Monitoring has improved bandwidth insights and application diagnosis but setup and costs still need work
They need room for improvement about the spare parts. There are shortages in Egypt in their stock. We tried to make RMA for specific parts, and it took a long time. Comparing this to a vendor like Cisco, who provides any component next business day, NETSCOUT nGeniusONE took a long time. This needs more improvement. I believe it is expensive. They need to reduce its budget a little bit. Comparing to other solutions, it is very expensive.

Unified monitoring has improved hybrid visibility and automates threat detection across our network
There are definitely areas for improvements in ThreatSync NDR, as no product is perfect. Its effectiveness depends on proper network visibility, so if important traffic segments are not mirrored or monitored, detection may be incomplete. Regarding improvements needed, ThreatSync NDR can definitely work on the user interface because it is currently a bit complex, and security teams sometimes find it unfamiliar with the behavioral analytics. If they can make it more user-friendly, that would help. Regarding ThreatSync NDR's AI capabilities, I think its governance and security are not fully enabled. While AI-assisted threat detections are there, it still requires significant improvements. However, the positive aspect is that it has significantly reduced the manual tasks and work of the security personnel.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"When we have mobile operators who are signal partners, where one is the roaming host and another is the roamer, we are able to see their traffic. Their packets are able to detect if any faults to develop, and at what point they fail."
"It has helped with the operations teams, who have been able to collect information and troubleshoot with the application."
"nGenius provides us with increased visibility during IT deployments."
"The product is very good. We have very few problems."
"The quick drill-down views are similar to Wireshark views. Those are quite nice, with the views on how you interpret some of the data. The granularity of how far you can drill down into milliseconds or microseconds is a very nice feature. It actually stores quite a lot of data in its database."
"The product is very good, we have very few problems, and if we do have any issues, NETSCOUT gives us very good support with the right engineers who know the issues and provide an RMA if anything is wrong with a device."
"The valuable features include packet analysis, packet capture, and [that] it's easy to use."
"The ability of the dashboards is useful for discover, mapping and understanding of application behaviour."
"ThreatSync NDR is a strong addition to our company's security architecture."
"Implementing ThreatSync+ NDR has influenced our business significantly as it provides enhanced security and saves several hours daily by eliminating manual log reviews."

Cons

"A lot of tools highlight what's going on but they don't actually pinpoint the user experience. It would be good if there were a small message or something highlighting what the user experience is like and any degradation that's actually occurring."
"The solution could do more for security. It should offer more security-related features."
"It would be beneficial to see more AI capabilities included in nGeniusONE to further streamline processes and allow lower-level tech support to handle issues more effectively without escalating them."
"I think it could have an easier to understand interface."
"I would love to have them reassemble fragmented packets. That would be a very big plus in my book."
"I would like to see improvements made to the user guide."
"NETSCOUT nGeniusONE is a complex product since it deals in areas like network packet brokers and packet analysis, making the tool complicated for end users."
"Whilst Citrix could be handled better like their nGenius product line (which does an excellent job) it copes with the centralised type of deployment TruView covers."
"There are definitely areas for improvements in ThreatSync NDR, as no product is perfect. Its effectiveness depends on proper network visibility, so if important traffic segments are not mirrored or monitored, detection may be incomplete."
"After using ThreatSync+ NDR for about a year, areas for improvement include the ability to pull logs from other vendors using an API."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was pretty modest because you could get it in different ways. I think the six licenses, at that time, were about $1,000 each. But then again, I work for a school and educators tend to get discounts on things. So maybe it cost us about five or six hundred a copy."
"It can be expensive, but if you have a good configuration, based on what you are looking for, it's okay, it's manageable."
"To capture more with the solution that we bought, you have to buy another InfiniStreamNG, and there are only four ports in the back."
"If you are able and you are willing to use everything that Netscout provides to you, it's probably a relatively fair price. The problem is that it's such a large and such a complex tool that I'm not sure that many companies would be able to use it entirely, the way it's expected to be used."
"The price is a little high."
"The platform is expensive."
"It is a little overall pricey and expensive, but you get what you pay for."
"Make sure you get the low down on your licensing and understand the licensing requirements before making a purchase, especially when it comes to an upgrade. Make sure that it suits your needs before you commit to it. For example, we purchased ATA at version 6.2.1. At that time, the licensing covered everything we need. NETSCOUT comes out with 6.2.2, stating that in order to upgrade, you had to purchase CyberStream licensing. Now that requires some additional funding from both a capital investment and a maintenance cost. That's something that should have been said, "Well, if you want these additional features, you will need to purchase these CyberStreams." Otherwise, we should be allowed to continue on the basic operations as it is now through the newer releases without being stuck."
