Efficient documentation generation through organized model structure with a good price-performance ratio
Whenever I begin a new project with Sparx, I have to spend time training people on how to use it since it is not straightforward. Although it's a powerful product with plenty of features, it's not easy for even experienced users to find their way without guidance. This is not the most user-friendly solution.

Innovation in diagramming has streamlined complex UML tasks
Visual Paradigm allowed me to create UML diagrams efficiently. The tool was smarter than other tools in terms of remembering the connections between components on the screen. For example, in other drawing programs, if I moved a box, I had to move the arrow, but Visual Paradigm handled those tasks automatically. This made it much quicker than using other tools like Visio or MagicDoor.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The company has become more efficient and reduced its budget."
"It's a very practical solution; you don't need to do an advanced course to start using this tool and it offers great intricacy so you can really do many kinds of models."
"However, it works."
"The solution is easy to use, supports SysML and UML, and is able to connect to MATLAB. This is very important for us."
"Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect is used by our architects to put out artifacts, collaborate, work together, and share those artifacts."
"The most valuable feature is the integrated data model, so if I change the name of an item, all models using that object are automatically updated."
"It provides good utilization and it's a convenient tool for building exact architectural work."
"Flexibility Open DB."
"The most valuable feature of the Visual Paradigm that I use is process modeling. Additionally, the solution has a complete set of features."
"The solution is the best application for data modeling. It helps to architect business processes. Its best features are pricing and functionality."
"It is a scalable solution since it can be used at an individual level as well as for enterprise-sized businesses."
"One tool for everything which provides all the features you need for an Enterprise Architecture and Solution Architecture."
"Visual Paradigm is modern because of its UX, it gives a very good user experience, and has more models."
"I guess the most valuable feature is that I find it easy-to-use and understand its data modeling structure and user interface."
"As integration goes, the Suite works wonders when you bounce from coding to document redaction (producing the sets needed of UML), because you just need to translate from one to another, given your programs of coding allows it, like Eclipse ( /products/eclipse-luna ) does."
"It is easy and intuitive to use, not excessively rigid, and quite flexible."

Cons

"Inconsistent UI elements must be tidied up with the toolbox gaps removed."
"I would rate EA as a 5/10 as an "Enterprise Architecture" requirements platform, mainly as it lacks the ability to lock specific objects, object types to specific users or user groups."
"This solution has some limitations from a business perspective."
"There were scalability issues. The HTML generation with very large models, over 4000 diagrams, can be problematic."
"When the model is large, it is a bit slow to render."
"It would be nice to have it supported on the Linux operating system."
"We miss an integration tool like ARCSeeker which is intended to register elicited elements in a common repository with all their associations (this was removed last year)."
"If you are using Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect as an individual contributor, then it's not a great choice."
"I would like to see the ability to easily export to groupware, such as Atlassian Confluence."
"There is room for improvement in the licensing model. I would suggest implementing country-specific pricing, as many other products in India do. This would make Visual Paradigm more affordable and accessible."
"For me, what needs improvement in Visual Paradigm is the limited features included in the $99 license, which is the cheapest option. If more features could be included in the cheapest licensing package, Visual Paradigm would be better, especially for businesses that have a limited budget for buying software."
"Visual Paradigm's initial deployment was difficult since we did it for the first time. It is challenging to learn to use the product."
"I was looking to generate code from the diagrams, but it was not totally clear how to do it."
"The other thing that needs improvement is pricing."
"Visual Paradigm is much better now. But each project has its own challenges, which is why I'm exploring different tools for my new projects. For instance, designing reports can be tough, especially with the costly intervention of professional services from vendors."
"It's still early for me to comment since I've only been using it for two months, but the responsiveness when diagramming needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have an annual license, and it's very affordable."
"Pricing and licensing is very attractive, simple, and straightforward."
"Its price is very good for the value that you get with it."
"It's affordable. The only additional cost that we haven't yet figured out is the floating license. If you buy a floating license, you have to have a license management server, which comes at an additional cost that's not discussed. So, we haven't yet used the floating license. That’s because I haven't had a chance to figure that out."
"It is cheaper than other solutions. Its cost is around $686 per year. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"I think our license costs roughly $1,000 a year, but I could be wrong."
"The licence has a costly upfront fee which gets you access. You have to pay an annual maintenance fee, which is less."
"The license I use is on-premise. We haven't gone to the cloud where we have to pay monthly or something like that. Sparx is cheaper than most similar tools."
"Over the years I've seen an increase in price, and it makes it difficult for a single person company, like me, to decide whether to extend the license."
"You can move between the tiers from month to month so you are not restricted to one pricing model."
"This is an open-sourced solution, it is free to use."
"I rate the pricing a three on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
"In terms of pricing, I find Visual Paradigm's subscription services reasonable, especially for the modern and standard editions. However, the premium products can be a bit pricey, especially considering our location in the Middle East. Currently, paying around a hundred dollars per user translates to almost six hundred Egyptian pounds, which can add up. For enterprise licensing, I think the perpetual license option could be more affordable. If it were cheaper, say around five hundred dollars, I would have invested in multiple perpetual licenses long ago. Sometimes, to manage costs, we share accounts among team members or switch access on and off for certain members who aren't actively working on projects. As for additional costs, there are charges for cloud services, which I'm considering because I've already exceeded the free capacity."
"This product is fairly cheap, but if you want more complex features, e.g. integration with other products, it does require an additional cost."
"Compared to other solutions such as IBM Rational which is expensive, This solution is priced low."
"Visual Paradigm costs $99 per license. I chose the cheapest option from the pricing list."
