Unified semantic layer has driven informed credit risk decisions and real-time analytical insight
Performance-related issues are a concern, as in multiple reports I have seen, some reports were poorly performing. We can focus on implementation of performance so that reports are delivered within seconds. The user interface and self-service experience can be improved through modernization of the UI, addressing self-service limitations, and integrating with mobile. Technical and administrative complexities can also be addressed. Complexities such as system configuration require attention. In the initial setup of Oracle OBIEE, there are multiple things starting from infrastructure provisioning, database schemas, and WebLogic server installations. However, the RPD, the semantic layer, is the steepest hurdle. Security integration, integrating with LDAP or Active Directory, is rarely plug and play and requires deep knowledge of WebLogic. Deep knowledge is necessary when starting with the initial setup of Oracle OBIEE. Other dependencies include Java middleware and client tools. Since Oracle OBIEE deals with huge data, report performance is the biggest concern. The out-of-the-box setup is rarely optimized, so we need to manually check configuration files, such as nqsconfig.ini file settings. For recommendations in Oracle OBIEE, from what I have seen, we work with star schemas in the RPD. I always aim for the star schema in the business model, even if the physical source is normalized. This approach will impact the performance, speed of the data, and accuracy. Oracle OBIEE could improve to allow other schemas as well. Performance is a major area for improvement, and they should work on aggregating the persistence and improve the persistence wizard where we implement aggregations. Caching features have been given, including event polling tables where we can do purging and seeding, but the main focus should be with respect to schema designs.

I can now create more meaningful charts--radar, donut, pareto, scatter, range, point, boxplot, etc., but it doesn't support Linux or commodity hardware.
* The tool is very easy to use, we got on-premise training from Panorama, within days we were proficient enough to play with the tool. * The customer service is very responsive, they answered our queries. * I saw lot of people complaining about the lack of community forum, but they do have a forum which is quite active. * The tool is extremely easy to use, with a click you can import data and create the visualizations. * The things I like most is it supports variety of charts, I was quite bored with my previous BI tool which mostly supported bar, line and pie charts. I can now create more meaningful charts radar, donut, pareto, scatter, range, point, boxplot, etc.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Technical support is excellent; there are many companies specialized in delivering technical support for OBIEE."
"If they want to enhance their reporting capabilities, Oracle is perfect for them."
"It has helped provide ad hoc reports, which improve the business by doing forecasting as well as analyzing the existing reports with old data."
"Integration-wise, it's good."
"There are a lot of functions in the product, including a drill-down functionality and level-based hierarchies that are very attractive."
"It is easy to create a report quickly. It does not take much time to create an ad hoc report."
"The reporting is the most valuable feature."
"Our primary use is as an enterprise reporting solution."
"The tool is extremely easy to use, with a click you can import data and create the visualizations."

Cons

"There are a lot of bugs, hangs and freezes."
"One of the major red flags we have at the moment against Oracle is that it doesn't support deployment on other cloud providers."
"Oracle support is sometimes pretty vague, and the way they analyze the issue or try to troubleshoot, it's very timely. It takes a long time."
"The technical support is not as good as before. They used to have very good support five to six years ago, but the support is now hectic and takes too much time to resolve issues."
"From a developer's standpoint, it's a bit tough to develop the code and progress the code to the next environment like that. There's a lot of redundancy, especially in relation to creating the code."
"Designing and building the entire set up of Data Warehousing and Dashboard Reporting implementation has been challenging in terms of resources and time."
"From the point of view of strategic management, I would like to have a feature, perhaps a form after we get to the KPI dashboard, to be used to note if something unusual happens in the operations. That way we could record extreme KPI situations, and track why a number is very low or too high."
"Oracle OBIEE only displays KPIs, but it does not include strategic objectives or display risk in a strategic map."
"No support for Linux or commodity hardware. Limited support for big data analytics."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Power BI is less expensive than Oracle OBIEE. A benefit to Power BI is having the option to work with concurrent licensing."
"The licensing cost is based on the number of users using it."
"The company had twenty-five Oracle OBIEE licenses and never expanded. Price-wise, the solution is expensive."
"If you compare Qlik Sense and Oracle OBIEE licensing, then Oracle products are much better. With Qlik Sense, you have to pay per client and per use. But we get Oracle OBIEE along with the Oracle database, making it much more cost-effective in the long term."
"The price of Oracle OBIEE is expensive, it is difficult for a small business to afford."
"Compared with the other products in the market, I feel Oracle OBIEE is an expensive product."
"It is an expensive solution."
"For the license in part of Oracle, my company makes yearly payments."
