These attributes make Oracle Reports suitable for producing operational and business reports across various industries.
What are the key features of Oracle Reports?Oracle Reports is widely adopted in financial and healthcare sectors, facilitating detailed report generation for management. Many partners use it to create operational and third-party customer reports. Some companies are transitioning to JasperReports through REST API architectures to modernize, especially for larger clients requiring JasperReports Commercial edition.
| Author info | Rating | Review Summary |
|---|---|---|
| Data Architect at Dedalus India at Dedalus Healthcare Services | 4.0 | I'm evaluating Liquibase and Flyway for CI/CD integration to replace our in-house solution, while also migrating from Oracle Reports to JasperReports due to Oracle's de-support and high licensing costs, focusing on modernization and cost-effective alternatives. |
| Application Development Manager at Accenture | 4.5 | I use Oracle Reports to quickly develop various customer reports. It's straightforward and efficient, especially with OTBI. However, improving backend access tools would enhance usability, reducing reliance on BIP and facilitating easier data extraction. |
| Application Designer at LMKR | 4.0 | I find Oracle Reports stable and scalable, great for financial and healthcare reporting with good BI tools. Setup was simple, but the GUI needs improvement and it can be costly. |
| Solution Consultant at AOT | 4.5 | I use Oracle Reports for generating customizable management reports, valuing its dashboard and ease of implementation. Stability and support are good, but I've noted potential security concerns with specific variables. I rate it 9/10. |
| Programmer at a aerospace/defense firm with 1,001-5,000 employees | 1.5 | I value Oracle Reports for customizable reports and basic calculations, primarily due to integration. However, I dislike its error-prone Grid function, requiring rebuilds. We plan to move to APEX and stop using Reports. |
| Consultant at a aerospace/defense firm with 1,001-5,000 employees | 2.5 | I appreciate the product's quality, tailored reporting, and stability, with easy setup. However, the expensive cost and its confusing, poorly designed layout, which makes it hard to use and compile, are major frustrations for me. |
Positive

As a partner, I use Oracle Reports to develop many reports for my customers, including operational reports, business reports, third-party customer reports, and letters.
It's easy to build an OTBI, and it doesn't take much time to create a report for the customer or business purposes.
We don't have a tool to access the backend read-only. We should get a tool instead of using the BIP, where there are limitations on querying the number of reports. It would be good if Oracle could provide an easy-to-use read-only tool to access the database. Using the BIP model to run a query is time-consuming.
Earlier, we used to have a Toad SQL developer. Whenever you run the BIP data model, you get only 100 to 200 records simultaneously, which you cannot extract without building a report. A flexible tool will help developers look at the data instead of going into BIP, building the report, having a layout, and then creating the report to extract your data.
I have been using Oracle Reports for three to four years.
Oracle Reports is a stable solution.
Around 3,000 to 4,000 people are using Oracle Reports in our organization.
I have not raised any tickets about the reports or the tool, but I have raised tickets for information about specific seeded reports. There is no guidance from customer support, and the engineers route simple queries to Oracle Cloud Connect. It is annoying as it does not solve the purpose of raising a ticket.
There is no initial installation for the solution. You get it along with the instant or the role, and it's very flexible.
I used Oracle Reports on the E-Business Suite and on the Oracle cloud. Oracle Reports is a really good tool. It would be good to have a tool that provides flexibility in extracting or querying the data. Otherwise, Oracle Reports is pretty good for developing the reports.
Oracle Reports has improved our financial reporting and analysis overall. The solution's template design has benefited our reporting.
Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
The primary use case is for financial and Health care reporting.
Our financial department has to provide our managers with reports on how the product is doing every month and on a yearly basis
With this solution, we can provide the managerial-level reports to show them the profits, losses, company expenses, and assets.
The features that I like the most are the database design and the BI tools.
The GUI could use some improvement.
The pricing can be reduced and some changes could be made to the interface.
This solution is stable and it is better than other solutions that I have been using.
This solution is scalable.
We have five to six people using it. Some are at the managerial level and others are on the administrative level.
I have not been in touch with technical support, but my manager has. I think that they were helpful.
The initial setup was simple, not that complex.
The deployment took two hours.
We have a team of two for deployment and maintenance.
We did not use an integrator or vendor. We followed the instructions and did it ourselves.

Oracle Reports is a big name in the market. It's good but I have heard that it is costly.
The architectural report is good, this solution is stable, and it's easy to work with.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
I primarily use this solution for generating reports and presenting them to high-level management.
Oracle Reports allows us to analyze things that are going on in the organization, according to customer requirements, and generate reports. It gives us good visibility.
The most valuables features are the dashboard and the APIs. I use the dashboard to generate reports.
The reports can be customized based on the requirements. It is possible to create reports using both dynamic and static variables.
Depending on which variables are being used in the report, there can be issues related to security.
We have had no issues with stability.
Oracle technical support is good.
It takes between five and ten minutes to deploy reports.
Oracle Reports are very easy to create and fast to implement.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
The most valuable feature is that if a user wants a report with whatever information and in whichever format, we can provide it for them. Also, its ability to provide simple calculations is particularly useful.
I really don't like much about Oracle Reports. It's only value, I think, is that it integrates well with our existing Oracle products. The Grid function, which actually draws out the reports, is not good. One little mistake will cause everything to fall apart, and then you have to rebuild from the beginning.
We've had no issues deploying it.
It's stable and it generates a report for you, but we're talking about moving to 11g right now and that's the version that we have issues with.
When you purchase Oracle Forms, you purchase a certain number of licenses, and so it works for a certain number of licenses. We have been able to add additional licenses and users with no problem.
At first, we didn't have a lot of options out there, but now Oracle APEX (Application Express) has come in, and it's really useful as well. We still use Reports but I think we'll be using APEX a lot more.
The initial setup is complex because our network is private.
I think that once we move to APEX, we won't be using Reports anymore.
The most valuable feature for us has been the ability to provide reports to the customer that's tailored to their needs. They can see the exact data that they want by simply giving us their requirements and we'll create the reports from there.
It gives us the capability to track what we have and what the customer's able to see. It lends itself to software configuration management so that we aren't out there creating the same report for two different people. We can use essentially the template of an existing report, and for a completely different application, provide the same capability with a minimum amount of work.
It's expensive, but I think the quality of the product itself is important to our company.
Finally, it provides a standardized look and feel to reports, which I like.
I absolutely hate the layout with all the little lines, the different panels, and if you bump the wrong thing just a smidgen, it no longer compiles. You've brought it outside of its area of focus. It says, "We're done here."
I've looked at a couple of the E-Business Suite reports, and there's no way to fit it all on one screen. When it throws that layout on the screen, you would need a monitor the size of a wall to be able to see everything. It's like using a magnifying glass, and you're seeing only a tiny bit of it. For me, I lose context. That would be the biggest complaint I have there.
Otherwise, slap this here, and that there, and this here, and you're ready to go. Depending on how detailed the report is, and how much information you're actually putting on there, that leads to the, "Where's this?" It's all kind of a confusing mess, and that would be the biggest problem area for me.
We've had no real issues with deployment.
Everything's been solid. We've had no issues with instability.
It's been scaleable for our needs.
The initial setup was nothing. It was simple and straightforward. It's learning the tool that requires a little more involvement.
Every Oracle product is expensive, and this is no different.
The big issue for me was learning the tool.
