Enables customers to manage security effortlessly with intuitive features and easy integration
In terms of improvements for Fortinet FortiGate, they could offer evaluation licenses, as compared to Meraki, which provides a 90-day evaluation. In Fortinet FortiGate, they do not provide standard evaluation licenses; instead, we need to request them from the OEM through the account manager for POCs. If we want to conduct a demo, we need to work with real hardware. In comparison to Cisco, we have DCloud, which helps with providing demos to customers, but in Meraki, I need to reach out to them, book a lab, and they need to provide all the hardware. I need remote access and L3 engineers to program it; only then can I offer a real-time demo to the customer.

Enhanced threat detection with integrated security features and good support
We are using application firewalling, WAF, and SD-WAN. The capabilities are mostly within the box. For example, you will get web application firewall WAF as part and parcel of this. SD-WAN is also bundled. It integrates with their SIEM and SOAR solutions very nicely. Lastly, the pricing point is very cost-efficient as well.

Robust protection has blocked external threats and provides clear visibility into user activity
Sophos Firewall offers multiple features, including IPS, IDS, ATP, NDR, XOps, web protection, application protection, web server protection, and many more. Out of all those features, I find web protection and application protection to be very helpful and valuable in my daily work. Sophos Firewall has positively impacted my organization by preventing outside threats, allowing me to easily monitor my users, and configuring any rule for any user regarding what they need to use and what I am restricting for the particular user. I can share that it has improved productivity because if anyone could ransom my network, they could demand money to decrypt the files, thus saving us money, time, and providing reliability.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The price is pretty reasonable; it's not like Cisco or Palo Alto, which are more expensive."
"The installation was super easy, we were up and running in less than 50 minutes."
"Fortinet Secure SD-WAN delivered the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) per Mbps among all other vendors."
"We would recommend this firewall at any given point in time."
"From the firewall perspective, the rules and policies are very sufficient and easy to use."
"When it comes to firewall enterprise security and email security, this solution is at the top."
"It is a very user-friendly solution. Moreover, Foritgate offers good performance."
"It's a user-friendly and stable firewall."
"While the features are not dissimilar to other brands, configuration is much more simple, which works out great for Indonesian people."
"You might try Sangfor if you are on a tight budget. The price is affordable, and Sangfor offers a lot of features. We don't have any complaints about Sangfor."
"The tool's performance is good."
"Sangfor is a good solution that provides a WAF and firewall solution; most other vendors, like Sophos and Fortinet and Cisco, only provide one solution, and that's a valuable feature of Sangfor."
"So far, the performance and reliability of the product have supported our company's critical network traffic."
"The capabilities are mostly within the box."
"I think Sangfor NGAF is more valuable than Cisco products because of its simplicity and ease of management. If I compare it with Palo Alto and Cisco, both are quite complex products. And if I compare it with FortiGate firewalls from Fortinet, I have also used all these products. Fortinet and Sangfor NGAF are similar products because the applications behind the application and policy layers are almost identical."
"The VPN connectivity feature is really nice."
"I like the tunneling part which we are using for the VOIP. We have various other sites where we connect via tunneling. The tunneling part is very fast and easy to implement."
"Content filtering and intrusion prevention are most valuable, our customers are fully satisfied with the performance of Sophos, and it has all the features that they require in a firewall."
"The most valuable feature of Sophos XG is its routing and network routing capabilities."
"It's user-friendly and quite easy to configure. It's easy to communicate with the Sophos support team."
"The UI for Sophos is very simple."
"The initial setup and configuration was very easy for us, and I think it's easier than the other options in the marketplace."
"This is a very stable solution."
"In summary, this is a good product and other than the support, I don't think that there is anything else that will improve it for us."

Cons

"The security of Fortinet FortiGate could improve."
"Support could be improved."
"FortiGate is a complete solution, but it is very expensive compared with other solutions."
"If anything, they can support a user a little bit better."
"The platform's interface could improve."
"Fortinet FortiGate needs to improve the protection, it did not prevent us from being attacked. Additionally, Fortinet FortiGate could provide more features for WAF devices. I should not have to purchase two solutions, it would be a benefit to combine these features into one solution."
"There is one big configuration file with no separations for the unique VDOMs. Maybe they could separate individual VDOM configuration files with the root VDOM configuration file referencing the individual VDOM config files."
"The main area needing improvement is the user-friendliness of FortiGate's integration with other Fortinet tools like FortiAuthenticator and VPN services."
"It does not offer any recommendations on how to mitigate or control attacks."
"An area for improvement would be the number of ports defined on the box. In the next release, I would like them to develop their provisioning stage of enrolling end devices."
"Sangfor could improve by providing better real-time reporting, as the current reports don't offer the level of detail we need, especially for runtime insights."
"The GUI needs to be improved, lacks logic in some areas."
"They need to improve their research team and they need to study their data to analyze it and build the product."
"Our experience with its customer support was quite challenging."
"The web interface needs to be improved, making it more user-friendly."
"There is room for improvement in dependency on certain infrastructure, like the DNS dependency on the current DNS server that the company has. It should be standalone. It should not depend on any other DNS server."
"The security of the solution could be improved by making it more intuitive and it should have a background reputation service for classification of websites for content filtering."
"The user interface has improved significantly over the past few years, and having a more competitive price model could make it a preferable choice for customers."
"It is not a stable solution, and improvements can be made to firmware and hardware."
"Sophos XGS could improve by having a Network Access Control(NAC). This feature is a basic function in other firewalls and should be added, such as Palo Alto."
"An area that could be improved is technical support's ticket registration process. Sometimes when I contact technical support, they do not register the tickets properly."
"Sometimes when you roll out a new firmware, you find that the rules you already have in place are broken, so it's difficult to migrate to a new firmware. That's the only downside I've experienced in Sophos."
"The current bandwidth consumption is no longer shown in the XG and XGS."
"I find the solution too expensive, to be honest. It's one of the reasons I'm looking for an alternative."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"In the Asian economy in which we operate, FortiGate is expensive."
"We pay for the solution annually."
"The support subscription for the solution is annual. You are paying for support and there are two levels of support, professional and advanced."
"Fortinet bundles FortiGate with other products and because of this, the price is a little expensive to some SMB enterprises."
"It's very affordable."
"The price is relatively expensive compared to other solutions which are providing similar features."
"They need to be competitive with other solutions."
"The pricing or licensing of Fortinet FortiGate is quite effective as it offers different bundles that aggregate most required features, while also allowing clients the option to select specific components alone."
"I rate the product price as one on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
"The solution has a TCO that is 32% to 50% less than Sophos, Fortinet, and SonicWall."
"When it comes to the price of firewall solutions, Sangfor NGAF takes the cake."
"The license of Sangfor NGAF can be purchased at different interval lengths, such as annually or three years. They offer a range of packages to choose from, such as combo or hybrid packages. We are using the complete solution package which includes IM, NGF and SSL VPN, and WAF."
"We purchased one year technical support and return to factory support, and we also purchased one-year technical support services. So those were additional."
"Sangfor is cheaper than competing vendors."
"For over 2000 users, the cost is around 5000 to 6000 USD. If you want a web application firewall, you have to purchase an additional license for it."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"I live in Bolivia and the price of Sophos XGS is high. However, they have adjusted their price a little over the past while but the price could still be less expensive to be affordable."
"It's a suitable price and license."
"Over the last two years of the COVID-19 crises, most users required an SSL VPN license, something for which SonicWall charges but which Sophos offers for free."
"The price of the Sophos XG is very good. There are not any licensing costs, it is a one-time purchase price."
"The solution is priced well."
"Sophos is very good when it comes to pricing."
"Sophos XG is not an expensive solution. If you are willing to pay more, then there is the Check Point firewall which is the best out of all the vendors."
"The price is reasonable but it would be great if it was reduced to half the price."
