Juniper vSRX Reviews

We are consultants and integrators using Juniper vSRX for a range of shipping companies, which can be both small and large. We implement it behind one firewall and in front of multiple other firewalls.

We use the application filtering, content filtering, and intrusion prevention system (IPS) features. These features are crucial for our network security. The ease of installation and licensing are also significant advantages, as it allows us to have one license for all products, which simplifies upgrading and maintenance. Additionally, the ease of deployment is critical for us.

I would suggest improving the pricing, particularly the licensing model. Although it is currently quite reasonable, making it more accessible would be beneficial.

We have been dealing with Juniper for six years now.

The solution is very stable and performs well.

Juniper vSRX is a highly scalable solution, and I would rate its scalability a nine out of ten.

The support is excellent. Whenever we needed assistance, they were very supportive. I would rate their support a ten out of ten.

We have evaluated many other vendors, however, I do not specifically recall working with any other similar products before Juniper vSRX.

Since Juniper vSRX is preconfigured, it usually takes just a few days for full deployment.

We are using a partner who is a reseller of Juniper, and they handle our implementation needs.

The solution has delivered a return on investment to our customers.

The pricing is competitive, being neither the most expensive nor the cheapest option. It falls within the medium to high range. It's quite reasonable at a competitive level.

We have evaluated various other solutions. I can't specify which ones.

I would rate Juniper vSRX a nine out of ten. 

I currently don't see any need for additional features in the next release, as it fully covers our current needs.

It is very useful for those moving to the cloud or using cloud services like AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure. These types of customers always prefer virtual firewall services.

The valuable features are threat prevention to work like Jira Trust Network Access. It will benefit the customer who takes care of it and this application.

In contrast to hardware firewalls, if the hardware fails, we need to wait for a replacement, renew the support contract, or purchase an additional warranty. We don’t face these issues with the vSRX firewall.

It should also support modern data technologies like zero-day protection and zero-trust network access. The firewall must filter traffic from SaaS applications like Microsoft 365 and other cloud services. It should also integrate easily with identity engines such as Okta and Microsoft Azure Active Directory, offering simpler integration than other brands.

I have been using Juniper vSRX since 2020.

It has a really good firewall compared with any other firewall. It is suitable for more prominent companies.

I rate the solution’s scalability a nine-point five out of ten.

My customers always prefer managed services. They always buy this subscription with managed services. Support is always there; they don't need to call any partner for support or anything else. The support is also very good compared to any other company.

In India, the market scenario and customer preferences vary significantly. Nowadays, customers often come to us with specific requirements, including the brand name and the services they need. This can present a challenge, as most customers are well-educated, especially in the IT sector. India has a strong reputation globally in information technology, with many industry leaders in places like Silicon Valley having Indian origins.

Customers approach us with their chosen brand and requirements and inquire about pricing. If they need additional information, they usually communicate with partners.

For example, a customer once asked for a Juniper vSRX firewall with specifications like five or more GPUs, 8GB RAM, and a firewall throughput of 51.6 Gbps. We face a challenge when those specifications don’t align with what's available. Switching the customer to another brand could risk losing the order. This is particularly true with Juniper, as their virtual firewall and overall service are highly regarded in the industry.

ROI is almost two to three years, but it saves and gives perfect security and support.

Pricing is competitive. It depends upon our account manager and customer-to-customer. The pricing is also very good and is flexible.

It depends on what exactly you are taking. It comes in the package. If you require some additional features, then you need to pay. They also have some basic plans. In that basic plan, they always provide antivirus, web filtering, content filtering, anti-spam, all these things. There are certain other features. Normally, cloud users never do research. They always go and prefer this hundred percent security bundle

Every virtual firewall typically integrates with Microsoft Active Directory, and many users rely on Azure Active Directory. This integration allows virtual firewalls to synchronize policies and user identities automatically. This feature enables you to connect any identity engine or Active Directory services with the firewall, adding flexibility and ease of management.

While many firewalls offer similar capabilities, Juniper’s vSRX stands out with its powerful routing features compared to other vendors. Juniper also excels in providing multiple integrations and visibility. Their SSL VPN supports various platforms, including Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, making it highly beneficial for remote users who need to connect to applications via a VPN tunnel.

Juniper’s threat detection and prevention system, including SkyAdvance, is robust. It offers effective zero-day protection, meaning it can detect and respond to new threats in real time. For instance, if a Juniper firewall in the U.S. identifies malicious activity, it sends alerts globally, ensuring comprehensive protection.

Juniper’s Session Smart Router is designed for SD-WAN technology. Unlike traditional tunnel-based solutions, Session Smart Routing is a tunneled technology. It avoids packet size limitations associated with tunnels and offers superior efficiency and scalability.

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Juniper is creating Layer Three IP VPN tunnels connecting branch sites and offices together on their separate networks. Our appliances would serve as the VPN termination point, allowing them to route their traffic. If you take a company with geographically diverse offices across a particular area and want to link them together, IP VPN is the way to go, and vSRX is what we use to terminate those VPN connections.

Juniper provides access to route their traffic over the Internet through an internal VPN.

Virtualization is the biggest advantage because you can leverage computing resources. Deploying it in the cloud is a good option if the use case allows it.

The pricing could be improved. Also, it's not currently offered in many cloud solutions as readily deployable. Instead, you need to bring it to the cloud and deploy it.

The product is stable because it is independent of hardware. It depends on the hardware if you're hosting it on a cloud environment or computer. So if that goes down, the product goes down with it.

I rate the solution’s stability a nine out of ten.

There were no issues with it. According to the data sheets and white papers, it performed how it would. It is quick, stable, and scalable. We never ran into any issues, even with thousands of users using these pieces of equipment. It was reliable, and it scaled as per the requirements.

The local teams are good in terms of engagement and support. uniper takes a big box in terms of backing their products and supporting them.

The initial setup is fairly complex. You should purchase equipment if you have experience with the vendor and their offerings. There are no graphical tools for deployment provided by third-party tools. It does require extensive knowledge. The equipment costs thousands of dollars.

We acted as a third-party systems integrator and assisted in designing and implementing. It couldn't be done in-house if someone within our organization.

ROI is pretty good, depending on the features. If you're purchasing all the features but not using them, then it's a bit wasteful. The ROI is favorable if you're acquiring them based on genuine requirements because Juniper is a reliable brand and product. The device will likely remain in service for years beyond the three-year refresh cycle.

The key dependency lies in the hardware. If you're hosting it in a virtual environment, it relies on the underlying hardware supporting that environment. Physically, you rely on the circuitry, chips, power, and other components. Therefore, using a virtualized platform introduces an additional layer of abstraction.

You'll end up wasting money if you don't know what you're doing and use cases. It's not about buying a virtualized firewall. You're getting a virtualized router and a switch combined into one unit capable of performing telco-grade routing at a layer two level. It's a very complex piece of equipment used for threat management. It is capable of much more. We use it for its versatility; it can serve multiple purposes effectively.

You can monitor the hypervisor for key performance indicators and understand how it's running and functioning. It integrates well with the most well-known operational toolsets.

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

We use the solution as a site-to-site VPN gateway.

The solution's most valuable feature is the logical terminal interface. It helps us with monitoring VPNs. We get alerts and other notifications when in case of system downtime using it.

The solution's GUI needs improvement. Whenever we do some modifications, the systems get restarted. Thus, I have to use the command line interface.

I have been using Juniper vSRX version 13 as a customer for the last five years.

The solution is stable.

We have more than 20 to 30 site-to-site VPNs established using the solution.

Compared with the solution, Cisco ASA needs proper SNMP and MIB monitoring in case of IPSec VPN tunnel downtime.

The solution's initial setup process is easy.

The solution is inexpensive.

I recommend the solution to others and rate it an eight out of ten. It is a very inexpensive box and has good features as well.

We use the product to protect our server from external threats.

The most valuable features in Juniper vSRX are traffic configuration and segmentation. These functionalities are crucial for our organization as we have different departments with varying services and applications.

They could provide support for cloud deployments. We are currently focused on on-premises deployments but see the potential for expanding into cloud environments. It would be beneficial to have a single dashboard or interface to differentiate between control and user plane functionalities, enhancing overall management and scalability. Additionally, we are interested in exploring options for scaling the Juniper vSRX firewall across different locations, including private cloud environments, and having the ability to centralize control and monitoring from a single point would be highly advantageous.

We have been using Juniper vSRX for four years.

I rate the platform's stability a ten out of ten.

We have around 50 to 80 Juniper vSRX users in our organization. The scalability is satisfactory at present.

The technical support services are excellent.

We use Check Point. Both Juniper and Check Point have similar operational concepts. However, one notable difference is that Check Point provides separate management for the service.

Juniper vSRX is easy to manage and integrate. I recommend it to others and rate it a nine out of ten.

The product’s quality and performance are better than other vendors.

The solution could improve its technical support. It could also improve its performance and ticket handling.

I am working on the solution currently for three of my clients.

Most of the clients might choose Cisco, Palo Alto, and Fortinet over Juniper because of the difference in pricing, quality, performance, ticket handling, and technical support.

The product has a good market in our country. Juniper’s MX1000 and other series have firewall and routing features. However, in other products, the firewall and routing feature is separated. Most Juniper devices combine routing switches and firewalls on a single platform.

Overall, I rate the solution a six or seven out of ten.

Our primary use case for this solution is for VPN.

We find its graphical user interface valuable because we can easily route the traffic and set up the devices according to our needs.

The solution can be improved by allowing automatic updates for the OS devices. For example, when we want to update our hardware device system, we have to download the OS package, attach the file with the hardware, and send a command to upgrade that package. However, with others, we can use the D-Link devices and click to check the online update and update it. In this case, we have to attach something from our local storage and then send a command to update Juniper.

We have been using the solution for over two years and are currently using an older version.

The solution is stable.

The solution is scalable. We can increase the number of users if we want. We have about 25 users connected to our central VPN devices, and we can add more devices.

We do not have experience with customer service and support.

Fortinet is better than Juniper vSRX because they have an effective price. In addition, if you check the public feedback for Fortinet is around 9.0 and is highly recommended.

The initial setup is straightforward and takes approximately 30 minutes.

The pricing is reasonable, but I do not have specific details.

I rate this solution an eight out of ten. Regarding advice, I would recommend Fortinet first because they cover all the endpoint protection, VPN protection and email protection. Second I would recommend Sophos, and third I would recommend Falcon.

This solution works well. Their switches and firewall are good.

Fortinet is more user friendly than Juniper. In terms of remote access, I actually prefer using Fortinet. It is much easier to configure. When someone uses Juniper for the first time, it can be very intimidating. At one time, Juniper had what was known as a MAG, which was meant for remote access for users on the SRX.

They sold MAG and now remote access on Juniper leaves a lot to be desired because they don't have their own client. You have to use Pulse Secure or another solution. When there's a bug, Juniper relies on Pulse Secure and in our experience, this took six months to fix.

I have been using this solution for ten years. 

This is a scalable solution. 

For those who can afford it afford it, I would recommend Palo Alto over Juniper.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.  

We use the solution for the VPN provider.

I like the role-based functions, but the device can now perform most of the tasks. We have open access to CLI. You can access it directly. Many vendors have also opened their CLI to Linux, making troubleshooting easier.

The GUI needs to be faster.

I have been using Juniper vSRX for five years.

Stability depends on the configuration and virtualization.

I rate the solution’s stability a nine out of ten.

It's scalable. They've improved because previously, you could only handle up to 500 tunnels, but now they can handle up to 2000 concurrently. Around three or four people in my team are using this solution.

I rate the solution’s scalability an eight out of ten.

The initial setup is very easy. You need the management IP. Then, you can copy and paste. Additionally, in the CLI, you can load the configuration and manage devices, which saves a lot of time.

I rate the product’s pricing a three out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive.

Palo Alto is more better. Juniper has firewall issues. Juniper is cheaper and more reliable than others. Palantir is reliable but it is pricey.

It is easy to integrate the solution with your IT workflow. We have a lot of VM quota. We need to download the configuration. 

I recommend opting for a normal firewall if you only need around 50 percent efficiency up to the protocol level. I suggest purchasing a VM rack. You can receive support without complicating things.

Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

The tool's most valuable features are routing features and service quality. 

The tool's basic license does not cover everything. It needs to improve visibility and availability.

I rate the tool's deployment a four out of ten. You need one month to complete the deployment for 50 sites.
