Offloads processes on the server side but needs better installation syntax
One area for improvement is the installation process. Another point could be the syntax, as it sometimes involves using syntax names that are not intuitive. For example, to calculate the difference between two dates, the general syntax in SAS is called the data difference or data net function. However, another name is used, such as NF and INK. Without knowledge of SAS programming, it becomes unclear what these functions mean. It is not good to define function names this way.

Has supported building flexible data pipelines and streamlined ETL orchestration
There should be a dedicated support team for Talend Open Studio. We do have a support team, but at times it is critical for us to fix certain things within one or two hours. Usually, the support team takes some 12 hours, which is the standard edition of support. If we could have round-the-clock support, we would be able to resolve many issues which we encounter during the development part. The initial setup for Talend Open Studio is a little complex. We need to have a dedicated person who has an understanding of Talend Open Studio as a tool. It takes some level of expertise, so it is not an easy process, but once we have a dedicated associate who is knowledgeable in that particular field, it becomes comparatively easier.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution offers very good data manipulation and loading."
"The solution is very stable."
"A key feature allows us to enhance job performance by offloading processing to the server side, rather than processing on the server itself."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is its amazing capabilities in regard to data handling."
"Talend is significantly easier to use."
"We are totally satisfied with this product."
"The most interesting aspect of the solution for us is that Talend Open Studio has a good balance between the features and the cost of the data management platform, and it's easy to use Talend with our customers due to the fact that we can introduce and upsell clients to other kinds of subscriptions."
"We have contacted their technical support. They are great. They offer very professional help. If I need some technical answer, they are very professional. They are quick, professional, and very accurate."
"It provides the power of an ETL tool but packaged as a Java app without needing any custom product setup."
"Talend is safe to use because it is very restrictive, and it is easy to use when one learns how to manipulate data with SQL."
"The product is easy to install and configure. It is one of the best tools for data integration."
"If you are a data integrator or system integrator, your work will be much easier using Talend Open Studio."

Cons

"Something that could improve is writing SQL to integration studio because it is not that straightforward. There should be better integration with other software."
"The transform tool has limited access. They should make it more flexible."
"One area for improvement is the installation process."
"The initial setup had issues, and even after using it for about one year, it was still not fixed."
"So I would like to see improved integration with other software."
"The initial setup of SAS Data Integration Server was complex."
"I think my biggest problem with the tool is that the errors are very hard to debug."
"The only other thing is that you have to integrate into an API gateway. We're in Azure, so we use Microsoft Azure Gateway. It doesn't come with its own gateway, which is another sort of big plus side that we saw in Boomi. Talend isn't quite there yet with the API gateway."
"The price for Talend Data Integration should be less expensive."
"The overall marketing and documentation of this product need to improve a lot."
"The open-source version does not include the parallel execution; neither the source code versioning or the project collaboration features."
"Talend Open Studio's interface does not provide a good experience...I would like to see better documentation and a more enhanced graphical interface in Talend Open Studio."
"Talend Open Studio has a lot of capabilities, but there is some restriction. For example, if we want to connect to an SAP system, Open Studio cannot do it. We need to go with an enterprise version. Additionally, the monitoring features could improve."
"Open Studio doesn't have features that some of its competitors do like administrative tools."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is an expensive program."
"I am using the open-source version and it is free."
"It does the job well for nothing — without cost. That's the advantage of this product."
"Talend Open Studio is priced too high."
"There are many versions available and one is open-sourced which is free."
"The cost, particularly in Africa, is quite high."
"Pricing and licensing are fairly straightforward. It is reasonably priced and managed."
"The paid version of this solution has a very high price, but even with the limitations, the Community version works fine."
"It is an open-source product."
