Centralized threat hunting has improved alert accuracy and simplifies incident investigations
I would say there are two areas for improvement: the reporting dashboard that provides insights or reports weekly or monthly lacks detailed information about how logs are being ingested. While the details are there, they could be more concise and easier to understand for any level of authority. The second area is alert tuning; compared to Microsoft Sentinel, Rapid7 InsightIDR provides fewer alerts with more static alert functionality and lacks dynamic alerting exposures. There could be improvements to learn from past alert activities for more dynamic alert configurations. These two areas are the main areas for improvement; everything else is good.

Centralized control has strengthened privileged security and simplified audit investigations
While One Identity Safeguard is a strong and reliable PAM solution, there are a few areas where it can be further improved to enhance user experience and scalability. Regarding the user interface and experience, the UI, while functional, can be a bit complex for new users. A more intuitive and modern dashboard with simplified navigation would improve adoption, especially for non-technical stakeholders. Regarding integration flexibility, although it supports major integrations, expanding out-of-the-box connectors for more cloud-native apps, DevOps tools, and SaaS platforms would be beneficial. Faster and simpler API-based integrations could reduce deployment efforts. Regarding scalability and performance in large enterprise environments, performance tuning and scaling can require additional efforts. Enhancing seamless scalability and high availability configuration would improve enterprise readiness.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution provides satisfying native integration features"
"User behavioral analytics allows us to pinpoint abnormal or suspicious behavior among millions of events every day."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR integrates well with other solutions. It's also easy to configure because Rapid7 InsightIDR has a lot of instructions posted on their website that customers can follow if they need to get the source log."
"I've used other products such as QRadar and other SIEM solutions and I find this solution is much more simplified and user-friendly."
"InsightIDR’s ability to process millions of transactions per day, and to notify me of the most critical ones, is priceless. InsightIDR has the alerts tuned, and has the ability to quickly drill down to determine the threat level."
"The web interface is great — very useful and user-friendly."
"Another very important part of insightIDR is the ability to collect data from endpoint devices via agent software. With a large remote workforce, this allows visibility into the endpoints that are connected to the internet, but not to the corporate network."
"The product works well. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"Overall, from my experience, Safeguard by One Identity has improved our security posture, reduced the risk of unauthorized privileged access, and made it easier for our IT team to manage sensitive accounts."
"From my experience, the features are best for monitoring and the usage of LDAP and SSH."
"It's one of the best products we've seen. When you start looking at the functionality and use cases and usability of the product, it's straightforward. They designed this product with the end-user in mind, and they also had the sysadmin who is supporting the product in mind. They really did a nice job. Overall, it's a nice product to work with."
"There is ease of implementation."
"One Identity Safeguard is powerful because it provides beneficial features that support clean integration with different tools, significantly improving security and automation processes."
"The technical support is tremendous."
"One Identity Safeguard has positively impacted my organization by helping to increase security because of password vaulting."
"I give it an eight because of its robust security features, its splendid automated password management, and real-time activity monitoring that stood out to me."

Cons

"One thing that springs to mind is easier API integration with ITSMs. We are evaluating a new ITSM and I would like to have InsightIDR create a ticket when an attack is identified, and the ticket would be closed in InsightIDR when the ITSM resolution is completed. This would take out the "single point of failure" we currently have, if the email recipient is somehow absent, in recording the risk appetite for the incident and the actions taken to mitigate or not."
"I would like the ability to adjust the threshold of certain existing alerts. Currently the only option is to change the notifications or create my own alert."
"The searching feature in Rapid7 InsightIDR needs to evolve"
"Inability to get access to compliance reports within the solution."
"Needs a better ability to customize the check within the console."
"Sometimes, it is hard to get the right queries to use. Currently, the tool lacks a pre-made set of queries."
"I chose eight out of ten because of the analytical rules; they lack dynamic rules, and also due to the dashboard and reporting part."
"I would like to see more development in InsightIDR towards building their SIEM solution and converting it to XDR."
"Our experience with technical support has been disappointing. We require more prompt and faster response times. We require answers to our questions right away but we haven't received that level of support."
"There is room for improvement in One Identity Safeguard in several areas."
"Improving usability and simplifying configuration would be beneficial to enhance Safeguard by One Identity."
"We are still in the onboarding phase, and it seems very manual. Ideally, a single interface to integrate all these processes would be useful."
"They should provide a faster user interface, as we have noticed that the user interface acts slow when there are a large number of accounts or concurrent sessions going on."
"The high availability function of the box itself requires a long time to switch over from one appliance to another, so there is room for improvement."
"We would like to have the option of importing assets by using the CSV file. It was available in the earlier versions, but it is not available now."
"One Identity Safeguard could be improved by providing a unified management experience, as historically it has been split into logical units, and it would be beneficial if they could provide out-of-the-box reports and visualization, addressing the high resource overhead for privileged analytics."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing and licensing are competitive."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR is a cheaply priced product. On a scale of one to ten, where one is very expensive, and ten is very cheap, I rate the product's price at seven or eight."
"Licensing is straightforward. If, for some reason, you don’t meet the minimum licensing requirements, there is a third-party managed service that can help."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR is priced very well and is cost-effective."
"Licensing is by endpoint and amount of retention time (at least ours is). Default retention was one year, but we are able to push the retention further if needed. There's also a provide-your-own-S3 option for longer retention if you don't want to pay for the additional retention years in your Rapid7 agreement."
"The pricing of the solution depends on the user. But there is a yearly licensing cost."
"It is more reasonably priced than other vendors."
"The solution has a mid-range price point in the market"
"It is a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. You don't want to get anything too cheap because then you get cheap stuff and cheap support. That really never helps anybody."
"It is more expensive than Secret Server but way less expensive than CyberArk. As a customer, I would like the pricing to be lower, but it has a good price point."
"It is cheaper than CyberArk. Its price is fair."
"The full license is expensive but if you plan to use it in a big organization then it is the best option because it is more flexible."
"The license is very expensive for us, partly due to inflation and partly because of the exchange rate between the Dollar and the Iranian Rial. We purchased a perpetual license that we've been using up until now, but I believe that we are not going to update it in the future. Instead, we plan to find another third-party to support us with the license, in the sense that we would have access to their license as a shared agreement."
"One Identity Safeguard is expensive and the cost goes up as we scale."
"Our licensing costs are on a yearly basis."
"Setup cost, pricing and licensing are all very expensive."
