Open-source nature enables seamless cloud management and customer transition
We deploy layer three managed services, and our customers manage layer two services. We combine the two-layer services and deliver them to our customers The open-source nature of OpenStack provides significant value. It allows for three-word cloud management, maintaining a stable customer…

Experience improved integration and cost-efficiency while facing support challenges
The best features of VxRail are its compatibility with VMware, its hyper-converged solution capabilities, and its single line of support. These are the most beneficial aspects of VxRail. I switched from the previous HP solution to Dell solution because it was a good decision. With HP servers, we dealt with a vendor for the compute servers, another vendor for the storage servers, and another vendor for the networking, which required us to manage multiple vendors. Now, we have a single team who can handle VxRail and a single line of support. We don't need anything other than that, and these are the differences we noticed after we switched.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"There are many services that can be directly used which are not available in VMware."
"Apart from the main features, I really appreciate OpenStack's microservices architecture and its flexibility for deployment with different tools."
"Rackspace OpenStack is stable and reliable, often compared favorably against other solutions."
"It was a very flexible and scalable solution. It was very useful because we were not dependent on a single vendor's solution. Increasing the number of machines or changing the hardware configuration was very easy."
"The most valuable feature is the customization, and with the customization you can really give the customers what they want."
"OpenStack allowed for mass uploading of images to Akamai cloud services."
"I like its integration with GitLab and its simplicity. OpenStack has a lot of third-party libraries that it uses."
"The open-source nature of OpenStack provides significant value."
"There is no in-depth config involved nor third-party needed, saving us time and money."
"like VxRail because it's fully integrated. The other hyperconverged solutions are also well integrated. They are all highly similar to each other in that regard. But we prefer VxRail for its physical integrations or lifecycle management. It also has vCenter, which integrates the hardware lifecycle management."
"The support is very good from the dataset."
"The most valuable features are ease of management and ease of applying updates."
"The stability of VxRail is good, we have not had any issues."
"It's very easy to upgrade."
"Updating the product has been very easy."
"The implementation was quick, we used a checklist and it took approximately one hour."

Cons

"The seamless integration between MySQL services and the rabbitMQ database can be revised during the debugging phase."
"In terms of what needs to be improved, I would say the support. Rackspace might have some good support but the open source OpenStack doesn't have support because there are too many versions coming and too many people are customizing it."
"OpenStack is difficult for the novice in terms of beginning to use cloud tools."
"As a beginner, I find some difficulties in understanding Rackspace OpenStack, as it can be complex without a foundational grasp of cloud and networking concepts."
"The pricing of Rackspace is quite high in the Vietnam market."
"So for the main stability, there have been a couple of issues that I've experienced."
"VMware has a side-to-side replication feature, which is still more mature than Rackspace OpenStack's which can't be used in a production environment."
"The pricing of Rackspace is quite high in the Vietnam market."
"They're getting better with their one-click upgrade. The success factor is now between 85% to 87% with the latest release. They should just continuously improve on that one-click factor and make it more seamless."
"There are still some features which aren't built into Cisco, like virtualized networking, that use its applications. However, these can be purchased through another product as an additional licensing cost to us."
"It might offer better integration with other products."
"The solution is okay to scale vertically but a bit difficult to expend horizontally. For example, increasing RAM."
"The technical support is good but could be better."
"We have issues at times with the one-click upgrade, which is bugging us. At times, the one-click upgrade does not work or does not work well."
"The initial setup between the different Dell departments is fragmented. The engineers who come to rack/stack and do the initial config should be trained on all the areas and work with the different Dell departments whilst they are onsite to give a smoother install and better experience for customer."
"The most important thing that I want to be included in this solution is the VMware license. Its deployment time can be quicker so that instead of 40 minutes, it takes 10 minutes."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is low."
"I use it as an open-source tool."
"The solution is on the higher end of the price range."
"There is a license required for this solution."
"This is an expensive product and that should be considered a point to be improved."
"VxRail does raise the price, but overall, it's well-priced. It's not more expensive than other similar solutions. If you were to create an in-house, tailor-made solution, you could potentially do it at a lower cost. However, I think a fully integrated solution like VxRail should be priced appropriately."
"VxRail is an expensive solution."
"Fees vary by license type."
"VxRail is quite expensive and could be cheaper. I would say that the main difference between VxRail and the competition is cost. There may be some differences in features, but I would say that it's mainly the costs."
"At about $200,000, this solution is a little bit pricey but it is more economical than others such as Nutanix or Cisco Hyperflex."
