Enhancements in manual testing align with reporting and integration features
WebInspect works efficiently with Java-based or .NET based applications. However, it struggles with Salesforce applications, where it requires approximately 20-24 hours to crawl and audit but produces minimal findings, necessitating manual verification. The solution offers customization features for crawling and vulnerability detection. It includes various security frameworks and allows selection of specific vulnerability types to audit, such as OWASP Top 10 or JavaScript-based vulnerabilities. When working with APIs, we can select OWASP API Top 10. The tool also supports custom audit features by combining different security frameworks. For on-premises deployment, the setup is complex, particularly regarding SQL server configuration. Unlike Burp Suite or OpenText Dynamic Application Security Testing, which have simpler setup processes, WebInspect requires SQL server setup to function.

Dedicated browser and repeater have improved my proxy testing and manual vulnerability checks
I'm hoping perhaps for something to make it easier, such as to define things where if a message or a response is such and such, automatically make a request that is such and such. Perhaps something like this because otherwise, nowadays we have to do it manually. Perhaps they can automate it a bit more. Perhaps they could add some automation to things, to see what we do manually, which it has the tools to do manually, and perhaps enable with a click of a button to do things automatically. I'm not too sure which, but I'm sure they can from a product management point of view, do things that we need to do two, three, or four steps manually regarding specific testing. For instance, we want to check something specific if it's this or if it's that. Perhaps to define it once and have it more automatic, perhaps.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of this solution is the ability to make our customers more secure."
"There are lots of small settings and tools, like an HTTP editor, that are very useful."
"I've found the centralized dashboard the most valuable. For the management, it helps a lot to have abilities at the central level."
"Fortify WebInspect is a scalable solution, it is good for a lot of applications."
"The product is a good option for enterprise-level organizations."
"The tool provides comprehensive vulnerability assessments which help ensure our deliverables are as free from vulnerabilities as possible. It has also streamlined our web application vulnerability assessments, assisting us in delivering secure applications to our clients."
"Reporting, centralized dashboard, and bird's eye view of all vulnerabilities are the most valuable features."
"The solution is able to detect a wide range of vulnerabilities and is better at it than other products."
"Burp has several good features; it's cheaper than other solutions and you can scan any number of applications and it updates its database."
"I rate PortSwigger Burp Suite Professional ten points out of ten."
"It is a time-saver application."
"For pentesting scenarios, this is the number one tool. It can capture the request, and there are so many functions that are very good for that. For example, a black box satellite host."
"Everyone seems very happy with the solution."
"I find all the features of PortSwigger Burp Suite Professional most useful, particularly the AI enhancement for results and follow-up for retests."
"In my area of expertise, I feel like it has almost everything I could possibly require at this moment."
"The most valuable features of PortSwigger Burp Suite Professional are its ease of use and its cost efficiency."

Cons

"I want to enhance automation. Currently, Fortify WebInspect can scan and find vulnerabilities, but users with specific skills need to interpret the results and understand how to address them."
"I would like WebInspect's scanning capability to be quicker."
"Creating reports is very slow and it is something that should be improved."
"It requires improvement in terms of scanning. The application scan heavily utilizes the resources of an on-premise server."
"One thing I would like to see them introduce is a cloud-based platform."
"The first time we ran the module, it was okay, however, the next time we ran it, it almost crashed."
"Fortify WebInspect's shortcoming stems from the fact that it is a very expensive product in Korea, which makes it difficult for its potential customers to introduce the product in their IT environment."
"We have often encountered scanning errors."
"There is a certain amount of lead time for the tickets to get resolved."
"The interface for the automatic scan can be improved because it is easy for technical users, but the business users have trouble with it."
"It would be beneficial to have privileged access management as a part of Burp Suite Professional."
"Currently, the scanning is only available in the full version of Burp, and not in the Community version."
"I would like to see the return of the spider mechanism instead of the crawling feature. Burp Suite's earlier version 1.7 had an excellent spider option, and it would be beneficial if Burp incorporated those features into the current version. The crawling techniques used in the current version are not as efficient as those used in earlier versions."
"It is expensive for us in Brazil because the currency exchange rate from a dollar to a Brazilian Real is quite steep."
"PortSwigger Burp Suite Professional can improve by having more features in the free version for beginners to try."
"One area that can be improved, when compared to alternative tools, is that they could provide different reporting options and in different formats like PDF or something like that."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our licensing is such that you can only run one scan at a time, which is inconvenient."
"This solution is very expensive."
"The pricing is not clear and while it is not high, it is difficult to understand."
"Fortify WebInspect is a very expensive product."
"Its price is almost similar to the price of AppScan. Both of them are very costly. Its price could be reduced because it can be very costly for unlimited IT scans, etc. I'm not sure, but it can go up to $40,000 to $50,000 or more than that."
"It’s a fair price for the solution."
"The price is okay."
"Licensing costs are about $450/year for one use. For larger organizations, they're able to test against multiple applications while simultaneously others might have multiple versions of applications which needs to be tested which is why we have the enterprise edition."
"The price for the solution is expensive and could be cheaper. We pay an annual license and our team has several of them."
"It is expensive for us in Brazil because the currency exchange rate from a dollar to a Brazilian Real is quite steep."
"The yearly cost is about $300."
"Our licensing cost is approximately $400 USD per year."
"Burp Suite is affordable."
"This solution requires a license. It is expensive but you receive a lot of functionality for the price."
"The cost is approximately $500 for a single license, and there are no additional costs beyond the standard licensing fees."
