A highly secure and stable database solution that is easy to implement

What is our primary use case?

I use Oracle Database for the server from Microsoft.

What is most valuable?

Big companies and millions of smaller businesses need Oracle Database because it's secure. The implementation of services is good for data security in Oracle. Implementing higher availability is also good. Whenever one side goes down, the other side will be up. I like using Oracle Database in Oracle x86 Servers. It's more comfortable to use Oracle Database in this situation.

What needs improvement?

It would be better if they had a license management service.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Oracle Database is very stable.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy.

What other advice do I have?

I would tell potential users that they need to use Oracle Database if they need security. It's great and the best. You can also use various software in our database.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Oracle Database a ten.

Very powerful, providing easy migration between databases
Pros and Cons
  • "The ease of migration between databases."
  • "The connection can be slow due to the distance from the provider."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution as a platform. Our applications for the product are related to human resources, social environment, and environmental. We are Oracle customers and I'm a database administrator.

How has it helped my organization?

The main benefit we've had is from making the move from on-prem to cloud - it has saved us a lot of money.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature for us is the ease of migration between databases. It's quite powerful.

What needs improvement?

Our main problem is that the connection is slow and that's because it's the Latin version. We are in Peru and the providers are in the United States. There's no other data center that can implement our database.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

In general, the customer support has not been good. We'd get emails about interruptions and shutdowns over weekends and that affected us. In the first year, we were assisted by a Colombian consultant but the second year things changed and the support came from Chile. When we were dealing with Colombia we'd get a response to our requests within the hour but when the support moved to Chile it could take two days to get a response and even then the problem was not necessarily solved.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy, they use wizards and you can create an instant database in minutes. We had the assistance of a Colombian consultant for implementation but I was responsible for the deployment, executing scripts and applying fixes.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing is expensive and then there is a support fee which is another 20% of the cost price.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We've decided not to continue with the Oracle database and we're migrating to SQL. One of the main reasons for migrating is the cost difference, Oracle's license is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I don't have anything against Oracle, I think it's the best database in the world. It's completely different from SQL and more powerful. The latest Oracle product, the Autonomous Database will be a leading solution. SQL is better for medium size companies and Oracle is geared to enterprise organizations.

I rate this solution eight out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

Good performance and interface
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the performance power and the interface of the solution."
  • "Problems can arise if there are too many requirements or a lot of details which must be applied to connect the software to the database."

What is most valuable?

I like the performance power and the interface of the solution.

What needs improvement?

I encountered problems when developing solutions or when the developers needed to know or check many things to connect to the database. Problems can arise if there are too many requirements or a lot of details which must be applied to connect the software to the database. There may be a need to have the client in the host machine and have other files registered. Once the connection is made with the database the problem is resolved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Oracle Database for six years.

What other advice do I have?

The solution is privately deployed and solely with on-premises products.

I develop solutions.

I rate Oracle Database as a nine out of ten.

  • "The solution could improve security."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Oracle Database for corporation development.

What is most valuable?

Oracle Database has high-level features that are very good.

What needs improvement?

The solution could improve security.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been Oracle Database for approximately 12 years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

We have approximately 200 users using this solution.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have previously used MySQL.

What about the implementation team?

We have a four-person team that does the implementation and maintenance of the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the solution is expensive compared to other database solutions. We are on an annual subscription.

I would recommend this solution to others.

I rate Oracle Database a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Robust and accessible with helpful technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "Technical support has been helpful so far."
  • "The installation of the product could be designed to be simpler."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is primarily used for our accounting system.

What is most valuable?

The solution is the best in the world. It's robust and accessible.

Oracle is the best on the market. They offer an exceptional product.

Technical support has been helpful so far.

What needs improvement?

The solution could be a bit cheaper. There are less expensive options.

The installation of the product could be designed to be simpler.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about three years. It's been a while.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support has been great. We've been most satisfied with eh level of support we get. Everyone is helpful and responsive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I also have experience with the SQL Server, which is less expensive. It's also easier to set up and deploy,

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup isn't exactly straightforward. It's a bit more complex than, for example, an SQL Server, which is much more straightforward and simple to deploy.

What about the implementation team?

We used a specialist when deploying the solution originally.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is more expensive than the SQL server. If a company needs a less expensive option, it shouldn't necessarily choose Oracle.

What other advice do I have?

I use multiple versions of the solution, including 12C and 11G.

I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

I'd recommend the solution to others. Oracle really is the best, even though the initial setup can be a bit difficult.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
