Open-source nature enables seamless cloud management and customer transition
We deploy layer three managed services, and our customers manage layer two services. We combine the two-layer services and deliver them to our customers The open-source nature of OpenStack provides significant value. It allows for three-word cloud management, maintaining a stable customer…

Enables efficient multi-environment cluster deployment and resource management with versatile features
While VMware vSAN is quite comprehensive, if we are running multiple infrastructures, applications, databases, and other elements, having a diagnostic tool to identify the actual problem area, whether application-side or infrastructure-side, would be beneficial. A proper monitoring tool that encompasses both applications and infrastructure would help in quickly resolving issues.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Rackspace OpenStack is stable and reliable, often compared favorably against other solutions."
"Administrators are very comfortable with the functionality and services OpenStack offers."
"It was a very flexible and scalable solution. It was very useful because we were not dependent on a single vendor's solution. Increasing the number of machines or changing the hardware configuration was very easy."
"I like its integration with GitLab and its simplicity. OpenStack has a lot of third-party libraries that it uses."
"There are many services that can be directly used which are not available in VMware."
"The initial setup isn't too difficult."
"The most valuable feature is the customization. With the customization you can really give the customers what they want."
"The solution is stable."
"It is easy to work with, easy to handle, and easy to manage."
"The product's initial setup phase is simple."
"vSAN Health is a feature designed to monitor the health and performance of the vSAN environment. It's crucial for us and our customers to frequently check on this to ensure everything is operating smoothly."
"The performance of VMware vSAN is very good."
"The most valuable feature of VMware vSAN is you do not have to use additional hardware for storage. The operation of VMware vSAN does not take a lot of effort. If you have VMware technology on your site, then it's easy for the operational support of the system."
"The main advantage is that it's all in the box, with VMware vCenter Server product."
"We have found the solution to be very scalable."
"High availability is a valuable aspect of this solution."

Cons

"OpenStack is difficult for the novice in terms of beginning to use cloud tools."
"VMware has a side-to-side replication feature, which is still more mature than Rackspace OpenStack's which can't be used in a production environment."
"The deployment process could be easy."
"It could use more examples in different languages (API use cases)."
"The pricing of Rackspace is quite high in the Vietnam market."
"So for the main stability, there have been a couple of issues that I've experienced."
"It should have a single dashboard for cloud management and on-premises systems"
"The line migration is a problem."
"I would like more integration with the hardware when it comes to disc types and supporting the newer types of storage."
"There's already a concern with VMware with ransomware and security issues. VMware could focus on improving security."
"Lacks sufficient storage terabytes."
"A vSAN cluster must have compression and deduplication to be an all-flash array, but it's not supported with a hybrid array. Deduplication and compression work better with an all-flash array, so I think that VMware should give customers the option to activate and support this feature for hybrid arrays. Other products like Nutanix support this."
"The interface is a little complicated, it could be simplified with more graphical gadgets. We have many servers, and the built-in functions, such as rate configuration, are a bit complex."
"The customer service is good but there is a cost for it. It does not come free."
"I see room for improvement for vSAN just around general hardware compatibility and expanding that sort of matrix."
"Its integration with a hybrid cloud can be improved. Its scalability can also be improved so that it can be integrated with more than 32 nodes. The maximum number of nodes is okay, but our use cases could probably do with more nodes, probably up to 64. In terms of new features, it should probably have the basic support for high-speed networking spaces."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I use it as an open-source tool."
"The pricing is low."
"VMware vSAN is a little bit expensive and we pay annually. We have an educational institute where we receive discount prices from VMware. We do receive a reasonable discount but it's still expensive."
"VMware vSAN is an expensive platform. We purchase its yearly license."
"This is a cost-effective product. It's a bit cheaper than the other solutions."
"The cost of VMware vSAN is reasonable."
"We are using the VMware vSAN ROBO which allows us to have a maximum of 25 virtual machines. The approximate cost is €10,000 for a perpetual license."
"Due to recent changes in VMware's licensing approach by Broadcom, the cost has increased significantly, making it less attractive from a cost perspective."
"The solution is relatively expensive compared to similar products."
"With vSAN, we didn't find the market that competitive."
