IBM Storage Fusion is used in telecoms. It is a file center that receives and shares files. It is also used for writing the CDR zone on the storage, since it offers a cost-effective solution for large-scale storage needs in a telecom setup.
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
The deployment of Storage Fusion has been new for us in the last six months, and while we don't have many challenges, we are still learning about the system to better maintain and reduce our operational size.
What is most valuable?
Fusion provides the ability to install the secret server and distribute files; it serves as a black box where tickets are opened only if issues arise, reducing frequent upgrade problems. It also allows scalability with the possibility of adding more nodes seamlessly.
What needs improvement?
The implementation is complex, especially when using custom servers. Simplification or better support for this aspect would be valuable. Additional support from IBM, such as chargeable certifications or educational materials for partners, would aid in simplifying complex installations.
For how long have I used the solution?
The first deployment issue was in the last six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
IBM Storage Fusion is relatively new for us. Although it is stable in production for the last three months and the customer seems satisfied, we don't have enough experience to provide a detailed analysis of its stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Currently, IBM supports the scalability aspect completely, helping configure and expand as needed, although it's unclear how many nodes can be supported.
How are customer service and support?
IBM provides local experts for support in the region, and the available support is quite positive.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is complex, especially if you install on custom hardware. If it were managed directly by IBM on new hardware, it might have been faster and more straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
Two to three engineers from our team worked for almost three weeks to prepare this deployment.
What was our ROI?
The pricing model involves purchasing both hardware and software directly from Dell with protection systems. It seems more expensive than other vendors, although achieving a return on investment is still a work in progress as part of an ongoing project.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Compared to other options, purchasing IBM Storage Fusion, along with necessary hardware and maintenance, comes with a higher price tag. It's crucial to handle the associated infrastructure and vendor support correctly.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated Dell, VMware, Fujitsu, and HP.
What other advice do I have?
The price tends to be a central factor for customers choosing this solution, presumably due to the cost-efficient storage solutions it offers.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
