A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

Enhanced threat detection with integrated security features and good support
We are using application firewalling, WAF, and SD-WAN. The capabilities are mostly within the box. For example, you will get web application firewall WAF as part and parcel of this. SD-WAN is also bundled. It integrates with their SIEM and SOAR solutions very nicely. Lastly, the pricing point is very cost-efficient as well.

Dynamic web and mail filtering contribute to improved security measures
The reporting system is very poor. I cannot trace any traffic to our site if it feels some threats. It just tells me that there is something during a certain time but does not provide information about the type of threats or how to get rid of them. This needs improvement.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The threat prevention is the solution's most valuable aspect."
"It's an easy solution to set up."
"The application control features, such as Facebook blocking and Spotify blocking, are the most valuable."
"The solution is more affordable compared to alternatives."
"Some of the best features of Fortinet FortiGate include the next-generation firewall features."
"Its performance in fulfilling our requirements has been satisfactory."
"The email protection and VPN features are the most valuable."
"The firewalls are valuable for threat prevention."
"The built-in features function as intended, providing exceptional value."
"I think Sangfor NGAF is more valuable than Cisco products because of its simplicity and ease of management. If I compare it with Palo Alto and Cisco, both are quite complex products. And if I compare it with FortiGate firewalls from Fortinet, I have also used all these products. Fortinet and Sangfor NGAF are similar products because the applications behind the application and policy layers are almost identical."
"We've found the technical support to be helpful."
"It enables us to not only detect but also prevent various types of incoming threats, allowing us to take appropriate corrective actions and exercise control over the network."
"Sangfor is a good solution that provides a WAF and firewall solution. Most other vendors, like Sophos and Fortinet and Cisco, only provide one solution. That's a valuable feature of Sangfor."
"Sangfor NGAF's standout feature is its powerful application control, enabling precise restrictions on mobile user access to approved applications."
"It seems to be a durable, stable product."
"Sangfor NGAF specializes in ransomware detection and helps to protect our network from ransomware threats and malware."
"Sophos XGS' most valuable features are protection and intrusion prevention detection."
"Overall the solution works well."
"As a security solution, it's a very good security solution."
"Sophos XG is a friendly-use firewall that is very good for small environments and small to medium businesses; its functions are great, and I am very satisfied with UTM."
"A valuable feature involves the solution's manageability."
"The initial setup is pretty simple."
"The solution comes with a common bundle which comprises all the feature."
"I've tried out Sophos XG a little. It has a good interface that's very user-friendly, but I haven't used all of its functions because I'm only configuring and running the system."

Cons

"The price of the solution could be cheaper."
"I cannot say definitively about the return on investment with Fortinet FortiGate because I have always been in the technical field, but most of our clients are very happy since threats were stopped, generating confidence in the Fortinet brand among our clients."
"The user interface of the Fortinet FortiGate management console could be more intuitive and user-friendly, and the log analysis and reporting features could be enhanced to provide more flexibility and customizable insights."
"WAN load-balancing could be a lot better at detecting when a link is poor or inconsistent, and not just flat out dead."
"One drawback of Fortinet FortiGate is that they provide two types of models: one with a hard disk and another without. The model without a hard disk has very low ROM where you can store very few logs, after which you need to upload it to the cloud or purchase a firewall with SSD."
"At the moment, if you don't integrate any third-party solution with a simple Fortinet FortiGate box, the box would not function as expected for superb protection."
"It is quite new for us, and we need to go more in-depth into the monitoring tools. It provides different features that we need to do what we want. So far, it is okay for us. In terms of improvement, in the future, they can provide a faster implementation of features. Some of the features are first available in other solutions. Fortinet sometimes takes a little bit longer than other solutions, such as Check Point, to implement new features."
"In terms of pricing, Fortinet needs to do more to compete effectively."
"The cost of licensing is very high compared to other firewalls available here."
"I believe that IAM and NGFW need to merge into a single box, instead of there being two separate box solutions."
"The tool is expensive."
"Our experience with its customer support was quite challenging."
"An area for improvement would be the number of ports defined on the box. In the next release, I would like them to develop their provisioning stage of enrolling end devices."
"The cost of licensing is very high compared to other firewalls available here. There should be improvements in hardware scalability, allowing for more storage and memory capacity."
"An area of improvement for Sangfor NGAF could be in the field of reporting and logging."
"The GUI needs to be improved, lacks logic in some areas."
"We need better reporting and a clear vision of the network, and Sophos XG does not provide that."
"Sophos XG could improve the policies, they are a bit confusing when creating them. There are many options that make it confusing and it could be simplified."
"Even though things work on the back end, we have encountered bugs in the solution."
"The firewall could be made more robust, particularly by simplifying two-factor authentication."
"The number of ports, especially on the entry-level appliances, should be increased."
"Sophos XGS could improve the price."
"The pricing has gotten much higher."
"It's easy to use, but it's hard to configure exact settings. They need to make it easier to access advanced features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"They need to be competitive with other solutions."
"It cost us around $73,000 for three years."
"Other firewalls are more expensive than Fortinet FortiGate, such as the Azure firewall."
"The price of Fortinet FortiGate is affordable. Most of our customers are on a three-year license to use the solution. All the features and support are included in the price."
"I would rate the pricing a six out of ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive."
"Fortinet FortiGate has different licensing models, depending on what you're going to do. Services included would depend on the license model. Licenses can be renewed annually."
"It is not a very costly product if you compare it with other products. The return on investment is also good. If you compare the return of investment and money that you are spending on this product with Palo Alto, Cisco, Check Point, and other solutions, the investment is very less. We are happy with this solution. The optional licenses are there, and you can choose which one you want and which one to avoid."
"The support subscription for the solution is annual. You are paying for support and there are two levels of support, professional and advanced."
"Sangfor is cheaper than competing vendors."
"The price is unmatcheable."
"For over 2000 users, the cost is around 5000 to 6000 USD. If you want a web application firewall, you have to purchase an additional license for it."
"If one is very cheap and ten is very expensive, I rate the tool's price as three out of ten."
"It costs about 8 to 10 thousand dollars per year for 500 users, standard licensing fees included."
"If you know you have around 200+ computer users on your network, then the Sangfor NGAF 5200-F-I model would be the minimum recommended model for that amount of users. This model includes modules for packet filtering, deep packet inspection, malware scanning, DSCP filtration, and many other features."
"In my opinion, the price of the tool is good in the Pakistani market. We can easily get discounts if needed."
"The solution has a TCO that is 32% to 50% less than Sophos, Fortinet, and SonicWall."
"The price is good and licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis."
"It is fairly priced."
"The pricing is very high."
"It's a suitable price and license."
"The price is reasonable but it would be great if it was reduced to half the price."
"It is not expensive, it's a reasonable price,"
"Sophos allows for its product to be evaluated without any financial commitment."
"The product is well priced."
