A simple and intuitive tool that provides more features than other tools in the market
The solution can be used to model customer journeys and business processes I use the solution for my customers to model banking products. I also model and define business capability. The biggest value of the product is that we can use it to work in different industries like government,…

Efficient documentation generation through organized model structure with a good price-performance ratio
Whenever I begin a new project with Sparx, I have to spend time training people on how to use it since it is not straightforward. Although it's a powerful product with plenty of features, it's not easy for even experienced users to find their way without guidance. This is not the most user-friendly solution.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The tool is very simple and intuitive to use."
"We have many use cases for this solution but the feature I have found most valuable is the IT Portfolio Management module."
"It is very interactive."
"It generates friendly websites and presents specific views of the enterprise (business, functional, applicative, technological, and infrastructure)."
"This is a complete package with all of the functionality that we need."
"The solution is scalable. If a company needs to expand it, it's completely possible to do so."
"HOPEX has a panel that offers various views. I think that is very good. MEGA has an app for integrating with a lot of apps. We help our clients integrate HOPEX with a different product like Apple Gateway, for example. I've been with the company for 15 years, and we connect with everything. Our clientele includes almost all of the banks in Mexico."
"As a data governance leader, I am looking to understand the capabilities of Mega for data governance, such as data awareness, business glossary, data catalog, and some business rules or management."
"We use it to develop and maintain the Enterprise Conceptual Model, migrated from erwin a couple of years ago."
"It's like a repository. So far, we use it only for Information Modelling."
"The features I find most valuable is the ability to create a document and then put it into a OneCare artifact."
"Sparx offers good flexibility."
"Its ease of use and the breadth of the toolkit are most valuable. It has an incredible repository of artifacts to work with, and they're all cross-referenced. It works with a whole bunch of different standards. It works with BPMN, which is Business Process Modeling Notation, and it also works with something called TOGAF, which is the Open Group Architecture Foundation. There are different layers when you're dealing with architecture. There is the user interface, application, data, data servers, and all that kind of stuff. You have the infrastructure, hardware, and software layers, and then you have the application and business capability layers. You can model a business process and decompose it into all of the applications, data, and hardware to support it."
"The solution is easy to use, supports SysML and UML, and is able to connect to MATLAB. This is very important for us."
"Its ability to reference and link to components from any diagram."
"Some of the business processes are very easy to compare when you have the diagrams."

Cons

"The training materials and learning process need improvement."
"MegaHOPEX lacks comprehensive features that a governance tool should have, particularly in data governance. Furthermore, I have doubts about how risk management and other modules are connected to work together efficiently."
"The data layer might be the weakest point for MEGA HOPEX."
"The tool's UI should be more user-friendly."
"We would like to see integration with other products, such as being able to use our workflow with SharePoint and Microsoft Office."
"I would like to see more regular updates released."
"I cannot recall coming across any missing features."
"Scalability can be a problem sometimes."
"When collaborating with other people, it needs to be more user-friendly."
"The automatic creation of reports based on the model elements could be improved."
"The product could be improved in terms of its ease of use and documentation. While it offers a lot of functionality, it can be difficult to grasp how to utilize these features effectively."
"In a future release, they should improve portfolio planning."
"I would like it to be less of a general tool. Currently, it is not a Swiss army knife that can do everything. It is not specialized for our purposes. We are a civil engineering company. We build things. We work mostly in what is known as Infra world in the Netherlands, which comprises objects such as bridges, locks, and water management. We would like to see more focus on such types of projects. It would be nice if it has more specializations. At the moment, it is very generic, and you have to create everything yourself. Our focus is more on user requirement management, which is currently very basic. I would like to see a lot more functionality in this area. Its basic functions for adding user requirements are perfect, but we need more features. Currently, it has limited possibilities for our requirements. I would also like to see better contract management and have it managed in a certain way."
"Using EA involves a steep learning curve if you want to understand its capabilities and functionality."
"Its usability needs to be improved. For non-technical users, it is a little difficult to understand how Enterprise Architect works. Users who are not engineers find it difficult to understand how this tool works. This is something they need to work on. They can develop a BPM model to simulate processes."
"Weak in regards to data modelling. No logical or physical modelling or migration from conceptual to physical."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product has a high cost."
"It is very expensive."
"The price of the MEGA HOPEX license could improve, it is expensive. The license key for business process analysis and IT architecture is approximately €10,000. This price is fixed, it's not a subscription or cloud-based version. It is a one-time price."
"The price of the support depends on the vendors that are reselling this module or the MEGA HOPEX version 5. We are on premium support and are their only partners in the GCC, we have a premium support contract with them. The support we have is not with the client. The client does not bear the cost, it's us who bear the cost."
"I've been told that MEGA HOPEX is very expensive, which is why small organizations dismiss the tool. It's complex and costly versus other simpler and cheaper solutions."
"The tool is relatively expensive."
"If you want to use additional features, such as the Risk Management capability, then it is a little too expensive."
"The pricing depends on the number of licenses purchased."
"The licence has a costly upfront fee which gets you access. You have to pay an annual maintenance fee, which is less."
"In terms of cost, Sparx EA is probably one of the cheapest tools I have ever used."
"The license I use is on-premise. We haven't gone to the cloud where we have to pay monthly or something like that. Sparx is cheaper than most similar tools."
"I use my own license. So, I just bought the professional version, which costs $800 or something like that. In the company where I am working, we have floating licenses. They are probably more expensive. Its licensing is affordable, but we are talking about a large organization, and there could be modelers or viewers of the models. We don't know how much that would cost us."
"Licenses are pretty low cost compared to, for example, ARIS."
"Enterprise licensing is competitive. What would be helpful if they load the pricing for consultants, you know, people who are consultants for clients. So the license is fine for end-user organizations. Still, they should consider lowering the license to support this adoption, particularly for people who are consultants like myself."
"It is cheaper than other solutions. Its cost is around $686 per year. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten."
