My main use case for Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers is for installing products like MySQL Database, which was initially for installing Oracle products.
Streamlined database deployments have improved integration and performance for critical workloads
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers has had a positive impact on my organization, especially due to its ease of integration and driver compatibility, particularly with Oracle or MySQL products, and I really enjoy working with this distribution when dealing with these two products.
In practical results, I found the performance improvement of the database quite subtle—small, but there was improvement, particularly with better management of the machine's memory consumption and the operating system's own semaphores with the disk Sync I/O.
What is most valuable?
I notice specific advantages in choosing Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers compared to other distributions, mainly because of ease of integration and tools and dependencies when installing related products. In other Linux distributions, I sometimes have difficulty getting the correct dependency versions.
In terms of features that make the process easier, the initial configuration of Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers is very simple, and the driver compatibility is excellent.
What needs improvement?
Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers could be improved in several ways. I think the installation documentation could be clearer, more practical, and more objective.
I would suggest that the step-by-step guidance be improved to be more objective in the product's installation configuration. For Oracle products such as Oracle Database itself and MySQL, the information should be clearer, especially for the MySQL installation concerning the composition and step-by-step process of installing and configuring drivers.
The missing aspect is the need for clearer information in the installation manual of the product itself and the related products belonging to the company, such as MySQL and Oracle, as it lacks configuration details.
I don't have any further suggestions for improving Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers aside from the documentation mentioned, as I don't make direct use of any specific feature of Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers itself, other than for database use.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers for around four years, as I have used it several times when installing Oracle databases and other types of databases as the database platform for customers I had when I did consulting work.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers is stable. On all the servers where I have it, I don't have any problems, as the server doesn't restart by itself and remains stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have only used Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers with Oracle RAC and for MySQL replication, and its scalability was very smooth. I didn't have any problems with that.
How are customer service and support?
I didn't need to contact support for Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers, thankfully, as the product has always worked very well, and I haven't had any negative incidents with it.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used some products that worked with SQL Server and others with PostgreSQL, but we changed to using MySQL and products that utilized Oracle Database due to acquisitions like SAP, which required these databases.
What was our ROI?
The necessity arose to use Oracle Database or MySQL, and Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers was requested along with it.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We just communicate that we need the resource, provided there is already an authorized and purchased package.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers, I didn't evaluate other options, as the product already came predetermined for these versions due to compatibility.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers a nine.
Regarding the AI features of Oracle Linux 8.9 with support by ProComputers, I still haven't had the opportunity to use it, but from what I have read, it seems quite interesting.
