Monitoring solution provides comprehensive visibility across IT infrastructure
The good thing about Nagios Core is it covers everything. Everything in the IT domain, you can monitor anything. You can even monitor printers, the ports of printers, Core workstations, and storage. You can monitor the workflow Core and the utilization of computes. If you want to grasp everything of your IT equipment on a single interface, you can use Nagios. It's the best one. It provides dashboards, and you can also configure your emails and alerts with it. If something is critical, you can configure it to notify via emails. It has a very handy dashboard, providing live alerts and visibility for everything.

IP address management improves network efficiency but licensing cost could decrease
We are using SolarWinds for NPM and NCM, and we use IP address management for IP address monitoring. It helps us track which IP address is live and which is not. It also provides DHCP reservation and allows us to declare IP addresses for our integration. We have been using it for IP address…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Inspite of this limitation it is a fantastic product to use at zero cost"
"Other products are good but from the configuration point of view Nagios is really very lightweight. The price is really good in my opinion. Another important thing is that my Nagios engine still works with Dual core 8GB ram for the last 10 years."
"It sends alerts to the right people which ensures there is no delay in the correct person or team looking into issues, and it has helped to reduce downtime in the production environment to almost zero so we now spend less time on network or server administration."
"Nagios is able to minimize server downtime and this in turn helps to generate more revenue."
"The scalability of Nagios Core is very good, we can add as many hosts as we like, and we can work with the concept master and client, making it very scalable and easy to use."
"Using Nagios, I'm managing more than 1000 services, which involves the following operating nodes: IBM AIX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, HP-Unix, Windows enterprise-grade OS, Cisco router/switches, FortiGate and WatchGuard firewalls, APC UPS systems, and many more."
"The reporting structure and the feature set are valuable to me."
"We use the product to monitor server applications."
"The most valuable feature is the availability of end devices."
"The initial setup is very straightforward and it is easy to add nodes."
"IPAM is used for IP address reservation and tracking, helping us easily identify live IP addresses."

Cons

"When compared to earlier versions, it looks like 4.x has lost the statusmap.cgi module."
"Making it a little easier to configure and set up from the start would help. There are multiple layers that you have to wade through to be able to set it up, to do it the right way, and to get it to do what you want it to do."
"Bandwidth monitoring is the pain point for me because Nagios Core does not monitor bandwidth effectively like Cacti does."
"The core version is no match for the XI version."
"I would like to see a much better Nagios Manager GUI that can support all type of configuration items, and advance search options."
"Lessening the price point would be an improvement."
"I would like to see a sensor that shows the traffic of a user and what they're doing on the network."
"Application level monitoring is limited."
"The licensing cost is high compared to open source tools."
"The solution does not include enough features and has some performance issues."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The Nagios Core (PNP4Nagios + Core) is free and can be setup by Netadmin within a few hours. The only additional cost is the cloud server."
"The solution is expensive."
"We are using the open-source, unpaid version."
"The enterprise version has technical support. The version we are using is free."
"Nagios Core is a cheap solution."
"It's free."
"We are using the free version."
"Lessening the price point would be an improvement."
"The solution is a bit expensive because the annual license does not include new features that are priced as add-ons."
