Has the ability to have a single-pane-of-glass using the VMware interface but it needs better support
The product helped improve the way our organization functions starting with our hiring practices. We do not have to have a storage engineer or other engineering specialists. So, for example, I had a budget to get someone for a security engineer position of $120,000 a year. In the end, after talking to several local people in my industry, they just told me that security guys will come in and then somebody will offer them $5,000 more and they will just go where the money is. So I went with a third party called the Arctic Wolf Networks to do all my monitoring of my Office 365 environments, all of our servers, collect all the logs, and get all the services I needed from one source that would be consistent. This way, I can hire just general networking engineers and they can run everything. I do not have to have special employees and the benefits of that flexibility are pretty great. With the solution, you can swap out a drive for a larger capacity drive. You can lose a couple of drives and everything still runs. You can lose the server and it is self-healing and you can schedule maintenance around events. But I do not have to have staffing 24-hours a day because we do not have outages. That is probably the biggest thing. Meanwhile, in another part of the network that I am currently taking over from the global holding company, they have outages all the time. Sometimes it is due to a network failure or sometimes it is just poor engineering practices and standards. Over there we just set up to large servers and a couple of data centers using the VxRail system, which is like vSAN, so it is pretty similar stuff to our current setups but just uses other products.

Streamline management and integration with seamless upgrades
The primary reasons customers choose VxRail include ease of management, ease of upgrades, and integration with VMware. The hyper-converged infrastructure simplifies software and hardware upgrades. Customers prefer the single pane of glass management and integration with VMware, which makes it easier for them to proceed with decisions involving VMware products.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The single-pane-of-glass VMware interface makes configuration and management easy so you do not need IT specialists."
"The support has been excellent, especially if you compare it to IBM."
"The scalability of VxRail is very good."
"The major advantage is the blueprint. You do not need to separately manage the sand or network part because it all gets virtualized."
"A valuable feature of the solution is that it allows everything to be integrated into a single model, comprised of hardware and software."
"When we have a resource contention, we can easily increase the capacity."
"One beneficial feature is that the solution can handle complex environments."
"Depending on your architecture type, it's simple to manage and implement VxRail compared to other solutions. That's why most of our customers use it."
"Enterprise is a complete solution that includes performance, backups and disaster recovery."

Cons

"A new company took over the product and now the support for Maxta has gone way downhill."
"The technical support team must improve the quality of responses."
"One challenge customers face with VxRail is the high cost of scalability. The price is higher if they want to add memory or capacity after purchasing the tool for three or five years. Each drive and RAM module is licensed separately, making the architecture costly. It would benefit Dell to review this licensing model and make it more cost-effective and flexible for customers."
"The solution is vendor-locked and Dell is the only supplier of VxRail."
"VxRail could be easier to set up. It's tricky to configure the network properly and match the requirements."
"During upgrades, some aspects get broken, requiring us to follow up with the VMware team to fix them."
"I would like an easier migration. This way, if a node fails like it did, the data would have been migrated and I would not have had to get up at three in the morning."
"They should have better compatibility with other processors, such as AMD processors."
"At present, VxRail is a hyperconverged state of the art product being installed in a legacy way. We need hyperconverged install teams."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The license is a bundle with the hardware. It comes with the license and five-year support."
"We most likely pay yearly for support. The cost was justified by now because it stays up and I don't have to constantly open tickets. I probably rebooted the system once or twice. We haven't replaced any discs in the storage, we haven't had to do any disc replacements, so it just runs. You pay a little more but you cut down on the maintenance."
"We pay for annual support from VxRail."
"When compared with others, the price is very reasonable."
"I do not believe that the price should be lower, as I feel it to be reasonable."
"The hardware cost associated is a bit high"
"Be mindful of your storage needs now and for the future."
"VxRail is still more expensive than its competitor solutions."
