but vCenter\ESXi host licensing should be validated in the purchase process."
