Improves time management by reducing database provisioning time
The feature I appreciate the most in Nutanix Database Service is the Time Machine. The simplicity of the Time Machine feature in Nutanix Database Service and being able to have a point in time that you can go back to at whatever your retention period is, is really great and helpful for us. The Time Machine feature in Nutanix Database Service has definitely reduced turnaround time for when we need clones or other environments spun up off of our existing environment, such as for corruption. It has helped the workload significantly. We're a very small team of database administrators. It worked really effectively for them and helped the workflow much more than our previous solution. Using Nutanix Database Service has reduced the time it takes to provision a database by 75%. The efficiency gained by using Nutanix Database Service has led to a positive impact on our business as far as bringing in new applications and workloads. Being able to clone and spin up other environments off of what we already have in NDB eases turnaround time when requests come in, and we're able to fill them and get them back to the business and make them available to customers. We've been able to automate DBA tasks. It simplifies turnaround time. Our DBA can deploy on how own and no longer waits for requests to be fulfilled.

Lets you know when your jobs are taking longer than average and allows you to go back in history and find out what was happening at certain times
To be able to go back in history and find out what was happening at certain times is the most valuable feature of the product. Another thing that's good about the product is that it will let you know when your jobs are taking longer than average so that you can foretell that there's going to be an issue coming up. Your SQL agent job is taking longer.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"With Oracle, it took around one hour to refresh the database and now, with Nutanix, it takes a quarter of that time."
"The performance and flexibility of non-Nutanix workloads are quite good because from a working perspective or a load perspective, scaling of the system is very straightforward."
"The Nutanix product has a lot of wizard-based utility for the installation which does everything, and it is well thought out and very nice."
"It has some very good features; it really works with multiple silos in terms of infrastructure, database updates, and migration, and so many things are easy with Era."
"The solution enables us to speed up the creation of new instances."
"The provisioning and other features of Nutanix Database Service have improved my company by making it easy to deploy the databases, and DBAs can just deploy what they need as needed instead of having to manually create VMs for them individually and install the databases and setting everything up with DBAs provisioning databases themselves."
"There are a lot of options for working with the database."
"This is a very useful solution for database management."
"This solution has identified blocking, deadlock, memory pressure, and high CPU consumption issues."
"To be able to go back in history and find out what was happening at certain times is the most valuable feature of the product."
"The blocking and deadlock report feature is very convenient to use in pinpointing which query is causing something and what other queries are waiting for it."

Cons

"Patch management is an issue as it regularly causes stability problems."
"The graphical user interfaces could be much more user-friendly. They are already user-friendly, but they could be simpler so that we do not need L3 staff to handle them. If they were simpler, we could also have some command center or L1/L1.5 associates do some housekeeping activities on it."
"The solution needs better backup support, especially with Amazon Media."
"Nutanix Database Service could be improved by making it just a little bit less complex regarding the interface. That said, it's definitely in the right direction."
"The updating of the database engine is something that can be improved. For example, assume that we are using PostgreSQL out of the box, and it is version 10. If we want to migrate to version 11, 12, or 13, then it is not very easy to do that using Nutanix Era."
"I would like to see the SQL compatibility enhanced."
"Nutanix Database Service can be improved by implementing more AI capabilities."
"The solution could improve by providing more support for more vendors."
"If we can get details on wait types from system views, it will help identify a more detailed root cause."
"There could be some more metrics on the high availability to let us know when there are issues synchronizing between the hosts."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I wasn't involved much with the pricing and setup costs and licenses. The pricing was as expected."
"The price of the solution is expensive."
"There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"Licensing costs will be the main scalability problem."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten."
"Pricing wasn't a surprise. It was what we were expecting it to be."
"Not everyone can afford it. It's a bit expensive, so the price has to be improved."
"It is amazing. The pricing compared to the time saved is nothing. It's worth the cost."
"It's fairly expensive."
